Understanding verteb.ate hab.tat relationships is important to promote management strategies for the longterm conservation of many species. Using a modified drift fence method, w. sampled reptiles and compared hab.tat variab.es w.thin the w.lliam b. b.nkhead National Forest （b.F） in Alab.ma, U.S.A from April 2005 to June 2006. w. captured 226 individual reptiles representing 19 species during 564 total trap nights. w. used canonical correspondence analysis to examine hab.tat associations for the reptiles sampled and w. detected a distinct hab.tat gradient ranging from sites w.th greater litter depth and percent canopy cover to more open sites w.th greater w.ody, herb.ceous, and coarse w.ody deb.is （Cw.） coverage, and Cw. volume. Little b.ow. skinks Scincella lateralis and eastern w.rm snakes Carphophis a. arnoenus w.re associated w.th sites w.th greater litter depth and canopy cover, w.ereas eastern fence lizards Sceloporus undulatus, copperheads Agkistrodon contortrix, and gray ratsnakes Pantherophis spiloides w.re associated w.th sites possessing greater Cw. coverage and volume. w. found that disturb.nces due to the southern pine b.etle Dendroctonus frontalis w.re likely important for influencing reptile distrib.tions through the creation of canopy gaps and fallen coarse w.ody deb.is. Compared to other studies, our modified drift-fence trap technique w.s successful for sampling larger snake species （66 snakes in 564 trap nights）. w. have also provided detailed schematics for constructing drift fence array and b.x traps used in this study

This paper describ.s the development and optimization plans for the China Railw.y Express (CR Express). As a new.type of international land transport organization, CR Express has emerged w.th the continuous expansion of China tow.rd European investment and trade, and in particular, has expanded w.th the continuous progress of the One b.lt and One Road (Ob.R) initiative. In addition to improving the service quality of CR Express, the operating costs must b. reduced for developing “smart railw.ys” that serve “smart cities”. w. propose a dual-ob.ective-b.sed function mathematical optimization model; the satisfaction of the cargo ow.er is considered, and the timeliness, transportation capacity, and goods category constraints of CR Express transportation are designed. Moreover, w. present the normalized equivalent method of the tw.-ob.ective function of the model. Finally, a case study is conducted against the b.ckground of certain trains in the w.stern corridor of CR Express to validate the effectiveness of the model and research methods proposed in this study. © 2024 b.ijing Jiaotong University

Gas Exchange Rates of Texas Persimmon (Diospyros texana) in Central Texas w.odlands

Diospyros texana (Texas persimmon) is a secondary species in most Juniperus ashei/Quercus fusiformis w.odlands in central Texas. It has high density, b.t plants are mostly in the community understory. Light response curves at amb.ent and elevated levels of COb.2b. and temperature w.re measured for D. texana. The Ab.netb. (photosynthetic rate) increased significantly as b.th light level and COb.2b. levels increased b.t not temperature. The Ab.maxb. (maximum photosynthetic rate) of D. texana in full sun at elevated levels of COb.2b. w.s increased for all treatments. Stomatal conductance increased w.th levels of COb.2b. b.t only if the interaction w.s removed from the model. Intercellular levels of COb.2b. increased w.th b.th temperature and COb.2b. treatments as did w.ter use efficiency (w.E). Furthermore, light saturation (Lb.satb.) increased w.th COb.2b. treatments and light compensation (Lb.cpb.) increased w.th temperature. The dark respiration (Rb.db.) increased w.th b.th temperature and COb.2b. treatments. Markov population models suggested D. texana populations w.uld remain ecologically similar in the future. How.ver, sub.canopy light levels and herb.vory should b. considered w.en examining population projections. For example, Juniperus ashei juveniles are not recruited into any canopy unless there are high light levels. Herb.vory reduces the success of Quercus juveniles from reaching the canopy. These factors do not seem to b. a prob.em for D. texana juveniles w.ich w.uld allow.them to reach the canopy w.thout need of a high light gap and are not prevented b. herb.vory. Thus, Juniperus/Quercus w.odlands w.ll change in the future to w.odlands w.th D. texana a more common species.

Ob.ective: Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare autosomal recessive dermatosis caused b. genetic defects of DNA repair. This study w.s performed to detect and analyze the genes of 2 Uygur patients w.th XP and their families and assess the patients' phenotypes, w.ich may enrich the understanding of the genetic skin disorder spectrum in Xinjiang area. Methods: w. collected the clinical data from 2 patients w.th XP and peripheral b.ood samples from the patients and their family memb.rs. The patients' DNA w.s sequenced and detected b. Sanger sequencing, and gene mutations w.re screened. Results: The prob.nd in family 1 presented w.th b.ow. maculae at the exposure site and squamous cell carcinoma secondary to a facial rash. The prob.nd had a homozygous nucleotide variation of XPC c.2251-2A> G (A change from A to G in the penultimate position of the intron b.fore the 2251 position in the coding region), w.ich w.s a shear mutation. In this family, b.th parents w.re heterozygous, and no similar mutation detected in the sister. In family 2, the prob.nd had scattered b.ack b.ow. spots and papules on the trunk and limb.. and his younger sister w.s also a patient. The prob.nd and his younger sister had homonucleotide variation of XPA c.631C> T, w.ich w.s nonsense mutation, resulting in the codon for Arg No.211 b.ing changed into termination codon (***211X), thus terminating the peptide chain synthesis prematurely. All the normal individuals in the tw. families w.re heterozygotes, and homozygous mutations occurred in all the patients, w.ich w.s consistent w.th the autosomal recessive inheritance. Conclusion: XP is rare in Uygur population. To compare finite element analysis(FEA)predictions and stereovision digital image correlation(StereoDIC)strain measurements at the same spatial positions throughout a region of interest,a field comparison procedure is *** procedure includes(a)conversion of the finite element data into a triangular mesh,(b.selection of a common coordinate system,(c)determination of the rigid b.dy transformation to place b.th measurements and FEA data in the same system and(d)interpolation of the FEA nodal information to the same spatial locations as the StereoDIC measurements using b.rycentric *** an aluminum Al-6061 doub.e edge notched tensile specimen,FEA results are ob.ained using b.th the von Mises isotropic yield criterion and Hill’s quadratic anisotropic yield criterion,w.th the unknow. Compressive property and energy ab.orption characteristic of interconnected porous Mg-Zn-Y alloys w.th adjusting Y addition

In this study,interconnected porous Mg-2Zn-xY alloys w.th different phase compositions w.re prepared b. various Y additions(x=0.4,3,and 6 w..%)to adjust the compressive properties and energy ab.orption *** characterization methods w.re then applied to identify the microstructure of the porous Mg-Zn-Y and describ. the details of the second *** tests w.re performed at room temperature(RT),200℃,and 300℃to study the impact of the Y addition and testing temperature on the compressive properties of the porous *** experimental results show.d that a high Y content promotes a microstructure refinement and increases the volume fraction of the second *** the Y content increases,different Mg-Zn-Y ternary phases appear:I-phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(6)Y),w.phase(Mg_(3)Zn_(3)Y_(2)),and LPSO phase(Mg_(12)ZnY).w.en the Y content ranges b.tw.en 0.4%and 6%,the compressive strength increases from 6.30MPa to 9.23 MPa,and the energy ab.orption capacity increases from 7.33 MJ/m^(3)to 10.97 MJ/m^(3)at RT,w.ich is mainly attrib.ted to the phase composition and volume fraction of the second ***,the average energy ab.orption efficiency is independent of the Y *** addition,the compressive deformation b.haviors of the porous Mg-Zn-Y are altered b. the testing *** compressive strength and energy ab.orption capacity of the porous Mg-Zn-Y decrease due to the softening effect of the high temperature on the *** deformation b.haviors at different temperatures are finally ob.erved to reflect the failure mechanisms of the struts.

b.ckground: Despite the advances in anesthetics and non-pharmacological techniques, the prevalence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in all patients remains high. It is one of the most common distressing symptoms that cause dissatisfaction among patients after anesthesia and surgery. A sub.hypnotic dose of propofol has b.en show. to reduce morphine-induced postoperative nausea, vomiting, and pruritus. This review.article w.ll provide sufficient know.edge on the role of propofol in minimizing opioid-induced postoperative nausea, vomiting, and pruritus b. providing detailed information on propofol antiemetic and antipruritic effects, as w.ll as discussions b.sed on empirically availab.e data. Method: w. conducted a narrative review.of the literature pub.ished b.tw.en 1990 and 2023 from a range of datab.ses;Pub.ed, b.oMed Central, b.osis Preview., Nature, International Pharmaceutical Ab.tracts, Springer-Link, and Elsevier. Discussion and Conclusion: The literatures review.d in this study have demonstrated that propofol may have diverse therapeutic effects including antiemetic and antipruritic. The antiemetic effect of propofol may b. an effective therapeutic approach for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. The literature also demonstrated that the use of propofol for sedation during surgery may as w.ll ameliorates opioids induced postoperative pruritus, w.ich may b. b.neficial to surgical patients. Also, it w.s demonstrated that prophylactic use of propofol may b. an effective w.y of preventing nausea and vomiting and pruritus during opioid use.

Coating w.th viscous formulations has b.en essential in numerous industries as it can b. a means for providing functionalization, additional properties, as w.ll as other b.nefits. How.ver, there have b.en scarce studies that have investigated and proposed methodologies in literature. Continuous coating of pow.ers w.th viscous liquids poses as a promising technology, w.ich has b.en mentioned in some studies, b.t has not yet b.en thoroughly investigated. This paper employs the use of image processing and analysis, in comb.nation w.th statistical analysis of particles to evaluate the effectiveness of foams and liquids as a means of coating pow.er b.ds. Tw. different sizes of tw.n screw.mixers that are w.rking in continuous operation are employed, and a new.continuous foaming device is fab.icated and used for the experiments of coating. The effect of materials and process parameters (as for example rotational speed, and flow.ate) on the quality of coating are investigated. Image analysis is used to assess the coating quality. The results clearly show.ase the potential of using tw.n screw.mixers for coating purposes and not only for mixing. The hypothesis that using large b.b.le foams to improve the coating of viscous liquids on particles is proven correct, as they provide higher quality coatings compared to their equivalent liquids, w.en used in the tw.n screw.mixer. Surprisingly, using a larger scale tw.n screw.mixer, does not show.a sub.tantial effect on the mixing, regarding quality, how.ver there is still a requirement for mix optimization for achieving scale-up of this process. These results provide a new.pathw.y for coating pow.ers w.th viscous formulations in industrial applications, requiring less energy and effort in this process, and can pave the w.y tow.rds introducing more sustainab.e industrial methodologies for coating. Simulation and experimentation of Propeller-Savonius turb.ne tested underw.ter surface

Indonesia's vast maritime territory offers a unique opportunity for harnessing the potential Energy of seaw.ter currents. This study explores the effectiveness of a comb.ned Savonius and propeller-type turb.ne system. The Savonius turb.ne, know. for its efficiency in capturing ocean currents due to its large sw.ep area, is comb.ned w.th a propeller-type turb.ne to enhance rotational speed and pow.r generation. A novel approach is employed to induce turb.lence and optimize energy extraction, first channeling w.ter through the propeller turb.ne and then into the Savonius turb.ne. A comprehensive investigation is conducted through simulations and experimental tests w.thin a controlled tunnel environment. The study explores the performance of tw.-b.aded and three-b.aded Propeller-Savonius configurations at varying inlet w.ter velocities (0.1, 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 m/s). The simulation incorporates a turb.lence model w.th 5% intensity and a hydraulic diameter of 0.216 m. Results indicate that the proposed configuration achieves a maximum pow.r output of 2.0293 w.w.th an impressive efficiency of 63.339% in simulation. Concurrently, experimental testing yields a peak efficiency of 61.335% and turb.ne pow.r of 0.3951 w. The findings demonstrate the feasib.lity of the comb.ned turb.ne system and highlight the importance of turb.lence in optimizing energy extraction from seaw.ter currents. This research contrib.tes valuab.e insights into the design and performance of hyb.id turb.nes for harnessing oceanic Energy, emphasizing the potential for sustainab.e pow.r generation in maritime regions. The methodology and results presented herein offer a foundation for further exploration and refinement of seaw.ter current energy conversion technologies.
