A new analytical model of a 3-degree-of-freedom （3-DOF） gyro-accelerometer system consisting of a 1-DOF drive and 2-DOF sense modes is presented. The model constructs lumped differential equations associated with each DOFof the system by vector analysis. The coupled differential equations thus established are solved analytically for their responses in both the time and frequency domains. Considering these frequency response equations, novel device design concepts are derived by forcing the sense phase to zero, which leads to a certain relationship between the structural frequencies, thereby causing minimization of the damping effect on the performance of the system. Furthermore, the feasibility of the present gyro-accelerometer structure is studied using a unique discriminatory scheme for the detection of both gyro action and linear acceleration at their events. This scheme combines the formulated settled transient solution of the gyro-accelerometer with the processes of synchronous demodulation and filtration, which leads to the in-phase and quadrature components of the system＇s output signal. These two components can be utilized in the detection of angular motion and linear acceleration. The obtained analytical results are validated by simulation in a MATLAB/Simulink environment, and it is found that the results are in excellent agreement with each other.

Machining titanium is one of ever-increasing magnitude problems due to its characteristics such as low thermal conductivity, modulus of elasticity and work hardening. The efficient titanium alloy machining involves a proper selection of process parameters to minimize the tangential force （Fz） and surface roughness （Ra）. In the present work, the performance of PVD/TiA1N coated carbide inserts was investigated using response surface methodology （RSM） for turning Ti-6A1-4V. The effects of process parameters such as speed （v）, feed （/＇）, depth of cut （d） and back rake angle （Ty） on Fz and Ra were investi- gated. The experimental plan used for four factors and three levels was designed based on face centered, central composite design （CCD）. The experimental results indi- cated that Fz increased with the increase in d, f and decreased with the increase in v and yy, whereas Ra decreased with the increase in v and 7y, and increased with d and v. The goodness of fit of the regression equations and model fits （R2） for Fz and Ra were found to be 0.968 and 0.970, which demonstrated that it was an effective model. A confirmation test was also conducted in order to verify the correctness of the model.

Quantification of organic carbon and primary nutrients in litter and soil in a foothill forest plantation of eastern Himalaya

The present study was an effort to understand the amount of litter fall and its subsequent decomposition and quantify the release of available nutrients and soil physicochemical characteristics in plantations of four forest tree species(Lagerstroemia parviflora, Tectona grandis, Shorea robusta and Michelia champaca) in the Chilapatta Reserve Forest of the Cooch Behar Wildlife Division in the Terai zone of West Bengal, India. The most litter(5.61 Mg ha)was produced by T. grandis plantation and the least(4.72 Mg ha) by L. parviflora. The material turnover rate to the soil through decomposition from total litter was fastest during the first quarter of the year and subsequently decreased during the next two quarters. The material turnover rate was only 1 year, which indicates that more than90% of the total litter produced decomposed within a *** available primary nutrient content in litter varied across the four plantations over the year. The plantations generally did not significantly influence the soil physical characteristics but did significantly influence the availability of primary nutrients and organic carbon at two depths(1–15 and16–30 cm) over the year. The availability of soil primary nutrients in the four plantations also increased gradually from the first quarter of the year to the third quarter and then decreased during the last quarter to the same level as in the first quarter of the year at both depths. The availability for soil organic carbon in the plantations followed a similar trend. The amount of litter produced and the material turnover in the soil in the different plantations differed, influencing the nutrient availability and organic carbon at the plantations. The amount of soil organic carbon was highest for T. grandis(2.52 Mg ha) and lowest for L. parviflora(2.12 Mg ha). The Heaviside’s(or Benguela)dolphin(Cephalorhynchus heavisidii)is endemic to the west coast of southern *** present study investigated the population genetic structure across a large portion of the species distribution using mitochondrial control region and nuclear(microsatellite)markers.A total of 395 biopsy skin samples were analyzed;they were collected from free-ranging Heaviside’s dolphins in 7 locations along 1650 km of coast between Table Bay,South Africa and Walvis Bay,*** genetic markers rejected the hypothesis of 1 homogenous population but revealed contrasting results in the genetic structuring of putative pop*** DNA suggested either 2 populations or a fine-scale division with 6(sub)populations,while microsatellite markers were indicative of 2 widespread populations with measurable gene flow between *** tests and mismatch distribution of the mitochondrial sequences indicated a departure from mutation-drift equilibrium due to a population expansion at the 2 extremes of the geographic range,but not towards the middle of the *** results highlight the importance of evaluating multiple genetic markers to gain reliable insights into population processes and structure.

This study analyzed information gathered from 200 date palm households in the mountainous Panjgur District of Balochistan in Pakistan with the aim of determining date farmers＇ access to and satisfaction with agricultural extension services. Information was collected through a structured questionnaire survey, group discussions and semi- structured personal interviews. The findings of the analysis revealed very poor access to extension services. The results of logistic regression analysis identified five variables out of six which significantly influence date farmers＇ access to extension services： household bead＇s age, household bead＇s literacy, number of date palm trees owned, mostly inherited date palm trees, and percentage of dead date palm trees. The overwhelming majority of farmers were dissatisfied with all three main types of extension services being provided by public extension officials. Explanations for this as well as for associations between access to extension services and the six independent variables are provided. Important policy conclusions are drawn based on the findings.

At two-way stop controlled(TWSC)intersections drivers on minor stream are generally at risk because of the difficulty in judging safe gap between major stream *** misjudgment by the driver while choosing gap may result in a collision with major stream *** paper provides important insights for determining and analyzing spatial critical gaps of drivers at high speed and medium speed TWSC *** critical gap line(CGL)fitted for the accepted and rejected gaps using parametric(binary logit model-BLM)and non-parametric(support vector machines-SVM)techniques gives critical gap values at 15 th,50 th and 85 th percentile *** evaluation of spatial critical gap with respect to major road vehicle(conflicting vehicle)speed makes it easier to understand the impact of variation in speed on spatial gaps accepted by the drivers on the minor *** logit models developed revealed that the probability of accepting gap decreases with increase in the speed of the conflicting vehicle and it increases with increase in the distance of conflicting *** spatial critical gaps estimated using support vector machines were found in close approximation with those estimated using binary logit *** study results showed that SVMs have very good potential to be an alternative tool for the estimation of driver's critical *** spatial critical gaps corresponding to 15 th,50 th and 85 th percentile speeds for medium speed intersections were 32 m,38 m and 46 m respectively and for high speed intersections these values were 64 m,76 m and 104 m *** increase in the magnitude of gap value with respect to the percentile speed clearly states the effect of speed on spatial *** insights from the study can be used to suggest various measures to improve the safety of crossing drivers at uncontrolled intersections.
