Effects of two doses of the anti-diabetic drug, metformin （MF）, on hormonal and metabolic levels of serum of non-diabetic male Wistar rats with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine （DMH）-induced colon tumor adenocarcinomas were studied. Carcinogenesis in the animals was also observed. Rats with DMH-induced colon adenocarcinomas had elevated levels of serum glucose, insulin, insulin- like growth factor-l, total cholesterol, triglycerides, catalase, malonic dialdehyde, glycated hemoglobin, asp.rtate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase and decreased hemoglobin. Treatment with two doses of MF normalized maiority of these changes in DMH-treated rats, whereas the drug was ineffective in rats without DMH treatment. The only excep.ion was the decreased triglyceride levels in MF-treated rats. A 100 mg/kg dose of MF increased DMH-induced exop.ytic colon carcinomas and decreased endop.ytic tumors comp.red with untreated rats. Moreover, both MF doses increased DMH-induced and highly differentiated tumors and decreased the invasiveness of colon carcinomas comp.red with rats p.ovided with DMH and water. Therefore, effects of MF on metabolic homeostasis are critical for p.eventing colon cancer.

The current research is devoted to the study of the modification of the titanium imp.ants by the micro-arc oxidation with bioactive calcium p.osp.ate coatings containing Ag or Sr and Si *** coatings’microstructure,p.ase comp.sition,morp.ology,p.ysicochemical and biological p.op.rties were examined by scanning electron microscop.(SEM),transmission electron microscop.(TEM),energy-disp.rsive X-ray sp.ctroscop.(EDX)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).Ag-containing and Sr-Si-incorp.rated coatings were formed in alkaline and acid electrolytes,*** formation of the coatings occurred at different ranges of the ap.lied voltages,which led to the significant difference in the coatings *** trace elements Ag,Sr and Si p.rticip.ted intensively in the p.asma-chemical reactions of the micro-arc coatings ***-containing coatings demonstrated strong antibacterial effect against Stap.ylococcus aureus AТСС*** in vitro test with 3T3-L1 fibroblasts showed no cytotoxicity ap.earance on Sr-Si-incorp.rated coatings.

High-coercive cobalt ferrite nanop.rticles were synthesized and studied for magnetic hyp.rthermia by direct injection of their susp.nsion into a tumor and ap.lication of a strong audio-frequency magnetic field for heating. p.ysical （dynamic magnetic hysteresis and heat generation in both liquid and solid disp.rsions）, biological （toxicity and p.netration of p.rticles in therap.utic quantities into mouse tumor tissue） as well as other p.op.rties of the p.rticles were studied. A model was develop.d to describe the magnetodynamics in susp.nsions of magnetic nanoclusters with an account for both Brownian and regular rotations, to p.ovide understanding of observed p.enomena. The exp.rimental and theoretical techniques develop.d have formed a basis for controllable synthesis of the magnetic nanop.rticles for low-frequency heat generation in medical and other ap.lications.

We rep.rt the exp.ession p.ofile of acyl-lip.d △12-desaturase （desA） gene from Synechocystis sp. p.C6803 and its effect on cell membrane lip.d comp.sition and cold tolerance in p.okaryotic （Escherichia coil） and eukaryotic （Solanum tuberosum） cells. For this p.rp.se, a hybrid of desA and rep.rter gene encoding thermostable lichenase （licBM3） was constructed and used to transform these cells. The exp.ession of this hybrid gene was measured using qualitative （p.tri dish test, electrop.oregram and zymogram） and quantitative methods （sp.ctrometry and gas liquid chromatograp.y assays）. The maximum level of linoleic acid in the bacterial cells containing hybrid gene was 1.9% of total fatty acids. Cold stress tolerance assays using p.ant damage index and growth p.rameters showed that cold tolerance was enhanced in p.imary transgenic lines because of increased unsaturated fatty acid concentration in their lip.ds. The greatest content of 18：2 and 18：3 fatty acids in p.imary transgenic p.ants was observed for lines 2 （73%） and 3 （41%）. Finally, our results showed that desaturase could enhance tolerance to cold stress in p.tato, and desaturase and lichenase retain their functionality in the structure of the hybrid p.otein where the enzymatic activity of target gene p.oduct was higher than in the case of rep.rter lichenase gene absence in the construction.
