Cave-adap.ed animals p.ovide a unique op.ortunity to study the evolutionary mechanisms underlying p.enotyp.c,metabolic,behavioral,and genetic evolution in resp.nse to cave *** mexican tetra(Astyanax mexicanus)is considered a unique model system as it shows both surface and cave-dwelling *** date,at least 33 different cave p.p.lations have been identified,with p.ylogenetic studies suggesting an origin from at least two indep.ndent surface lineages,thereby p.oviding a unique op.ortunity to study p.rallel *** the p.esent study,we carried out the most exhaustive p.ylogeograp.ic study of *** to date,including cave and surface localities,using two mitochondrial markers(cytochrome b(cyt b)and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI))and nuclear rhodop.in visual p.gment(rho).Additionally,we inferred the molecular evolution of rho within the two contrasting environments(cave and surface)and across three geograp.ic regions(Sierra de El Abra,Sierra de Guatemala,and micos).In total,267 individuals were sequenced for the two mitochondrial fragments and 268 individuals were sequenced for the rho visual p.gment from 22 cave and 46 surface *** results based on the mitochondrial data sup.orted the two-lineage hyp.thesis,excep. for the p.chón and Chica caves,whose introgression has been largely *** Sierra de El Abra region dep.cted the largest genetic diversity,followed by the Sierra de Guatemala *** the p.ylogeograp.ic p.tterns of rho,we recovered exclusive hap.ogroup. for the Sierra de El Abra(Hap.ogroup.I)and Sierra de Guatemala regions(Hap.ogroup.IV).moreover,a 544 bp.deletion in the rho gene was observed in the Escondido cave p.p.lation from Sierra de Guatemala,reducing the p.otein from seven to three intramembrane *** change may p.oduce a loss-of-function(LOF)but requires further *** nonsynonymous(dN)and synonymous(dS)substitution rates(omega valuesω),our results revealed

Deep.body temp.rature of 57 male Wistar rats was measured in resp.nse to systemic (i.v. or i.p.) injection of Escherichia coli lip.p.lysaccharide (Lp.). Animals were p.eliminarily (4 weeks before the exp.riment) treated with microinjections of the toxic dose of glutamate recep.ors agonists or vehicle into solitary tract nucleus or caudal p.rt of ventrolateral medulla. microinjections of the glutamate recep.ors agonists p.ovoked a local destruction of brain tissue, which was accomp.nied by the significant transformation (amp.ification or attenuation) of temp.rature resp.nse to the systemic injection of 3 μg/kg E. coli Lp.. Animals treated with vehicle did not demonstrate significant changes in their resp.nse to Lp.. Obtained data testify that imp.irment of central nervous structure involved in the regulation and maintenance of deep.body temp.rature is accomp.nied by atyp.cal develop.ent of E. coli Lp.-induced fever.

Binding of naturally occurring hydroxycinnamic acids to bovine serum albumin

Hydroxycinnamic acids (HCAs) p.ssess numer- ous biological effects including antioxidant, antiallergic, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory activities and due to these p.op.rties are widely used in folk medicine. Nevertheless, they can interact with p.otein molecules and cause some structural and functional changes. The p.ssib- ility of HCAs binding to bovine serum albumin (BSA) under p.ysiological conditions was inve- stigated by the UV-VIS absorp.ion sp.ctroscop. and fluorescence quenching method. Ap.rt from rosmarinic acid, all tested HCAs quenched tryp.op.an fluorescence of BSA in the studied range of concentrations (0-20 μm) mainly by static quenching mechanism (formation of non- fluorescent HCA-BSA comp.exes). The binding constants, number of binding sites and free energy changes were determined. The binding affinities of HCAs were ranked in the order: chlorogenic acid > sinap.c acid ≥ caffeic acid > ferulic acid > o-coumaric acid > p.coumaric acid ≥ m-coumaric acid, which was confirmed by sp.ctral overlap. of BSA emission sp.ctrum with absorp.ion sp.ctrum of HCA. All free energy changes p.ssessed negative sign indicating the sp.ntaneity of HCA-BSA interaction.

Neutron activation analysis technique of the Gd2O2S:М scintillation ceramics was develop.d. The concentrations of 15 trace, minor and major elements (As, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Eu, Fe, La, Sc, Tb, Zn, Zr, p., Gd, Na) have been measured with the instrumental neutron activation analysis of the Gd2O2S:p. samp.e. The concentrations range of the determined elements is from 3 × 10-8 to 2.0% in mass. The determination limit of the elements was calculated to be (0.6 - 1.3 × 10-8% in mass).

SEm Comp.rison of p.netration in Artificial White Sp.ts Lesion between an Infiltrant Resin and Two Adhesive Systems

White sp.t infiltration emerged as an alternative of non-invasive treatment to halt p.ogression of the lesion, through the use of low viscosity resins that would p.rmeate the p.rous enamel and form a p.ysical barrier that would p.event the acid diffusion p.oduced by micro-organisms. p.rp.se: To comp.re p.netration levels in artificial white sp.t lesions, of infiltrant resin ICON™and 2 conventional adhesives systems, Xp.Bond™and Single Bond 2™. methodology: White sp.t lesions (ICDAS code 2) were caused in 75 p.emolars or third molars were extracted in good conditions, by immersion in a 0.1 m lactic acid solution (p. 4.5) at 37℃ for 8 weeks. They were divided randomly into 3 group. of 25 samp.es and ap.lied the following resins, Group.A: ICON™, B: Xp.Bond™and C: Single Bond 2™. Subsequently, the enamel was removed with hydrochloric acid to exp.se resin saturated area and the samp.es were metalized with Au-p. for SEm observation. The resin tags lengths were measured on microp.otograp.s through software, and the values were analyzed with the statistics ANOVA and Scheffé p.st-test. Results: There were significant differences (p.™(82.7 μm ± 26.8 μm) comp.red to adhesive systems Xp.Bond™(58.5 μm ± 29.3 μm) and Single Bond 2™(44.8 μm ± 32.5 μm). We found no significant differences between the two adhesive systems (p.> 0.05). Conclusion: Under the conditions tested, the p.netration of infiltrant ICON was significantly higher than the adhesive systems;however, it removes the surface layer of the enamel.

Understanding the mechanism of oxidative stress is likely to yield new insights regarding the p.thogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Our earlier work focused on the difference between hemoglobin and methemoglobin degradation, resp.ctively leading to ferrous (Fe2+) iron, or ferric (Fe3+) iron. methemoglobin has the role of carrier, the donor of cytotoxic and redox-active ferric (Fe3+) iron, which can directly accumulate and increase the rate of cap.llary endothelial cell ap.p.osis, and may cross into the brain p.renchyma, to the astrocytes, glia, neurons, and other neuronal cells (neurovascular unit). This sup.osition help. us to understand the transp.rt and neuronal accumulation p.ocess of ferric iron, and determine how iron is transp.rted and accumulated intracellularly, identifiable as “Brain rust”. Earlier research found that the incidences of neonatal jaundice (p.= 0.034), heart murmur (p.= 0.011) and disorders such as dyslalia and learning/memory imp.irments (p.= 0.002) were significantly higher in those children born from mothers with methemoglobinemia. Our hyp.thesis suggests that p.enatal iron abnormalities could lead to greater neuronal death, the disease ageing p.ocess, and neurodegenerative disorders such as AD and other neurodegenerative diseases.
