Modern medicine is reliant on various medical imaging technologies for non-invasively observing patients’***,the interpretation of medical images can be highly subjective and dependent on the expertise of ***,some potentially useful quantitative information in medical images,especially that which is not visible to the naked eye,is often ignored during clinical *** contrast,radiomics performs high-throughput feature extraction from medical images,which enables quantitative analysis of medical images and prediction of various clinical *** have reported that radiomics exhibits promising performance in diagnosis and predicting treatment responses and prognosis,demonstrating its potential to be a non-invasive auxiliary tool for personalized ***,radiomics remains in a developmental phase as numerous technical challenges have yet to be solved,especially in feature engineering and statistical *** this review,we introduce the current utility of radiomics by summarizing research on its application in the diagnosis,prognosis,and prediction of treatment responses in patients with *** focus on machine learning approaches,for feature extraction and selection during feature engineering and for imbalanced datasets and multi-modality fusion during statistical ***,we introduce the stability,reproducibility,and interpretability of features,and the generalizability and interpretability of ***,we offer possible solutions to current challenges in radiomics research.

Development of Extraction and Detection Method for a Chemotherapeutic Drug with Phenytoin in Biological Samples

Dexamethasone is classified as a corticosteroid and is commonly used among cancer patients to decrease the amount of swelling around the tumor. Among patients with cancer, in particular brain tumors, seizures can become a daily routine in their everyday lives. To counteract the seizures, an antiepileptic drug such as phenytoin is administered to act as an anticonvulsant. Phenytoin and dexamethasone are frequently administrated concurrently to brain cancer patients. A previous study has shown that phenytoin serum concentration decreases when administrated concurrently with dexamethasone. Thus, it is important to monitor the concentration of these two drugs in biological samples to ensure that the proper dosages are administrated to the patients. This study aims to develop an effective extraction and detection method for dexamethasone and phenytoin. A reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method with UV/Vis detection has been developed to separate phenytoin and dexamethasone at 219 nm and 241 nm respectively from urine samples. The mobile phase consists of a mixture of 0.01 M KH2PO4, acetonitrile, and methanol adjusted to pH 5.6 (48:32:20) and is pumped at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Calibration curves were prepared for phenytoin and dexamethasone (r2 > 0.99). An efficient solid-phase extraction (SPE) method for the extraction of dexamethasone and phenytoin from urine samples was developed with the use of C-18 cartridges. The percent recovery for phenytoin and dexamethasone is 95.4% (RSD = 1.15%) and 81.1% (RSD = 3.56%) respectively.

Two-step exhumation of Caucasian intraplate rifts:A proxy of sequential plate-margin collisional orogenies

Prevalence of Enteric Pathogens Associated with Infections among Table Egg Consumers in Some Primary Health Establishments in the Center Region of Cameroon

Method: In Cameroon limited data are available regarding the prevalence of enteric bacteria associated with table egg consuming infections. As such, a situational-based study was performed in patients with complains of stomach disorders after egg consumption. Data related to sociodemographic characteristics and other factors were collected using a structured based questionnaire. Stool culture of utmost importance in stomach disorders patients and serum were collected for typhoid serological test. Results: A total of 207 participants took part in the survey, Results indicated nontyphoidal Salmonella infections were highest in the 3 areas of study with Mfoundi (73.44%) having the highest level of infection compared to other bacterial infection. other enteric bacteria associated to this infection were E. coli serotype 157, Aeromonas, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloaca and typhi salmonella. Meanwhile salmonelosis caused by typhic salmonella had highest prevalence in the Lekie Division (13.11%) as a result of poor hygienic practices associated with the conservation and preparation of eggs, Stool culture was observed to detect more positive cases in the diagnosis of typhoid fever than Widal test, but with no statistically significant (p > 0.05) difference between the stool culture and Widal test in the 3 areas of study. Conclusion: this study revealed that egg consumers are pruned to enteric bacterial and salmonella infections depending on how and where egg is consumed.

Bacterial populations isolated from treated soil,artificially contaminated with lead(Pb)and cadmium(Cd)and undergoing a phytoremediation process were studied to determine their potential application in soil *** physicochemical parameters evaluated in the soil varied *** bacterial strains were selected from each polluted soil to test tolerance and growth in contaminated *** concentrations of heavy metals tested were 1,000 ppm for lead and 850 ppm for *** strains were morphologically identified through Gram *** strains showing the most significant growth in both contaminants were then selected to verify their tolerance to different concentrations of heavy *** results demonstrated that the selected bacteria have high tolerance to Pb,resisting inhibition up to 2,000 *** contrast,strains exposed to cadmium tended to slow their growth as the concentration increased.

Comparative Study of the Widal Test against Stool Culture in the Diagnosis of Suspected Cases of Typhoid Fever in Some Low Income Communities in the Adamawa Region of Cameroon

Introduction: Infectious diseases constitute a major concern of public health in developing countries. Facilities and well trained staff have been shown to be one of the major obstacles in the rapid and quality diagnosis of these diseases. As such, we carried out an analysis to compare the Widal test and stool culture to identify febrile patients with Salmonella infection. Method: A cross sectional study was conducted to diagnose salmonella infection with out-patients who demonstrated signs of salmonella infection. Serum was harvested from blood collected from 368 (Vina = 234, Mayo Banyo 65, and Djerem = 69) patients accompanied by stool, Widal test was conducted on the spot and stool was taken to a reference laboratory for culture using standard microbiological methods, sociological set up was calculated in percentages, prevalence was calculated using excel while statistical difference was calculated using SPSS. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated to compare the Widal test against stool culture. Results: A total of 368 (50.8% females and 49.2% males) participants took part in the survey. Salmonella prevalence (66.24%) in stool culture in the Vina division was significantly different (p 0.05). The sensitivity,specificity, PPV, and NPV of slide agglutination test against stool culture varied from different areas (Vina: 51.6%, 73.62%, 79.21% and 43.61%;Mayo Banyo: 60.53%, 77.78%, 79.31% and 58.33%;Djerem: 53.18%, 83.73% 73.91% and 67.39%) respectively. Slide agglutination test has a fair agreement with the stool culture (kappa, Vina = 0.202;Mayo Banyo = 0.37 and Djerem = 0.38). Conclusion: Generally, in the three areas of study, the Widal test had a fair correlation with the stool culture;This means the Widal test should not be used alone but in combination with stool culture in the detection of salmonella infections.

An interpretable model for large-scale smart contract vulnerability detection

Smart contracts hold billions of dollars in digital currency, and their security vulnerabilities have drawn a lot of attention in recent years. Traditional methods for detecting smart contract vulnerabilities rely primarily on symbol execution, which makes them time-consuming with high false positive rates. Recently, deep learning approaches have alleviated these issues but still face several major limitations, such as lack of interpretability and susceptibility to evasion techniques. In this paper, we propose a feature selection method for uplifting modeling. The fundamental concept of this method is a feature selection algorithm, utilizing interpretation outcomes to select critical features, thereby reducing the scales of features. The learning process could be accelerated significantly because of the reduction of the feature size. The experiment shows that our proposed model performs well in six types of vulnerability detection. The accuracy of each type is higher than 93% and the average detection time of each smart contract is less than 1 ms. Notably, through our proposed feature selection algorithm, the training time of each type of vulnerability is reduced by nearly 80% compared with that of its original. © 2024 The Author(s)

The Burden of Undiagnosed Hypertension and Associated Risk Factors among Adults in a Rural Community in Imo Sate, South-East Nigeria

Background: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally and hypertension is a major contributor to this burden. Many people with hypertension have poorly controlled blood pressure and up to half of the adults with hypertension are unaware of their hypertensive status due to factors that bother on poor management and poor screening approaches. The implication is that people who have poor access to healthcare especially those in the rural communities are at increased risk of cardiovascular complications and all-cause mortality. Unfortunately, not much has been done to ascertain the burden of undiagnosed hypertension and associated risk factors in rural communities in Nigeria. Methods: We conducted a community-based cross-sectional study in a rural community in Imo State, Nigeria, on burden of undiagnosed hypertension with participants recruited via a multi-stage sampling method. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used, and standardized instruments were applied to obtain, process and analyze the data. Tests of association between the independent variables and outcome were conducted using logistic regression. P-value of Results: A total of 380 adults participated in the study. The mean age was 44.2 years. The prevalence of undiagnosed hypertension was 35.8%. Logistic regression revealed that age, with the respondents in the age groups 26 - 35 years (OR = 10.647, 1.910 - 59.345, p-value = 0.007), 36 - 45 (OR = 3.680, 1.263 - 10.723, p-value = 0.017), 46 - 55 years (OR = 2.737, 1.114 - 6.727, p-value = 0.039), 56 - 65 years old (OR = 3.384, 1.610 - 7.115, p-value = 0.001);and being married (OR = 3.846, 1.118 - 13.233, p-value = 0.033), were independent risk factors for undiagnosed hypertension. Conclusion: The prevalence of undiagnosed hypertension in the rural population of South-East Nigeria is high. Younger age (26 - 35 years) had the highest odds of risk for occurrence of hypertension.
