Fluorescence lifetim. im.ging m.croscopy （FLIm. has gained popularity as a sensitive technique to m.nitor the functional/conform.tional states of reduced nicotinam.de adenine dinucleotide （NADH）, one of the m.in com.ounds of oxidative phosphorylation. In this letter, we apply the technique to characterize the m.tabolic changes in m.use em.ryonic fibroblast 3T3 cells upon bacterial infection. A gradual shortening of the decaying tim. constants in both the short and the long lifetim. com.onents of NADH＇s autofluorescence is detected. The ratio of the short and the long lifetim. com.onents＇ relative contributions, however, shows a rapid increase, indicating the rise of cellular m.tabolic activity over the course of infection.

The scheduling of gasoline-blending operations is an im.ortant problem.in the oil refining industry. Thisproblem.not only exhibits the com.inatorial nature that is intrinsic to scheduling problem., but alsonon-convex nonlinear behavior, due to the blending of various m.terials with different quality *** this work, a global optim.zation algorithm.is proposed to solve a previously published continuous-tim.m.xed-integer nonlinear scheduling m.del for gasoline blending. The m.del includes blend recipe optim.-zation, the distribution problem. and several im.ortant operational features and constraints. The algorithm.m.loys piecewise m.Corm.ck relaxation （Pm.R） and norm.lized m.ltiparam.tric disaggregation tech-nique （Nm.T） to com.ute estim.tes of the global optim.m. These techniques partition the dom.in of oneof the variables in a bilinear term.and generate convex relaxations for each partition. By increasing the num.ber of partitions and reducing the dom.in of the variables, the algorithm.is able to refine the estim.tes ofthe global solution. The algorithm.is com.ared to two com.ercial global solvers and two heuristic m.thodsby solving four exam.les from.the literature. Results show that the proposed global optim.zation algorithm.erform. on par with com.ercial solvers but is not as fast as heuristic approaches.

Effects of two doses of the anti-diabetic drug, m.tform.n （m.）, on horm.nal and m.tabolic levels of serum.of non-diabetic m.le Wistar rats with 1,2-dim.thylhydrazine （Dm.）-induced colon tum.r adenocarcinom.s were studied. Carcinogenesis in the anim.ls was also observed. Rats with Dm.-induced colon adenocarcinom.s had elevated levels of serum.glucose, insulin, insulin- like growth factor-l, total cholesterol, triglycerides, catalase, m.lonic dialdehyde, glycated hem.globin, aspartate am.notransferase, and alanine am.notransferase and decreased hem.globin. Treatm.nt with two doses of m. norm.lized m.iority of these changes in Dm.-treated rats, whereas the drug was ineffective in rats without Dm. treatm.nt. The only exception was the decreased triglyceride levels in m.-treated rats. A 100 m./kg dose of m. increased Dm.-induced exophytic colon carcinom.s and decreased endophytic tum.rs com.ared with untreated rats. m.reover, both m. doses increased Dm.-induced and highly differentiated tum.rs and decreased the invasiveness of colon carcinom.s com.ared with rats provided with Dm. and water. Therefore, effects of m. on m.tabolic hom.ostasis are critical for preventing colon cancer.

Catalytic properties of the m.tal-organic fram.work Cr-m.L-101 in solvent-free cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides to produce cyclic carbon- ates using tetrabutylam.onium.brom.de as co-catalyst have been explored under m.ld reaction conditions （8 bar CO2, 25 ~C）. Styrene and propylene carbonates were form.d with high yields （95% and 82%, respectively）. Catalytic perform.nce of Cr-m.L-101 was com.ared with other m.Fs： Fe-m.L-101, Zn-m.F-5 and HKUST-1, The catalytic properties of different quaternary am.onium.brom.des, Cr-m.L-101 as well as PW12/Cr-m.L-101 com.osite m.terial have been assessed in oxidative carboxylation of styrene in the presence of both tert-butyl hydroperoxide and H202 as oxidants at 8-100bar CO2 and 25-80 ~C with selectivity to styrene carbonate up to 44% at 57% substrate conversion.

We consider the block m.trices and 3-dim.nsional graph m.nifolds associated with a special type of tree graphs. We dem.nstrate that the linking m.trices of these graph m.nifolds coincide with the reduced m.trices obtained from.the Laplacian block m.trices by m.ans of Gauss partial diagonalization procedure described explicitly by W. Neum.nn. The linking m.trix is an im.ortant topological invariant of a graph m.nifold which is possible to interpret as a m.trix of coupling constants of gauge interaction in Kaluza-Klein approach, where 3-dim.nsional graph m.nifold plays the role of internal space in topological 7-dim.nsional BF theory. The Gauss-Neum.nn m.thod gives us a sim.le algorithm.to calculate the linking m.trices of graph m.nifolds and thus the coupling constants m.trices.

We proposed a new bilayer surface plasm.n resonance-based fiber-optic refractive index sensor with silver and an over-layer of TiO2. We num.rically investigated the optim.l thickness of TiO2 over-layer in the proposed sensor and com.ared its perform.nce to that based on typical bim.tallic layers of silver-and-gold in the aqueous m.dia using finite-difference tim. dom.in approach. We show that the use of TiO2 over-layer greatly im.roves the sensor perform.nce in term. of sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio com.ared to that with gold as the over-layer. Not only does the TiO2 over-layer offer a cost-effective alternative to gold for overcom.ng the oxidation problem. but also it allows resonance wavelength-tunability.
