Association of Helicobacter pylori infection and giardiasis: Results from a study of surrogate markers for fecal exposure among children

AIM: To investigate whether Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection is associated with hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection, presence of enteroparasites, and other surrogates of fecal exposure. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 121 children consecutively admitted at a pediatric hospital in Salvador, Brazil. H pyloriand HAV infection were identified by the presence of serum antibodies. Stool specimens were examined for the presence of ova and parasites. A structured questionnaire inquiring about sanitary conditions and life style was applied to each subject. RESULTS: Fifty-one of the 121 children (42.1%) were found to be seropositive for H pylori, and 45 (37.2%) for HAV. The seroprevalence of Hpyloriand HAV both increased significantly with age. cross-tabulation of data showed that 26 (21.5%) were seropositive and 51 (42.1%) were negative for both H py/lriand HAV antibodies (x^2=7.18, OR=2.8, cI 1.30-5.97). The age adjusted OR for an HAV-infected child being H pylori positive was 2.3 (cI 1.02-5.03). The agreement between H pylori and HAV seropositivity was fair (k=0.24). After controlling for possible confounding, the variables remaining independently associated with seropositivity to H pylori were age, presence of Giardia lamblia in feces (OR=3.2, 95%cI, 1.1-9.5) and poor garbage disposal quality (OR=2.4, 95%cI, 1.1-5.1). cONcLUSION: Our data suggest that H pylori infection is associated with surrogate markers of fecal exposure. Thus, we conclude that the fecal-oral route is relevant in the transmission of HP among children in an urban setting of a developing country. The association observed between G. lamblia and H pylori infection may have several explanations. Further studies to investigate this relationship are warranted.

For modern nations, a healthy agricultural sector provides the necessary foundation for the economic growth and social progress that enhance their citizens’ quality of life. Historically, agriculture education has been a dynamic and growing facet of career and technical education in the United States. currently, however, public policy and support for agriculture education is negatively impacted by a national attitude that devalues agriculture education and perceives it as less desirable than a four-year college degree. This paper considers the history, scope, and current status of agriculture education in the context of increasing worldwide demand for agricultural products and rapidly changing technology.

Arm PSA-certified IoT chip Security: A case Study

With the large scale adoption of Internet of Things(IoT)applications in people’s lives and industrial manufacturing processes,IoT security has become an important problem *** security significantly relies on the security of the underlying hardware chip,which often contains critical information,such as encryption *** understand existing IoT chip security,this study analyzes the security of an IoT security chip that has obtained an Arm Platform Security Architecture(PSA)Level 2 *** analysis shows that the chip leaks part of the encryption key and presents a considerable security ***,we use commodity equipment to collect electromagnetic traces of the *** a statistical T-test,we find that the target chip has physical leakage during the AES encryption *** further use correlation analysis to locate the detailed encryption interval in the collected electromagnetic trace for the Advanced Encryption Standard(AES)encryption *** the basis of the intermediate value correlation analysis,we recover half of the 16-byte AES encryption *** repeat the process for three different tests;in all the tests,we obtain the same result,and we recover around 8 bytes of the 16-byte AES encryption ***,experimental results indicate that despite the Arm PSA Level 2 certification,the target security chip still suffers from physical *** layer application developers should impose strong security mechanisms in addition to those of the chip itself to ensure IoT application security.

The spatial variability of actual evapotranspiration across the Amazon River Basin based on remote sensing products validated with flux towers

Actual evapotranspiration(ET)is a major component of the water *** several international flux measurement programs have been executed in the tropical rain forest of the Amazon,those measurements represent the evaporative process at a few selected sites *** aim of this study is to obtain the spatial distribution of ET,using remote sensing techniques,across the entire Amazon River *** from six global ET products based on remote sensing techniques(GLEAM,SEBS,ALEXI,cMRSET,MOD16,and SSEBop)were merged to obtain an ensemble prediction of the ET rates for the complex and in-accessible environment of the Amazon at a spatial resolution of 250 *** study shows that the basinwide average ET is 1316 mm/year with a standard deviation of 192 mm/*** new ET-Amazon product was validated against seven different historic flux tower *** energy balance closure of the in situ measurements varied between 86 and 116%.Only months with more than 70%completeness of in situ measurements were considered for *** procedures for closure correction were included in the *** correlation between measured and remotely sensed ET is good(R2>0.97 for consecutive periods of 2 to 12months),and the bias correction is negligible for the energy balance residual method,which seemed most *** ET values have more *** monthly RMSE values vary between 7.4 and 27.8 mm/month(the average RMSE is 22.2mm/month),and the coefficient of determination(R2)varies between 0.48 and 0.87(the average R2 is 0.53).The ET from the water balance is 1380 mm/year,being−64 mm/year difference and 4.6%less than ET derived from the water *** evaporation from the Amazon basin inside Brazil is 5063 km3/year,followed by Peru with 1165 km3/***-Amazon shows more spatial details and accuracy than alternative global ET products such as LandFlux-EVAL,Model Tree Ensemble(MTE),and *** justifies the development of new regional ET pro

Passive acoustic monitoring is emerging as a promising solution to the urgent, global need for new biodiversity assessment methods. The ecological relevance of the soundscape is increasingly recognised, and the affordability of robust hardware for remote audio recording is stimulating international interest in the potential for acoustic methods for biodiversity *** scale of the data involved requires automated methods,however, the development of acoustic sensor networks capable of sampling the soundscape across time and space and relaying the data to an accessible storage location remains a significant technical challenge, with power management at its core. Recording and transmitting large quantities of audio data is power intensive,hampering long-term deployment in remote, off-grid locations of key ecological interest. Rather than transmitting heavy audio data, in this paper, we propose a low-cost and energy efficient wireless acoustic sensor network integrated with edge computing structure for remote acoustic monitoring and in situ *** and computation of acoustic indices are carried out directly on edge devices built from low noise primo condenser microphones and Teensy microcontrollers, using internal FFT hardware support. Resultant indices are transmitted over a ZigBee-based wireless mesh network to a destination *** tests of audio quality, indices computation and power consumption demonstrate acoustic equivalence and significant power savings over current solutions.

Tree phenology along a successional gradient of tropical Atlantic Forest

Aims changes in habitat characteristics and species composition in suc-cessional gradients could determine temporal variation in phenol-ogy of second-growth *** evaluated phenological patterns in tree species occurring in successional forests in southern Brazil,aiming to assess community changes along *** tested for general patterns and phenophase seasonality of trees of forests in successional stages and for differences in occurrence,concentra-tion,frequency and duration of *** Vegetative(flushing and leaf-fall)and reproductive(flowering and fruiting)phenophases of 149 individuals of 29 tree species were monitored monthly,for 2 years,in a successional gradient:early-(~10 years),mid-(~30 years)and late-successional(>80 years)forests in southern *** Findings Forests in the successional gradient exhibited shared frequency and duration of phenological phases,probably due to climatic or historical constraints in ***,we found differences in the rate of occurrence and concentration of phenological phases,suggesting that habitat changes caused by succession and species turnover are additional factors affecting phenological patterns in tropical forests.

Based upon the powerful Hirota method for unearthing soliton solutions to nonlinear partial differential evolution equations,we investigate the scattering properties of a new coupled integrable dispersionless system while surveying the interactions between its self-confined travelling wave *** a result,we ascertain three types of scattering features depending strongly upon a characteristic *** such findings to depict soliton solutions with nonzero angular momenta,we derive an extended form of the dispersionless system,which is valuable for further physical applications.

Throughout its lifetime,high-voltage circuit breaker(HVcB)contacts suffer from inevitable degradation processes,especially during the formation of electric *** degraded contacts can reduce the current interruption capacity and increase the chances of operational faults,which might lead to considerable financial ***,the use of efficient evaluating techniques is a key factor to achieve systems *** dynamic resistance measurement(DRM)is a technique that can be used to evaluate the degradation level of HVcB'*** stands out from the usual technique,static resistance measurement,by allowing the assessment of both the main contacts and the arcing contacts(Acs).Usually,the mean resistance or the area under the DRM curve is used to estimate the Ac ***,DRM is a non-standardised technique and there are no specified parameters to evaluate the real wear ***,an analysis of alternative parameters extractible from the DRM technique is presented in this study,such as amplitude and variance of the DRM *** results attest the possible use of more than one parameter for the continuous evaluation of HVcB Acs,characterising the DRM as a more complete and precise diagnosis tool.
