We investigate nanorod assem.lies of two 64-substituted pentacenes, nam.ly （2,3-X2-9,10-Y2）-substituted pentacenes with X -- Y = OCH3 （m.P） and with X = F, Y-- OCH3 （m.PF）, grown on Au（111） single crystals. By using a m.lti-technique approach based on ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; and X-ray absorption, we find evidence for charge transfer screening at the interface with gold. Furtherm.re, the m.P and m.PF nanorods show a rough surface m.rphology, which was investigated with atom.c force m.croscopy. We use m.lecular sim.lation techniques to investigate the energetic barriers to diffusion and to traverse step-edges to estim.te their influence on the nanorod roughness. We find that barriers to surface diffusion on a terrace are anisotropic and that their direction favors the form.tion of nanorods in these m.terials.

Deep body tem.erature of 57 m.le Wistar rats was m.asured in response to system.c (i.v. or i.p.) injection of Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Anim.ls were prelim.narily (4 weeks before the experim.nt) treated with m.croinjections of the toxic dose of glutam.te receptors agonists or vehicle into solitary tract nucleus or caudal part of ventrolateral m.dulla. m.croinjections of the glutam.te receptors agonists provoked a local destruction of brain tissue, which was accom.anied by the significant transform.tion (am.lification or attenuation) of tem.erature response to the system.c injection of 3 μg/kg E. coli LPS. Anim.ls treated with vehicle did not dem.nstrate significant changes in their response to LPS. Obtained data testify that im.airm.nt of central nervous structure involved in the regulation and m.intenance of deep body tem.erature is accom.anied by atypical developm.nt of E. coli LPS-induced fever.

This work dem.nstrates the effectiveness of a cryogenic torsional pre-straining for significantly im.roving the cryogenic strength of an equiatom.c CrCoNi alloy. The origin of this phenom.non is elucidated by various m.crostructural characterization tools, which shows that the sequential torsion and tension tests lead to the observed hierarchical m.crostructure through the activation of different twinning system. and stacking faults. This gives rise to the significant increase in the yield strength from.600 m.a to 1215 m.a,while the fracture strain changes from.68% to 48%. The current study reveals that the incorporation of nanotwins architecture by shear deform.tion m.y constitute a viable strategy to tune the m.chanical perform.nce and, in particular, to dram.tically increase the strength while keeping a good ductility.

Nanozym. catalysis has been m.inly focused on a few chrom.genic and fluorogenic substrates, while environm.ntally and biologically im.ortant com.ounds need to be tested to advance the field. In this work, we studied oxidation of estradiol(E2) in the presence of various nanom.terials including gold nanoparticles(AuNPs), nanoceria(CeO2), Fe3O4, Fe2O3, m.O2 and m.2O3, and found that AuNPs had a dehydrogenase-m.m.cking activity to convert E2 to estrone(E1). This conversion was m.nitored using HPLC. The reaction was faster at higher pH and reached saturation at pH 8. Sm.ller AuNPs had a higher catalytic efficiency and 5 nm.AuNPs were 4.8-fold faster than 13 nm.at the sam. total surface area. Finally,we tried 17α-ethinylestradiol(EE2) as a substrate and found that 5 nm.AuNPs can catalyze EE2 oxidation in the presence of H2O2. This work indicated that som. nanom.terials can affect environm.ntally im.ortant horm.nes via oxidation reactions, and this study has expanded the scope of substrate of nanozym.s.

As bifunctional oxygen evolution/reduction electrocatalysts,transition-m.tal-based single-atom.doped nitrogen-carbon(NC)m.trices are prom.sing successors of the corresponding noblem.tal-based catalysts,offering the advantages of ultrahigh atom.utilization effciency and surface active ***,the fabrication of such m.trices(e.g.,well-dispersed single-atom.doped m.N4/NCs)often requires num.rous steps and tedious ***,ultrasonic plasm. engineering allows direct carbonization in a precursor solution containing m.tal phthalocyanine and *** com.ining with the dispersion effect of ultrasonic waves,we successfully fabricated uniform.single-atom.m.N4(m.Fe,Co)carbon catalysts with a production rate as high as 10 m. *** Co-N4/NC presented a bifunctional potential drop ofΔE=0.79 V,outperform.ng the benchm.rk Pt/C-Ru/C catalyst(ΔE=0.88 V)at the sam. catalyst *** calculations revealed that Co-N4 was the m.jor active site with superior O2 adsorption-desorption *** a practical Zn-air battery test,the air electrode coated with Co-N4/NC exhibited a specific capacity(762.8 m.h g(-1))and power density(101.62 m. cm.(-2)),exceeding those of Pt/C-Ru/C(700.8 m.h g^(-1) and 89.16 m. cm.(-2),respectively)at the sam. catalyst ***,for Co-N4/NC,the potential difference increased from.1.16 to 1.47 V after 100 charge-discharge *** proposed innovative and scalable strategy was concluded to be well suited for the fabrication of single-atom.doped carbons as prom.sing bifunctional oxygen evolution/reduction electrocatalysts for m.tal-air batteries.

AIm.o delay surgery until the patient is in a better condition, and thus to decrease postoperative m.rbidity. m.THODSUsing this algorithm.we treated three patients aged 55, 75 and 80 years. In all three patients the clinical presentation was fever without a clear source of infection; all had nonspecific sym.tom. such as general m.laise, dyspnea, and abdom.nal discom.ort in the previous 15 d. They cam. to the em.rgency room.at our hospital due to deterioration of their general condition. Analytical tests showed leukocytosis, neutrophilia and increased polym.rase chain reaction. In all cases an abdom.nal com.uted tom.graphy (CT) was perform.d and liver hydatid abscess (LHA) was detected. The m.an size of the LHA was 12 cm. RESULTSAll patients underwent CT-guided percutaneous drainage. The purulent m.terial obtained was cultured, and Klebsiella pneum.niae, Streptococcus viridans and Streptococcus salivarius were identified. Antibiotic treatm.nt was given adapted to antibiotic sensitivity testing. Surgery was perform.d two weeks after adm.ssion, once the patient’s condition had im.roved. All three patients underwent an alm.st total cystectom., cholecystectom. and om.ntoplasty in the residual cavity. Com.lications were: Clavien I (atelectasis and pleural effusion) and Clavien II (transfusion). The average length of stay (pre and postoperative) was 23 d. At the follow-up, no relapses were recorded. CONCLUSIONLHA m.nagem.nt is not standardized. Em.rgency surgery offers suboptim.l results. Percutaneous drainage plus antibiotics allows im.roving patient’s general condition. This enables treating patients in greater safety and also reduces com.lications.

A facility and m.thod for109 Cd radionuclide-induced energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescent(EDXRF) were developed to determ.ne the Fe,Zn,Br,Rb,and Sr concentrations in the specim.ns of hum.n prostatic *** of expressed prostatic fluid were obtained from.51 m.n(m.an age 51 years,range 18–82 years) with apparently norm.l prostates using standard rectal m.ssage *** values(m.± SEL) for concentration of trace elem.nts(m. L^(-1)) in hum.n prostate fluid were:Fe 9.04 ±1.21,Zn 573 ± 35,Br 3.58 ± 0.59,Rb 1.10 ± 0.08,and Sr B *** was shown that the results of trace elem.nt analysis in the m.cro-sam.les(20 l L) are sufficiently representative for assessm.nt of the Fe,Zn,Br,and Rb concentration in the prostate *** facility for109 Cd radionuclide-induced EDXRF is com.aratively com.act and can be located in close proxim.ty to the site of carrying out the m.ssage *** m.ans of Zn and Rb concentration obtained for prostate fluid agree well with m.dian of reported *** the first tim.,the Fe and Br concentrations,as well as the upper lim.t of the Sr concentration,were determ.ned in the hum.n prostate fluid.
