Influence of Date of Transplanting on Growth and Yield Attributes and Resultant Seed Quality of Davana

A field experiment was conducted at TamilNadu agricultural university, Coimbatore during rabi 2011 to study the effect of time transplanting on growth, yield attributes and resultant seed quality of davana. The experiment was laid out with five different dates of transplanting viz., October 15th, November 1st, November 15th, December 1st and December 15th with the spacing of 15 × 7.5 cm and 125:125:75 NPK kg/ha were adopted in a randomized block design with four replications. The results revealed that the seedlings transplanted at 15th November recorded the maximum number of branches/plant, seed yield/plant, seed yield/plot, resultant seed germination and vigour index.

Trigonelline protects the cardiocyte from hydrogen peroxide induced apoptosis in H9c2 cells

Objective:To elucidate the key parameters associated with hydrogen peroxide induced oxidative stress and investigates the mechanism of trigonelline(TG)for reducing the H_2O_2induced toxicity in H9c2 ***:Cytotoxicity and antioxidant activity of TG was assessed by EZ-CYTOX *** extraction and cDNA synthesized according to the kit manufacture *** was measured by the Flowcytometry,general PCR and ***:It was found that the TG significantly rescued the morphology of the H9c2 *** of cells with TG attenuated H_2O_2 induced cell deaths and improved the antioxidant *** addition,TG regulated the apoptotic gene caspase-3,caspase-9 and anti-apoptotic gene ***-XL during H_2O_2 induced oxidative stress in H9c2 *** results were comparable with quercetin *** evident,flow cytometer results also confirmed the TG significantly reduced the H_2O_2 induced necrosis and apoptosis in H9c2 ***,further increment of TG concentration against H_2O_2 could induce the necrosis and apoptosis along with H_2O_***:It is suggested that less than 125μm of TG could protect the cells from H_2O_2 induced cell damage by down regulating the caspases and up regulating the Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL ***,we suggest the trigonelline could be useful for treatment of oxidative stress mediated cardiovascular diseases in future.

Synergetic influence of ex-situ camphoric carbon nano-grafting on lithium titanates for lithium ion capacitors

The present study provides detailed experimental results on the synthesis and characterization of carbonized lithium titanate spinel（LTO） composites as electrode materials for lithium ion *** LTO particles were grafted with a porous carbon layer obtained from the pyrolysis of *** graphitic nature of the carbon was confirmed through Raman *** relative contributions from the capacitive and diffusion controlled processes underlying these electrodes were mathematically *** transport mechanism underlying these electrodes was determined by measuring the work functions（φ） of LTO and carbon grafted LTO using ultraviolet photoelectron *** carbon grafted LTO composites exhibited an energy density of 330 m Wh L-1and a peak power density of 2.8 k W L-1,when employed as electrodes in coin cells with excellent cycling stability at the end of 4000 cycles.

Optical, Structural and morphological Properties of Photocatalytic ZnO Thin Films Deposited by Pray Pyrolysis Technique

Photocatalytic ZnO thin films have been deposited onto glass substrate by spray pyrolysis technique. The sprayed solution consists of 0.1 m of zinc acetate dihydrate dissolved in double distilled water and sprays onto ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates maintained at 350°C, through an air-atomizing nozzle. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEm), EDX and UV-VIS spectrophotometer were applied to describe the structural, morphological, compositional and optical properties of ZnO catalyst. XRD analysis confirms that the films were found to be single phase hexagonal wurtzite structure. The SEm micrograph of the films is shown highly uniform, crack free and found to be fiber like structures. The optical transmittance spectra of the ZnO thin films were found to be transparent to visible light and the average optical transmittance was greater than 85%. The direct optical band gap energy values of the films shift towards the lower energy as a consequence of the thermal annealing. The Urbach energy of the films was found to increase with annealing temperature. The refractive index of the films was calculated and the refractive index dispersion curve of the films obeys the single oscillator model. The values of oscillatory energy Eo, dispersion energy Ed, and static dielectric constant εs for the ZnO thin films were determined. The films were evaluated for their ability to degrade methylene blue. The Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model was used to interpret quantitatively the observed kinetic experimental result. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO thin films was enhanced by annealing temperature.

Iridium Implantation in T1 and T2 Cancers of Anterior Tongue: Report from B. P. Koirala memorial Cancer Hospital, Nepal

Early stage cancers of tongue are treated traditionally with a wide local excision or hemiglossectomy, but the preservation of normal speech and swallowing are hampered. most of the patients are treated with external beam irradiation to achieve the best locoregional control as only a limited number of tongue cancers can be excised. Underdeveloped nations with finite resources are still dependent on cobalt based external beam radiotherapy and sometimes a Linear Accelerator with two dimensional planning. This treatment has many limitations, as the large radiation fields irradiate not only the tumor but also normal tissue. The sequalae include mucositis, dry mouth, teeth and gum injury, spinal cord damage and rarely mandibular necrosis. Intensity modulated radiotherapy, which can abrogate these side effects, is not available to these patients. Irradiation using implanted solid radioactive sources into the tumor tissue is a viable option in this context. This kind of treatment is termed as brachytherapy and if the implant is introduced into the tissue then it is interstitial brachytherapy. This report details our experience in interstitial implantation, planning, dosimetry and treatment. Diagnosed cancers of anterior 2/3rd of lateral border of tongue with T1 N0m0 or T2 N0m0 stages were subjected to Iridium implantation under general anesthesia. Orthogonal films were taken and planning done with brachyvision treatment planning system. High dose rate radiotherapy was delivered as per the prescription. Excellent local control of the tumor was achieved with no undue morbidity to the adjacent structures. The patients were asked to undergo regular follow up. Surgical salvage was advised in cases of nodal recurrence. Interstitial implantation is a treatment that can be safely administered in early stage cancers of the tongue. This has remarkable efficacy and is also a patient friendly procedure.
