In this paper,effect of Gd^3+was investigated on structural,magnetic,and dielectric properties of Mn0.5Zn0.5GdxFe2–xO4(x=0,0.025,0.050,0.075,and 0.1)nanoparticles prepared by facile coprecipitation method.X-ray diffraction(XRD)studies confirmed the single cubic spinel phase for all the samples and showed that lattice parameter(aexp)was found to increase from 8.414 to 8.446Åwith the substitution of Gd3+ions due to their larger ionic radii than the replaced Fe3+*** and size of developed nanoparticles were studied using transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and found that particle size decreased from 31.06 to 21.12 nm for x=0–*** properties showed that maximum magnetization decreased from 39.21 to 23.59 emu/g,and Curie temperature decreased from 192 to 176℃with increase in x from 0 to 0.1 due to weakening of superexchange *** parameters like dielectric constant(e¢ande¢),dielectric loss(tanδ),AC conductivity(σac),and impedance(Z¢and Z¢)as a function of frequency and composition were analyzed and *** was found thate¢,e¢,σac,and tanδvalues decreased with Gd substitution,which has been explained based on Maxwell–Wagner theory and hopping mechanism of electrons between Fe3+and Fe2+ions at octahedral *** plots for all the developed compositions showed single semi-circular arc which indicate the dominant effect of grain boundaries.

Co-gasification of coal and biomass an emerging clean energy technology: Status and prospects of development in Indian context

Co-gasification of coal and biomass is emerging as potential clean fuel technology to achieve high thermodynamic efficiency with relatively low CO2 emission. The coal and biomass have been exclusively gasified more than a century to obtain gas–liquid fuels and the production of chemicals. Co-gasification has higher efficiency than the solitary coal gasification because the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin content of biomass help to ignite and enhance the rate of gasification. It is suggested that the extensive research on carbon reactivity pattern, heat release, reaction kinetics, etc. may support to reduce the uncertainties in the co-gasification performance of coal and biomass blends, particularly in India. The prospects of co-gasification technology in Indian context have been discussed considering the abundance of varieties of coal and biomass. The suitability of existing gasifier procedures and their limitations with operating parameters like temperature, residence time, density optimisation, feed rate, agglomeration intensity, the tar formation and techno-economics involved are described. Also, this paper reviews the research highlights of the history of co-gasification and the advancement in upcoming challenges like a design of gasifier, access and preparation of biomass, disposal of residue, environmental concerns and reassurance to the operators for execution of large and small-scale projects.

Spatial pattern analysis for quantification of landscape structure of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve,Central India

Landscape structure is often regarded as an important factor that governs the distribution and abundance of species. Therefore it is critical to understand the landscapes and their dynamics. Patterns of landscape elements strongly influence the ecological characteristics. This study was designed to document and map the current status of the tropi-cal dry deciduous forest of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve （TATR）, Central India, （using IRS P6 LISS IV data） and to describe its landscape structure at three levels of organization viz. landscape, class, and patch. The study area was classified into 10 land cover classes that include 6 vegetation classes. The landscape structure was analyzed using FRAG-STATS using 12 set of indices. The TATR landscapes have a total of 2,307 patches with a mean patch size of 25.67 ha and patch density of 1.7 patches per km2. Amongst all land cover classes, mixed bamboo forest is dominant-it occupied maximum area （77.99%）-while riparian forest is least represented （0.32%）. Mixed forest has maximum number of patches among all vegetation classes. Results have shown that despite being dominant in the area, mixed bamboo forest has low patch density （0.25/100 ha）. Dominance of mixed bamboo forest is attributed to large patch sizes and not to the number of patches. This study has focussed on the approach of integrating satellite forest classification and forest inven-tory data for studying forest landscape patterns.

Comparison of rectangular and circular bored twin tunnels in weak ground

The recent innovation of a rectangular tunnel boring machine(TBM),and its use in the Hongzhuan Road tunnel underpass by the China Railway Engineering Group(CREG),has revitalized shallow depth soft soil *** paper presents the findings of a numerical study using PLAXIS to determine the surface settlements and moments produced in tunnel linings for circular and rectangular twin *** effects of the relative positions of twin tunnels,critical distances,volume losses,depths of burial,and tunnel sizes for both circular and rectangular tunnels are the key parameters of this *** results indicate that rectangular tunnels are suitable for shallow depths in weak ground as they have lesser settlement compared with circular *** is crucial for tunneling beneath important structures such as railway lines and existing ***,the maximum bending moment produced in the rectangular tunnel lining is higher than that for circular *** use of rectangular TBMs is an unconventional method in modern day tunneling;however,the analysis in this project recommends that tunnel industry engineers consider this method for shallow depth weak ground tunneling.

A magnitude M;7.8 earthquake occurred on 25 April 2015(referred as Gorkha earthquake).We have analyzed the spatial variation of b-value and two-dimensional strain within Nepal Himalaya before and after the Gorkha *** have used continuous Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)data from 30 stations in the Nepal region for geodetic strain estimation and earthquake data for b-value *** GNSS data were processed using double differencing technique for the accurate position of each *** precise velocity vectors show a general azimuth of north east for all the stations and have been used to derive two-dimensional *** epicenters of Gorkha(25 April 2015)and Dolakha earthquakes(12 May 2015),we observed high co-seismic horizontal displacements(0.2 m to 2 m).In the Pre-seismic deformation study,maximum strain accumulation(56.40×10;)and low bvalue(0.79-0.89)was observed in and around the Western Nepal region,which may be responsible for the 2015 Gorkha *** potential seismic zones were identified by GIS based integration of geodetic strain and b-value map and superimposition using weighted overlay *** Maximum strain and low b-value are now observed in the eastern part of ***,the spatial disposition of elastic energy has changed after the two major earthquakes and continuous seismic hazard assessment is required in the eastern Nepal.

Nano-magnetic ferrites with composition Mg_(1-x)Zn_(x)Fe_(2)O_(4)(x=0.3,0.4,0.5,0.6,and 0.7)have been prepared by coprecipitation method.X-ray diffraction(XRD)studies showed that the lattice parameter was found to increase from 8.402 to 8.424A with Zn^(2+) ion content from 0.3 to *** transform infrared(FTIR)spectra revealed two prominent peaks corresponding to tetrahedral and octahedral at around 560 and 430 cm^(-1) respectively that confirmed the spinel phase of the *** electron microscopy(TEM)images showed that the particle size was noted to increase from 18 to 24 nm with an increase in Zn content from x=0.3 to *** magnetic properties were studied by vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM)and electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)which ascertained the superparamagnetic behavior of the samples and contribution of superexchange *** maximum magnetization was found to vary from 23.80 to 32.78 emu/g that increased till x=0.5 and decreased ***,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)was employed to investigate the chemical composition and substantiate their oxidation states.

This paper proposes a simple and practical approach to model the uncertainty of solar irradiance and determines the optimized day-ahead(DA)schedule of electricity *** problem formulation incorporates the power output of distributed solar photovoltaic generator(DSPVG)and forecasted load demands with a specified level of *** proposed approach determines the certainty levels of the random variables(solar irradiance and forecasted load demand)from their probability density function *** this process of optimization,the energy storage system(ESS)has also been mod-eled based on the fact that the energy stored during low locational marginal price(LMP)periods and dispatched during high LMP periods would strengthen the economy of DA *** objective of the formulated non-linear optimization problem is to maximize the social welfare of market participants,which incorporates the assured generation outputs of DSPVG,subject to real and reactive power balance and transmission capability constraints of the system and charging/dis-charging and energy storage constraints of *** simulation has been performed on the Indian utility 62-bus *** results are presented with a large number of cases to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach for the efficient,economic and reliable operation of DA electricity markets.
