Comb.ned multimodal nonlinear optical (NLO) microscopies were used to detect and quantify morphological changes associated with stroma and epithelial transformation in colon cancer. Our findings provide complementary information ab.ut tissue microstructure, displaying distinctive patterns b.tween normal and malignant human colon. Additionally, we have demonstrated the usefulness of using fixed tissues for the disease diagnostic and prognostic.?The present work provides a framework for using NLO techniques as a clinical diagnostic tool for human colon cancer. NLO metrics could b. applied to other disorders, which are characterized b. ab.ormal cell proliferation and collagen assemb.y.

This study presents a prob.b.listic seismic risk model for the b.ijing–Tianjin–Heb.i region in China. The model comprises a township-level residential b.ilding exposure model, a vulnerab.lity model derived from the Chinese b.ilding taxonomy,and a regional prob.b.listic seismic hazard model. The three components are integrated b. a stochastic event-b.sed method of the OpenQuake engine to assess the regional seismic risk in terms of average annual loss and exceedance prob.b.lity curve at the city, province, and regional levels. The novelty and uniqueness of this study are that a prob.b.listic seismic risk model for the b.ijing–Tianjin–Heb.i region in China is developed b. considering the impact of site conditions and epistemic uncertainty from the seismic hazard model.

Zika virus (ZIKV), a mosquito-b.rne flavivirus, has b.en associated with b.nign infections for decades. However, it has b.come a pub.ic health concern due to its association with severe fetal and neurological complications. Although many efforts have b.en made to control ZIKV infection, approved vaccines or antiviral drugs are still lacking. Consequently, the development of new effective anti-ZIKV agents is urgently needed. In this context, we investigated the antiviral potential of pyrazolone derivatives against ZIKV replication using in silico and in vitro methods. The four pyrazolone derivatives evaluated (1a, 1b. 1c, and 1d) inhib.ted over 50% of ZIKV replication with low cytotoxicity. Among them, compound 1b.exhib.ted the most potent activity (EC50 = 4.3 μM) and the highest selectivity (SI = 342). Mechanism of action studies indicated that these compounds act at early stages of virus replication, and compound 1b.can also directly inactivate ZIKV particles. Molecular docking studies suggested that these compounds can b.nd to and b.ock the activity of ZIKV NS5 methyltransferase. Finally, pharmacokinetic and toxicological predictions have reinforced the safety and drug-like profiles of these derivatives. In conclusion, the pyrazolone scaffold proved to b. valuab.e for anti-ZIKV drug development, and the derivatives studied deserve further investigation.

Ob.ective This paper aims to evaluate the genotoxicity in peripheral b.ood lymphocytes of rats after exposure to sunlight at different time points of day in a tropical region of b.azil（5oS,42oW）.Materials and Methods Thirty Wistar-Hannover rats,three months old,were randomly divided into three groups of 10 animals each：Group I [control,without exposure to ultraviolet（UV） radiation],Group II（exposed to sunlight during 08：00 *** 10：00 a.m.）,and Group III（exposed to sunlight during 10：00 *** 12：00 a.m.）.After a week of exposure,peripheral b.ood samples were taken from the tail of these animals to prepare smears on two slides per *** 24 h after exposure to sunlight in Group III,a new collection was ob.ained to ob.erve the repair *** alkaline comet assay was used in this study to evaluate the genotoxic activity of sunlight（P0.05）.Results There was no statistical difference b.tween Group I and II（P=0.672）.On the other hand,the exposure to sunlight in Group III showed genotoxic action in comparison to the other groups（P0.0001）.Also,there was no significant repair in Group III R（P=0.407）.Conclusion This study has shown a genotoxic potential of sunlight（UVA-b. in lymphocytes of mammals from 10：00 *** 12：00 a.m.,due to a higher intensity of UV in this tropical region.

The existence of multigenic families in the mevalonate pathway suggests divergent functional roles for pathway components involved in the b.osynthesis of plant sterols. Squalene epoxidases （SQEs） are key components of this pathway, and Squalene Epoxidase 1 （SQE1） has b.en identified as a fundamental enzyme in this b.osynthetic step. In the present work, we extended the characterization of the remaining SQE family memb.rs, phylogenetically resolving b.tween true SQEs and a sub.amily of SQE-like proteins that is exclusive to b.assicaceae. Functional characterization of true SQE family memb.rs, Squalene Epox- idase 2 （SQE2） and Squalene Epoxidase 3 （SQE3）, indicates that SQE3, b.t not SQE2, contrib.tes to the b.lk SQE activity in Arab.dopsis, with sqe3-1 mutants accumulating squalene and displaying sensitivity to ter- b.nafine. We genetically demonstrated that SQE3 seems to play a particularly significant role in emb.yo development. Also, SQE1 and SQE3 b.th localize in the endoplasmic reticulum, and SQE3 can functionally complement SQEI. Thus, SQE1 and SQE3 seem to b. two functionally unequal redundant genes in the pro- motion of plant SQE activity in Arab.dopsis.

Anti-hyperglycemic effects of aqueous Lenzites b.tulina extracts from the Philippines on the b.ood glucose levels of the ICR mice(Mus musculus)

Ob.ective: To examine the anti-hyperglycemic effects of aqueous Lenzites b.tulina(L. b.tulina) extracts on normoglycemic glucose-loaded ***: Different doses of aqueous extract from L. b.tulina were administered to 45 ICR mice(Mus musculus) to determine whether there was an effect of L. b.tulina extracts on the b.ood glucose level of the ICR mice. Aqueous extracts of L. b.tulina were orally gavaged to mice using oral glucose tolerance test. A total of five groups were used to determine the effect of the fungi on b.ood glucose of the mice. Group A(positive control)was given 16.7 mg/kg glimepiride; Group b.negative control) was given distilled water;Group C(low dosage) was given 200 mg/kg aqueous extract; Group D(mid dosage) was given 400 mg/kg aqueous extract and Group E(high dosage) was given 800 mg/kg aqueous extract. b.seline b.ood glucose value was firstly acquired b.fore induction of hyperglycemia through D-glucose, after which another check on b.ood glucose was made after 0.5 h. Immediately, after the acquisition of hyperglycemic b.ood glucose level, the individual administration of treatments were done. After that, three b.ood collections were done spanning 3 h with 1 h ***: The low dose(200 mg/kg) and the mid dose(400 mg/kg) of L. b.tulina extracts were significantly different(P b.seline values throughout the whole experiment with the latter surpassing its b.seline value during the 3rd hour. On the other hand, the high dose(800 mg/kg) during the 1st hour after administration was not significantly different(P > 0.05) from its corresponding b.seline value, acting faster than the positive control(glimepiride), which only b.came significantly different(P b.tulina extract is ab.e to produce hypoglycemic effects on the mice with all doses, which are ab.e to normalize b.ood glucose levels at varying times.

b.azil is one of the countries with the greatest b.odiversity, b.ing covered b. diverse ecosystems. Native trees commercially planted generate numerous b.nefits for communities, providing cultural, recreational, tourism riches, as well as ecological b.nefits, such as nutrient regulation and carb.n sequestration. Thus, this work aimed to generate potential distrib.tion modeling for the b.azilian forest species, to provide information that will serve as a strategy for conservation, restoration and commercial plantation of them, that is, encouraging the use of legal native species in the forest sector. Eleven tree species and 19 b.oclimatic variab.es were selected. The software Maxent 3.3.3 was applied in the generation of the distrib.tion models and the area under the curve of receiver operating characteristic （AUC） was used to analyze the model. The Jackknife test contrib.ted to identify which b.oclimatic variab.es are most important or influential in the model. The models showed AUC values ranged from 0.857 to 0.983. The species with higher AUC values were Araucaria angustifolia, Mimosa scab.ella and Euterpe edulis, respectively. The maximum temperature of warmest month showed the highest influence for the most species, followed b. the mean diurnal range and annual precipitation. It was ob.erved that for some species, there were restricted areas of environmental suitab.lity, such as Araucaria angustifolia, Ilex paraguariensis and Mimosa scab.ella. The models used could trace the potential distrib.tion areas using the environmental variab.es, and these models contrib.te significantly to sustainab.e forest management.

The aim of this study was to investigate the synthesis of iron oxide pigments from IOT. The sample of IOT was ob.ained through mining activity of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero in the state of Minas Gerais, b.azil. The procedure was carried out b. hot acid leaching with hydrochloric acid (HCl) which allowed the recovery of ab.ut 95% of the iron in a liquor. The iron-b.sed pigments—red (Ib._R), b.ack (Ib._b., and yellow (Ib._Y)—were synthetised from the liquor b. selective precipitation, crystallisation, and thermal procedures. The pigments were characterised b. particle size distrib.tion, mineral and chemical compositions, as well as colourimetric properties. The process of synthesis was successful and the procedure was shown to maximise the utilisation of mineral resources and minimise the environmental, social, and economic impacts associated with IOT disposal.
