The whitefly Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius） is one of the most important pests causing economic losses in a variety of cropping systems around the world. This species was recently found in a coastal region of colombia and has now spread inland. To investigate this invasive process, the genetic structure of B. tabaci was examined in 8 sampling locations from 2 infested regions （coastal, inland） using 9 microsatellite markers and the mitochondrial cOI gene. The mitochondrial analysis indicated that only the invasive species of the B. tabaci complex Middle East-Asia Minor 1 （MEAM 1 known previously as biotype B） was present. The microsatellite data pointed to genetic differences among the regions and no isolation by distance within regions. The coastal region in the caribbean appears to have been the initial point of invasion, while the inland region in the Southwest showed genetic variation among populations most likely reflecting founder events and ongoing changes associated with climatic and topographical heterogeneity. These findings have implications for tracking and managing B. tabaci.

The problem of packing circles into a domain of prescribed topology is considered. The circles need not have equal radii. The collins-Stephenson algorithm computes such a circle packing. This algorithm is parMlelized in two different ways and its performance is reported for a triangular, planar domain test case. The implementation uses the highly parallel graphics processing unit （GPU） on commodity hardware. The speedups so achieved are discussed based on a number of experiments.

Granular porous sorbents were normally used for heavy metals removal from *** search for the new commercial sorbent and treatment strategy,an organic acrylic amine fiber(AAF)and phosphorus loading inorganic-organic AAF(P-AAF)were prepared and used for lead(Pb)removal from water.A new strategy of inorganic-organic coupling technology was proposed for Pb removal,based on the hypothesis of surface-induced precipitation *** AAF showed a Pb adsorption capacity of 417 mg/g from the Langmuir fitting,while the column filtration technology was further applied to measure the adsorption edge and *** of different initial Pb concentrations,hydraulic retention time,and co-existing P were considered in the filtration *** presence of 0.8 mg/L P in water significantly improved the Pb breakthrough point from 15,000 to 41,000 bed volumes of water spiked with 85μg/L Pb,while the P-AAF fixed bed showed better removal of Pb than AAF SEM/EDX and XRD spectra were employed for determining the surface functional groups and the formation of surface-induced precipitation of pyromorphite(Pb_5(PO_4)_3 OH)on *** study verified the application of AAF sorbent for Pb removal and the enhanced effect of coating P on AAF,thus improved our fundamental understanding and application of the surface chemistry process of Pb with P.

Diversity and biogeography of a species-rich ant fauna of the Australian seasonal tropics

Although ants are an ecologically dominant and extensively studied faunal group throughout the tropics, there is a poor understanding of tropical ant diversity and distribution at large spatial scales. Here we use a collection developed from 3 decades of ant surveys to present the first analysis of ant diversity and biogeography of a large tropical region. Our objective was to document the species richness, composition, and biogeographic distributions of the ant fauna of the 400 000 km^2 ＂Top End＂ of Australia＇s Northern Territory. The known Top End ant fauna comprises 901 native species from 59 genera. The richest genera are Pheidole （90 species）, Melophorus （83）, Monomorium （83）, camponotus （71）, Meranoplus （63）, Polyrhachis （57）, Rhytidoponera （50）, Tetramorium （43）, cerapachys （32）, and Iridomyrmex （31）. The fauna is the center of diverse radiations within species-groups of genera such as Meranoplus, Rhytidoponera, and Leptogenys. It also includes IndoMalayan species that have likely bypassed the normal dispersal route into Australia through cape York Peninsula in North Queensland. Faunistic similarity with other regions of far northern Australia is associated more with rainfall than with geographic proximity. Most （60%） of Top End ant species have not been recorded elsewhere, and, despite uncertainties relating to species delimitation and sampling intensity, this appears to be a credible estimate of the level of endemism. Such exceptionally high endemism can be attributed to the Top End＇s geographic isolation from other regions of northern Australia with comparably high rainfall.

Modern agriculture heavily depends on energy consumption, especially fossil energy, but intensive energy input increases the production cost for producers and results in environmental *** agricultural production is considered a more sustainable system, but there is lack of scientific research on the energy consumption between organic and conventional systems in *** analysis and comparison of energy use between the two systems would help decision-makers to establish economic, effective and efficient agricultural ***, the objectives of the present study are to analyze energy inputs, outputs, energy efficiency, and economic benefits between organic and conventional soybean（Glycine max（L.） Merrill） production.A total of 24 organic farmers and 24 conventional farmers in Jilin Province, china, were chosen for investigation in 2010 production *** energy input was 71.55 GJ ha–1 and total energy output was 96.18 GJ ha–1 in the organic system, resulting in an energy efficiency（output/input） of *** energy input was 9.37 GJ ha–1 and total energy output was 113.4 GJ ha–1 in the conventional system, resulting in the energy efficiency of *** huge discrepancy in energy inputs and respective efficiencies lies in the several times higher nutrient inputs in the organic compared to the conventional production ***, the production costs ha–1 were 33% higher, and the net income ha–1 25% lower in the organic compared to the conventional soybean production *** is recommended to improve fertilizer management in organic production to improve its energetic and economic performance.
