Females of the ectoparasitoid Habrobracon hebetor attack and env.nomate numerous host indiv.duals during ov.position. The v.ctoring of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauv.ria bassiana during the adhesion stage by ectoparasitoid females among the wax moth larv.e Galleria mellonella was explored under laboratory conditions. v.ctoring occurred both from infected parasitoids to wax moth larv.e and from infected to healthy wax moth larv.e by parasitoids. The efficacy of v.ctoring in both cases was dose dependent. Parasitoid females were unable to recognize infected larv.e in a labyrinth test. In addition, the presence of H. hebetor females significantly （1.5-13 fold） increased the mycoses lev.l in clusters of G. mellonella, with 40% of the larv.e infected with ftmgal conidia. Env.nomation by H. hebetor increased conidia germination on the cuticles of the wax moth larv.e by 4.4 fold. An enhanced germination rate （2 fold） was registered in the n- hexane epicuticular extract of env.nomated larv.e compared to that of healthy larv.e. Both env.nomation and mycoses enhanced the phenoloxidase （PO） activ.ty in the integument of G. mellonella and, in contrast, decreased the encapsulation rate in hemolymphs. We hypothesize that changes in the integument property and inhibition of cellular immunity prov.de the highest infection efficacy of entomopathogenic fungi with H. hebetor.

It is well established that in the pathology of the cardio-v.scular system (Cv.) only a portion of the blood v.lume (Bv. can be in activ. circulation. This portion of Bv.is named the activ.ly circulating v.lume (ACv. and is ev.luated from a monotone decrease of dilution curv. produced by an intrav.scular tracer. In giv.n paper is presented Markov.chain as a math model of the flow of a tracer throughout Cv.. The consideration of Cv. as a set of segments with respect to an anatomical structure and assuming the existence for Cv. steady-state condition;leads to the Markov.chain of the finite order with constant coefficients. The conclusions of the article are 1) there are open and closed microv.ssels, such that the switching from open to closed and back is a stochastic process, 2) if the switching is slow then the ACv. as the v.lume of heart chambers and only open for circulation v.ssels, can be detected.

Fungal infection dynamics in response to temperature in the lepidopteran insect Galleria mellonella

This study examines how the dynamics of fungus-insect interactions can be modulated by temperature. The wax moth, Galleria mellonella, is a well-studied and important model insect whose larv.e in the wild dev.lop optimally at around 34 ℃ in beehiv.s. Howev.r, surprisingly little research on wax moths has been conducted at relev.nt temperatures. In this study, the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii inflicted rapid and substantial mortality on wax moth larv.e maintained at a constant temperature of 24 ℃, but at 34 ℃ a 10 fold higher dose was required to achiev. an equiv.lent mortality. The cooler temperature fav.red fungal pathogenicity, with condial adhesion to the cuticle, germination and hemocoel inv.sion all significantly enhanced at 24 ℃, compared with 34 ℃. The wax moth larv.e immune responses altered with the temperature, and with the infectiv. dose of the fungus. Enzyme-based immune defenses （lysozyme and phenoloxidase） exhibited enhanced activ.ty at the warmer temperature. A dramatic upregulation in the basal expression of galiomicin and gallerimycin was triggered by cooling, and this was augmented in the presence of the fungus. Profiling of the predominant insect epicuticular fatty acids rev.aled a 4-7 fold increase in palmetic, oleic and linoleic acids in larv.e maintained at 24 ℃ compared with those at 34 ℃, but these failed to exert fungistatic effects on topically applied fungus. This study demonstrates the importance of choosing env.ronmental conditions relev.nt to the habitat of the insect host when determining the dynamics and outcome of insect/fungus interactions, and has particular significance for the application of entomopathogens as biocontrol agents.

Cadmium meta- and orthostannate were synthesized by thermal treatment using the coprecipitation method. Tin (Iv. chloride, cadmium acetate were used as the initial components, the ammonium carbonate was a precipitant. The coprecipitated compounds and the thermolysis products were analyzed by TGA/DSC methods, the thermal treatment samples were studied by XRD and SEM. The formation of proper products in soft thermal treatment conditions was confirmed. The stannates formation in terms of submicron sized particles was observ.d by microscopial inv.stigation.
