A mild, efficient and high yielding protocol for the synthesis of 2,2＇-arylmethelene dicyclohexane- 1,3-dione derivatives at room temperature and 9-aryl-1,8-dihydrooctahydroxanthene at conventional heating using cesium fluoride as a catalyst is reported. The major advantages of this reaction are excellent yield, very short reaction time and use of inexpensive catalyst.

Pleurotus sajor-caju (Fr.) Singer was cultivated on selected agro wastes viz. cotton stalks, groundnut haulms, soybean straw, pigeon pea stalks; leaves; wheat straw, alone or in combinations. Cotton stalks, pigeon pea stalks; wheat straw alone or in combination were found to be more suitable than groundnut haulms; soybean straw for the cultivation. Organic supplements such as groundnut oilseed cake, gram powder; rice bran not only affected growth parameters but also increased yields. Thus bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass by P. sajor-caju offers a promising way to convert low quality biomass into an improved human food.

Compressed air is an integral utility part of industrial utility systems. Any improvement in compressed air system will lead to reduction in utility cost. The effectiveness of utilization side of compressed air is usually dependent upon operator’s discretion. There are no performance testing methods available for testing existing end use equipments. A test apparatus for estimation of compressed air flow based on measurement of pressure reduction in a fixed volume cylinder in a given time is developed. The test apparatus is easy to build and simple to operate in an industrial environment. This can be used for measuring performance of any pneumatic end-use equipment and for benchmarking the performance. The test apparatus was used in a foundry for quantifying the performance of the old and new blow guns.

Introduction: We describe treatment of Cerebral Palsy with adult stem cells derived from bone marrow and fat of the same patient. Adult stem cells are of two types, the mesenchymal and haemopoietic stem cells which have potential to duplicate, indefinitely produce 50 types of growth factors that repair and regenerate tissues in an epigenetic manner. Every organ has its own stem cells, for example kidney stem cells, liver stem cells, etc. When specialized cells in an organ get damaged, the local stem cells come forward and get differentiated into specialized cells and the tissue damage is replenished. But when the stock of this reserve of local stem cell is over, the organ starts failing. In autologous stem cell therapy, we harvest stem cells from other healthy organs like fat and bone marrow which have abundant stem cells and put them into the diseased organ. Adult stem cells differentiate into neurons in vitro when added with nerve growth factor which is present in every nerve tissue. Our stem cell research was done by following all the guidelines set at national and international level. In India the incidence of cerebral palsy is around 5/1000 live births. In cerebral Palsy the upper motor neuron is weak, hence the lower motor neuron becomes hyper active leading to spasticity. The treatment involves mainly physiotherapy and prognosis is poor. Physiotherapy is a palliation and does not repair damage in the brain. The conventional therapy has failed to give any satisfactory results in these children hence something new needs to be done. Materials and Methods: In last 2 years we did stem cell therapy for 21 cases of CP in our center with age of 9 months to 17 years. Out of 21 cases of CP, 7 (33.3%) cases had quadriplegia, 6 (28.57%) paraplegia and 1 (4.76%) monoplegia, 2 (9%) hypotonic, 5 (23.8%) hemiplegia, 4 (19.04%) with mental retardation and 3 (14.28) had features of ADHD and Autism. 18 patients had squint in the eyes, 8 patients had food regurgitation and drool

In this paper, an adaptive subcarrier allocation scheme with reconfiguration of operating parameters for Cognitive radio Networks (CrN) is presented. A QoS-conscious spectrum decision frame work is projected, where spectrum bands are determined by considering the application requirements as well as the dynamic nature of the spectrum bands. The novel subcarrier allocation algorithm is developed to fulfill different performance objective as a solution for subcarrier allocation and power allocation problem for Cognitive radio (Cr) users in CrNs. It employs operating frequency parameter modification using Proportional resource Algorithm and Genetic Algorithm (GA). The multi objective optimization problem with equality and inequality constraint is considered. Moreover, a dynamic subcarrier allocations scheme is developed based on GA to decide on the spectrum bands adaptively dependent on the time-varying Cr network capacity. The proposed algorithm targets to achieve maximum data rate for each subcarrier, maximize the overall network throughput and maximize the number of satisfied user under the constraints of bandwidth and guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) requirement from dynamic spectrum management (DSM) perspective. Moreover, it determines the best available channel.

The ZrO2 thin films deposited on Si (100) were successfully synthesized by solgel process and deposited by using spin-coating *** structural properties of ZrO2 thin films were investigated by X-ray Diffraction (XrD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-Ir), and electrical properties were studied by conventional techniques like Capacitance-Voltage (C-V) measurement and Current–Voltage (I–V) measurement. The XrD of ZrO2 films shows the films crystallized and exists in two phases at 700℃ calcinations temperature. The C–V characteristics of all the dielectric films that involved distinct inversion, depletion, and accumulation were clearly revealed in MIS structure. I-V characteristics of ZrO2 thin films on Si shows decreased saturation current on calcinations temperatures. The XPS measurement reveals that a zirconium silicate interfacial layer has formed in the ZrO2/Si Systems.

Effect of Time of Planting on Cane Yield and Quality Characters in Sweet Sorghum

Sweet sorghum unlike grain sorghum has potential to accumulate sugars in stalks similar to sugarcane. Short duration and lower water requirements of sweet sorghum are other advantages over sugarcane. Sorghum is usually grown in kharif and rabi seasons. As an energy crop, industry demands supply of green cane as raw material through out the year. Hence this agronomic study was conducted to determine suitable time of planting of sweet sorghum under the agro climatic conditions prevailing in India, so that continuous supply of raw material is assured for factory operations through out the year, especially during the lean period of sugarcane crushing. Various physical and chemical characters of plant and stem juice were studied by taking up bimonthly plantings at four locations using 12 genotypes of sweet sorghum in the first year and quarterly plantings at four locations using 10 genotypes (8 genotypes common in both years) in the second year. Of the six plantings, planting during August and April were found to be not suitable for good sweet sorghum yields, therefore, in the second year, four plantings were taken up i.e., June, October, December and February at six locations. The various attributes selected for observations include cane yield, percent brix of stem juice, percent juice extractability, percent total soluble sugars and reducing sugars in the stem juice. Highest green cane yield and percent juice extractability was observed in June planting in all genotypes followed by February, and December in both bimonthly and quarterly plantings. Juice extraction percentage was also highest in June plantings followed by October, April and December plantings. June plantings recorded highest percent brix followed by December and February plantings in bimonthly plantings, while in quarterly planting, highest percent brix and total sugars in juice was observed in February planting followed by planting in June.

Development and Validation of New rP-HPLC Method for the Estimation of Alfuzosin Hydrochloride in Bulk and Tablet Dosage Form

A reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic method (HPLC) has been developed for the estimation of Alfuzosin hydrochloride (ALH) in the pharmaceutical formulation using rP-C18 column. The mobile phase (Tetrahydrofuran, Acetonitrile and buffer (pH 3.50) was pumped at a flow rate of 1.5 ml/min in the ratio of 1:20:80 and the eluents were monitored at 254.0 nm. Linearity was obtained in the concentration range of 80 - 120 μg/mL for ALH. The method was statistically validated and rSD was found to be less than 2% indicating high degree of accuracy and precision of the proposed HPLC method. Due to its simplicity, rapidness, high precision and accuracy, the proposed HPLC method may be used for determination of Alfuzosin hydrochloride in bulk drugs and in pharmaceutical dosage form.
