Single zircon lAM-ICPMS U-Pb dating indi-cates that the Guidong granitic complex is a multistage ba-tholith formed during Indosinian-Yanshanian time. The luxi body (239 ± 5 Ma) and the Xiazhuang body (235.8 ± 7.6 Ma) intruded during Indosinian time, whereas the Aizi body (160.1 ± 6.1 Ma) and the Siqian body (151 ± 11 Ma) formed during Yanshanian time. Inherited zircons (1275—2137 Ma) in the Xiazhuang body imply that at least part of the source rocks of the Guidong complex are from the Proterozoic basement of southeast China. Detailed single zirconlAM-ICPMS U-Pb dating results provide important evi-dence for understanding the evolution, tectonic setting andmineralisation of the complex.

Ca is a minor component of olivine (oliv). Its concentration measured by electron microprobe (EMP) is about 0.1—0.5%, which is close to the minimum detection limit. The genesis of intermediate-silicic intrusive rocks and their enclaves in Tongling are closely related to Fe, Cu mineralization, which may provide petrologic informa- tion on lithospheric dynamics in this region. Tongguanshan quartz diorite and its enclaves, representatives of the Meso- zoic intermediate-silicic intrusive rocks in the Tongling area, were studied using approaches of petrography, electron microprobe mineral chemistry and the lA-ICPMS zircon U-Pb dating. The chemical compositions of pyroxene and amphibole in pyroxene-amphibole cumulate, quartz-diorite host rock from Tongguanshan show correlative variations. The Al contents of the minerals in pyroxene-amphibole cu- mulate are higher than those in the host rocks, indicating that the cumulate crystals were crystallized before the em- placement of host magma. The consistent mineral chemical compositions between the Tongguanshan quartz diorite and the microgranular diorite enclave indicate that the enclave and host rock were crystallized under similar conditions and therefore are closely genetically related. The lA-ICPMS zircon U-Pb dating suggests that the crystallization age of Tongguanshan quartz diorite is 137.5±1.1 Ma, consistent with the previous dates by different methods. However, the present U-Pb dating also revealed the presence of late- Archean relict cores, demonstrating that older lower crustal materials were involved in the generation of Mesozoic mag- matic rocks in this area. Furthermore, the dating results show that the crystallization age of the microgranular diorite enclave is 137.5 ±2.4 Ma, the same as the crystallization age of the host magma. By integrating the previous Sr-Nd-Pb isotope data, it is also discussed the petrogenesis of quartz diorite and its enclaves in Tongguanshan.

Morphological and chemical studies on zircon grains from gabbro and granite of the Pingtan magmatic complex, Fujian Province, eastern China, show that there are three stages of zircon growth. The early stage of zircon growth is characterized by colorlessness, high transparence and birefringence, low and dispersive Ipr and Ipy, weak and homogeneous BSE brightness, lower Hf content and depletion of U, Th and Y; the middle stage is characterized by abruptly increasing lpy, progressively strong and sectoral-zoning BSE brightness, higher Hf content and enrichment of U, Th and Y with Th/U 〉 1; the late stage of growth is characterized by brownish color, poor transparence, low birefringence, highest Ipr and Ipy, middle and oscillatorily-zoning BSE brightness, highest contents of Hf, U and Y with Th/U 〈 1. The stages are considered to be formed in a deep magma chamber, ascent passage and emplacement site, respectively. Due to the more or less long residual time of the magma chamber, the difference in age between the early and late stages of zircon might be great enough to be distinguished, which can be attributed to tectonic constraint for the magnlatism.

Zircon U-Pb dating and lu-Hf isotope study of intermediate-mafic sub-volcanic and intrusive rocks in the lishui Basin in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River

Eight Mesozoic sub-volcanic and intrusive rocks in the lishui Basin have been selected for zircon U-Pb dating and lu-Hf isotopic analysis. The laohutou, Datongshan,Daweizhuang, Yeshanao, Yanwaqiao, Xibeishan, Changshantou and Jianshan porphyrites yield concordant early Cretaceous ages of 130.5 ± 1.6 Ma, 136.0 ± 3.4 Ma, 132.7 ±2.7 Ma, 127.0 ± 1.9 Ma, 129.4 ± 1.7 Ma, 133.2 ± 2.1 Ma,131.1 ± 2.3 Ma and 127.4 ± 1.8 Ma, respectively. Zircon eHf(t) values for these rocks range from-3.54 to-9.11, mostly between-3.54 and-5.93, suggesting sources similar to those for coeval igneous rocks in other volcanic basins along the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. Considering the geochemical characteristics of coeval magmatic rocks in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River and its adjacent areas, this paper proposes a model of slab rollback to explain the Mesozoic magmatism in the east-central part of China continent. In the middle-late Jurassic to early Cretaceous(170–135 Ma), the Pacific plate started to subduct beneath the Eurasian continent, producing a compressive tectonic setting,and magmatism progressed from coast to the inland. The magmas of this period were derived mostly from partial melting of ancient crust. After *135 Ma, the subduction weakened, and the rollback of the subducted Pacific plate produced an extensional environment. This led to the formation of volcanic basins, the partial melting of enriched mantle sources and less ancient crust, and the intrusion of voluminous intermediate-mafic igneous rocks.

Among the various xenoliths entrained by the Cenozoic Hannuoba basalts, peridotite is the most abundant one. The trace elements of the diopsides from the peridotite xenoliths were analysed by lA-ICP-MS. The overall depletion and some heterogeneity of the continental mantle beneath northern North China Craton were indicated by the characteristics of the trace elements. The ∑REE amount in diopside correlates with the Cr/(Cr+Al) ratio of diopside which is indicative of xenolith’s partial melting degree. As the peridotite hosts and pyroxenite veins show similar REE distribution patterns, the composite xenoliths are probably formed by mantle deformation, rather than by the late metasomatism of mantle fluids/melts.

Grenvillian orogeny in the Southern Cathaysia Block:Constraints from U-Pb ages and lu-Hf isotopes in zircon from metamorphic basement

Metamorphic basement rocks in the Cathaysia Block are composed mainly of meta-sediments with different ages. New zircon U-Pb geochronological results from the meta-sedimentary rocks exposed in the Zengcheng and Hezi areas, southern Cathaysia Block, show that they consist dominantly of early Neoproterozoic (1.0―0.9 Ga) materials with minor Paleo- to Mesoproterozoic and late Neoproterozoic (0.8―0.6 Ga) components, suggesting that the detritus mostly come from a Grenvillian orogen. The youngest detrital zircon ages place a constraint on the deposition time of these sediments in late Neoproterozoic. Zircon Hf isotopic compositions indicate that the Grenvillian zircons were derived from the reworking of Mesoproterozoic arc magmatic rocks and Paleoproterozoic continental crust, implying an arc-continent collisional setting. Single-peak age spectra and the presence of abundant euhedral Grenvillian zircons suggest that the sedimentary provenance is not far away from the sample location. Thus, the Grenvillian orogen probably preexisted along the southern margin of the Cathaysia Block, or very close to the south. Similarity in the ages of Grenvillian orogeny and the influence of the assembly of Gondwana in South China with India and East Antarctic are discussed, with suggestion that South China was more likely linked with the India-East Antarctica continents in Early Neoproterozoic rather than between western laurentia and eastern Australia.
