Specific structural features of LnZrOx(Ln:La, Sm) mixed oxides prepared by different methods

LnZrOx(Ln: La, Sm) mixed oxides of Ln: Zr = 1 were prepared by different methods(complex polymerized method, sorption of cations on starch from aqueous salt solution and conventional co-precipitation with additional redispersion of precipitate by ultra sound) and calcined at 700–1300 °C. Their specific structural features and changes were studied and discussed. Various characterization methods were used such as X-ray diffraction,Electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared and Raman spectroscopy, UV–Vis spectroscopy, X-Ray absorption fine structure and X-ray photoelectron *** formation of pyrochlore structure occurred at 1100–1300 °C from fluorite-like pseudocubic phase ZrO2regardless the method of preparation. This phase had a block-like structure consisting of ZrO2nanocrystals stabilized by Ln cations and residual anions such as hydroxyls and carbonates. The desorption of such anions with heating already started at 900 °C and lead to local changes of Zr cations coordination to octahedral and to the formation of pyrochlore nanodomains inclusions within fluorite-like phase. The increased cation mobility and further elimination of anions caused by further heating was accompanied by the formation of bulk pyrochlore phase at 1100–1300 °C. Even after calcination at 1300 °C the local microheterogeneity as well as defects were identified at domains boundaries or sintered microstructure. These specific features of the formed pyrochlores depend on the method of preparation.

The Exolife： Gas Dust Streams and Seeds

The hypothesis that bacteria and protozoa microorganisms are able to travel from one planet to another and become of exolife was not taken seriously by the scientific community for a long time. However at the end of the 20th century the situation changed dramatically. Firstly, in 1990, meteorites consisting of Martian rocks were found. Secondly, it became clear that many microorganisms especially bacteria spores have an uncanny ability to endure the rugged environment of the outer space for a long time and then re-activate in a more favorable environment. If we compare these findings, the idea of interplanetary transmigration of the simplest forms of life on meteoroids ceases to look so illusory. The final dot in this issue was made by the works of academician Rozanov, and later Hoover （Professor Richard B. Hoover） through the discovery of fossilized microbes inside of a meteorite massif, that is to say, seeds of life. However, to tie only the simplest forms of life to meteorites or comets is to introduce strong constraints on the likelihood of delivery of seeds （spores of life） to Earth for many obvious reasons. Besides, exobiology does not negate the problem of origin of life, and transfers it into the era of the young universe. Therefore, it is necessary to consider in detail the essence of seeds of life or cosmic particles of dust and gas-dust streams as their carriers, their penetration path to Earth and forms of their existence.

BACKGROUND Given its size and location,the liver is the third most injured organ by abdominal *** to recent advances,it is unanimously accepted that the nonoperative management is the current mainstay of treatment for hemodynamically stable ***,those patients with hemodynamic instability that generally present with severe liver trauma associated with major vascular lesions will require surgical ***,an associated injury of the main bile ducts makes surgery compulsory even in the case of hemodynamic stability,thereby imposing therapeutic challenges in the tertiary referral hepato-biliopancreatic centers’*** SUMMARY We present the case of a 38-year-old male patient with The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma grade V liver injury and an associated right branch of portal vein and common bile duct avulsion,due to a crush *** patient was referred to the nearest emergency hospital and because of the hemorrhagic shock,damage control surgery was performed by means of ligation of the right portal vein branch and right hepatic artery,and hemostatic ***,the patient was referred immediately to our tertiary hepato-bilio-pancreatic *** performed depacking,a right hepatectomy and Roux-en-Y *** the 9th postoperative day,the patient developed a high output anastomotic bile leak that required a redo of the *** postoperative period was marked by a surgical incision site of incomplete evisceration that was managed non-operatively by negative wound *** follow-up was optimal,with no complications at 55 *** In conclusion,the current case clearly supports that a favorable outcome in severe liver trauma with associated vascular and biliary injuries is achieved thru proper therapeutic management,conducted in a tertiary referral hepato-bilio-pancreatic center,where a stepwise and complex surgical approach is mandatory.

On Two-Dimensional Above-Barrier Penetration and Sub-Barrier Tunneling for Non-Relativistic Particles and Photons

We study the two-dimensional above-barrier penetration and the sub-barrier tunneling of non-relativistic particles and photons, described in the quasi-monochromatic approximation by simple plane waves. Our scheme represents the motion from the left free-motion zero-potential region to the right zero-potential region through the intermediate region with a one-dimensional rectangular potential barrier along the axis, normal to the both parallel interfaces between all three regions, and with the zero potential along the axis, parallel to the those interfaces. We have firstly obtained the analytical expressions for the infinite series of multiple internal and external reflections and also of multiple transmitted waves of particles and photons, with equal shifts between them along the interfaces for the above-barrier penetration and with various shifts between them in the case of the sub-barrier tunneling. Finally the Hartman and Fletcher effect for any transmitted wave is established.

Biochemical and Morphological Characteristics of Acid-Resistant Regenerants of Sugar Beet （Beta vulgaris L.）

The aim of the paper was to study the metabolite profile and morphological characteristics of sugar beet regenerants exposed to aluminium ions （Al^3＋）. The regenerants were selected basing on selective media with sublethal acidity （pH 3.5）. The thrice-repeated passaging of sugar beet microclones of two genotypes in low pH medium causes certain alterations in the cellular metabolism. The paper demonstrated that peroxidase （POD） and isocitrate lyase （ICL） activity increased in both varieties. At the same time, NADH-dehydrogenase （NADH-DH） activity decreased in hybrid plants. Glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase （gl-6-ph-dh） activity increased in mail sterile （MS） hybrid plants, but reduced in Ramonskaya fertile （RF） hybrid plants. Adaptation to reduced pH was accompanied by alterations in the isozyme spectra of POD, 1- and 2-esterase, cytochrome c oxidase and malic enzyme （ME）. The adaptation process of sugar beet regenerants was also accompanied by an increase in protein synthesis. The level of metabolic response to stress very much depended on the initial genotype of the hybrid. In this experiment, aluminium resistant plants were growing rapidly in selective media. They developed leaves with healthy petioles and blades and had strong root systems.

Ultrafast carrier dynamics and nonlinear optical response of InAsP nanowires

Indium arsenide phosphide(In As P)nanowires(NWs),a member of theⅢ–Ⅴsemiconductor family,have been used in various photonic and optoelectronic applications thanks to their unique electrical and optical properties such as high carrier mobility and adjustable band *** this work,we synthesize In As P NWs and further explore their nonlinear optical *** ultrafast carrier dynamics and nonlinear optical response are thoroughly studied based on the nondegenerate pump probe and Z-scan experimental *** different characteristic carrier lifetimes(~2 and~15 ps)from In As P NWs are observed during the excited-carrier relaxation *** on the physical model analysis,the relaxation process can be ascribed to the carrier cooling process via carrier-phonon scattering and Auger *** addition,based on the measured excited-carrier lifetime and Pauli-blocking principle,we discover that In As P NWs show strong saturable absorption properties at the wavelengths of 532 and 1064 ***,we demonstrate for the first time a femtosecond(~426 fs)solid-state laser based on an In As P NWs saturable absorber at 1.04μ*** believe that our work provides a better understanding of the In As P NWs optical properties and will further advance their photonic applications in the near-infrared range.
