The pancreas of Eutropis carinata was studied immunocytochemically for the presence and topographic distribution of glucagon and insulin cells during annual reproductive cycles. The study revealed paracrine arrangement of the two types of ceils. The immunolocalized pancreatic cells revealed significant differences in mean numbers during different periods of reproduction. The numbers of glucagon-immunoreactive （GIr） and insulin-immunoreactive （IIr） cells were highest during the recrudesceut period which corresponded with low serum glucose level. Between the two immunoreactive cells, the GIr cells were predominant. Morphological differences between the two cells were observed by electron microscopy after staining with uranyl acetate and lead citrate. Serum glucose showed that cyclic change was highest during the reproductive period.

The recovery of rare earth elements(rEEs) is a global challenge and the mining of rare earths has serious environmental implications due to the toxic waste released post mining.Hence,the rising demand for rare earths and their far reaching electronic applications necessitates an effective strategy to recover the rEEs from more viable sources.In this work,the graphene oxide-Aspergillus niger spores(GO-A.niger spores) blend was utilized for adsorptive recovery of a precious rare earth Eu(Ⅲ) and the adsorption variables like pH of the medium,adsorbent dosage,sorption kinetics,thermodynamics,and isotherm were optimized for the developed bioso rbent.The adsorption process suits the Langmuir isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 147.3 mg/g.The pseudo-second-order kinetics is a perfect fit to describe the adsorption process.The results obtained through the Van’t Hoff plot show negative free energy change(ΔG^(0)) which implies the spontaneity of the adsorption process.The negative standard enthalpy change(ΔH^(0)) values show that the nature of the adsorption process is exothermic.The analytical characterizations including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIr),raman,X-ray diffraction(XrD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET),thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA),and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX) were employed to study the biosorbent.The features of GO-A.niger spores biosorbent were applied to recover Eu(Ⅲ) from real samples such as fluorescent lamp phosphor,red phosphor powder,and a simulated radioactive waste solution.

The accelerated population growth of the elderly(individuals aged 60 years or more)across the globe has many indications,including changes in demography,health,the psycho-social milieu,and economic security.This transition has given rise to varied challenges;significant changes have been observed in regard to developing strategies for health care systems across the globe.The World Health Organization(WHO)is also engaging in initiatives and mediating processes.Furthermore,advocacy is being conducted regarding a shift toward the salutogenic model from the pathogenic model.The concept behind this move was to shift from disablement to enablement and from illness to wellness,with the notion of mental health promotion(MHP)being promoted.This article attempts to discuss the MHP of elderly individuals,with special reference to the need to disseminate knowledge and awareness in the community by utilizing the resources of the health sector available in the WHO South-East Asia region countries.We have tried to present the current knowledge gap by exploring the existing infrastructure,human resources,and financial resources.There is much to do to promote the mental health of the elderly,but inadequate facilities are available.Based on available resources,a roadmap for MHP in elderly individuals is discussed.

In the recent days, the segmentation of Liver Tumor (LT) has beendemanding and challenging. The process of segmenting the liver and accuratelyspotting the tumor is demanding due to the diversity of shape, texture, and intensity of the liver image. The intensity similarities of the neighboring organs of theliver create difficulties during liver segmentation. The manual segmentation doesnot provide an accurate segmentation because the results provided by differentmedical experts can vary. Also, this manual technique requires a large numberof image slices and time for segmentation. To solve these issues, the Fully Automatic Segmentation (FAS) technique is proposed. In this proposed Multi-AngleTexture Active Contour Model (MAT-ACM) method, the input Computed Tomography (CT) image is preprocessed by Contrast Enhancement (CE) with Non-Linear Mapping Technique (NLMT), in which the liver is differentiated from itsneighbouring soft tissues with related strength. Then, the filtered images are givenas the input to Adaptive Edge Modeling (AEM) with Canny Edge Detection(CED) technique, which segments the Liver region (Lr) from the given CTimages. An AEM with a CED model is implemented, which increases the convergence speed of the iterative process for decreasing the Volumetric Overlap Error(VOE) is 6.92% rates when compared with the traditional Segmentation Techniques (ST). Finally, the Liver Tumor Segmentation (LTS) is developed by applyingthe MAT-ACM, which accurately segments the Lr from the segmented Lrs. Theevaluation of the proposed method is compared with the existing LTS methodsusing various performance measures to prove the superiority of the proposedMAT-ACM method.

Butyrylcholinesterase(BChE;EC 3.***.1.8),an enzyme structurally related to acetylcholinesterase,is widely distributed in the human body.It plays a role in the detoxification of chemicals such as succinylcholine,a muscle relaxant used in anesthetic practice.BChE is well-known due to variant forms of the enzyme with little or no hydrolytic activity which exist in some endogamous communities and result in prolonged apnea following the administration of succinylcholine.Its other functions include the ability to hydrolyze acetylcholine,the cholinergic neurotransmitter in the brain,when its primary hydrolytic enzyme,acetylcholinesterase,is absent.To assess its potential roles,BChE was studied in relation to insulin resistance,type 2 diabetes mellitus,cognition,hepatic disorders,cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases,and inflammatory conditions.Individuals who lack the enzyme activity of BChE are otherwise healthy,until they are given drugs hydrolyzed by this enzyme.Therefore,BChE is a candidate for the study of loss-of-function mutations in humans.Studying individuals with variant forms of BChE can provide insights into whether they are protected against metabolic diseases.The potential utility of the enzyme as a biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease and the response to its drug treatment can also be assessed.

Objective： To identify the free radical scavenging activity of ethanolic extract of Evolvulus alsinoides. Methods： The free radical scavenging activity was evaluated by in vitro methods like reducing power assay, total antioxidant activity, 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl （DPPH） reduction, superoxide radical scavenging activity, 2,2＇-azinobis-（3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid）（ABTS＊） scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging assay, and nitric oxide radical scavenging assay, which were studied by using ascorbic acid as standard. results： The extract showed significant activities in all antioxidant assays compared with the reference antioxidant ascorbic acid. The total antioxidant activity as well as the reducing power was also found to increase in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion： Evolvulus alsinoides may act as a chemopreventive agent, providing antioxidant properties and offering effective protection from free radicals.

We present a novel approach for extracting noun phrases in general and named entities in particular from a digital repository of text documents.The problem of coreference resolution has been divided into two subproblems:pronoun resolution and non-pronominal resolution.A rule based-technique was used for pronoun resolution while a learning approach for nonpronominal resolution.For named entity resolution,disambiguation arises mainly due to polysemy and synonymy.The proposed approach fixes both problems with the help of WordNet and the Word Sense Disambiguation tool.The proposed approach,to our knowledge,outperforms several baseline techniques with a higher balanced F-measure,which is harmonic mean of recall and precision.The improvements in the system performance are due to the filtering of antecedents for the anaphor based on several linguistic disagreements,use of a hybrid approach,and increment in the feature vector to include more linguistic details in the learning technique.

Pulsed plate bioreactor （PPBr） is a biofilm reactor which has been proven to be very efficient in phenol biodegradation. The present paper reports the studies on the effect of dilution rate on the physical, chemical and morphological characteristics of biofilms formed by the cells of Pseudomonas desmolyticum on granular activated carbon （GAC） in PPBr during biodegradation of phenol. The percentage degradation of phenol decreased from 99% to 73% with an increase in dilution rate from 0.33 h^-1 to 0.99 h^-1 showing that residence time in the reactor governs the phenol removal efficiency rather than the external mass transfer limitations. Lower dilution rates favor higher production of biomass, extracellular polymeric substances （EPS） as well as the protein, carbohydrate and humic substances content of EPS. Increase in dilution rate leads to decrease in biofilm thickness, biofilm dry density, and attached dry biomass, transforming the biofilm from dense, smooth compact structure to a rough and patchy structure. Thus, the performance of PPBr in terms of dynamic and steady-state biofilm characteristics associated with phenol biodegradation is a strong function of dilution rate. Operation of PPBr at lower dilution rates is recommended for continuous biological treatment of wastewaters for phenol removal.

Helicoverpa armigera is a key pest in many vital crops, which is mainly controlled by chemical strategies, To manage this pest is becoming challenging due to its ability and evolution of resistance against insecticides. Further, its subsequent spread on nonhost plant is remarkable in recent times. Hence, decoding resistance mechanism against phytochemicals and synthetic insecticides is a major challenge. The present work describes that the digestion, defense and immunity related enzymes are associated with chlorpyrifos resistance in 11. armigera. Proteomic analysis of/-/, armigera gut tissue upon feeding on chlorpyrifos containing diet （CH） and artificial diet （AD） using nano-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry identified upregulated 23-proteins in CH fed larvae. Database searches combined with gene ontology analysis revealed that the identified gut proteins engrossed in digestion, proteins crucial for immunity, adaptive responses to stress, and detoxification. Biochemical and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction anal- ysis of candidate proteins indicated that insects were struggling to get nutrients and energy in presence of CH, while at the same time endeavoring to metabolize chlorpyrifos. More- over, we proposed a potential processing pathway of chlorpyrifos in H. armigera gut by examining the metabolites using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. 1f. armigera exhibit a range of intriguing behavioral, morphological adaptations and resistance to in- secticides by regulating expression of proteins involved in digestion and detoxification mechanisms to cope up with chlorpyrifos. In these contexts, as gut is a rich repository of biological information; profound analysis of gut tissues can give clues of detoxification and resistance mechanism in insects.

Structure-assisted reverse chemical discovery approaches are becoming attractive due to target based screening.However,Small molecules(SMs)identified by reverse chemical genetic approach require robust phenotyping assays to study the plant responses.We optimized a screening method in rice seedlings using methyl viologen(MV)induced oxidative stress under high light conditions.This method was suitable for studying the efficacy of SM targeting oxidative stress related genes.Structure-assisted drug designing approach was used to identify SM targeting DrEB2A transcription factor(TF).rice seedlings treated with pronetalol showed susceptible phenotype when exposed to oxidative stress.Pronetalol inhibited the DrEB2A activity and suppressed the expression of its target LEA7 and HSFA3 genes under oxidative stress.The assay is quite simple and robust and can be expanded to high throughput screening method for functional validation of TF.
