Wea. tests were ca.ried out to study the effect of the ha.dness a.d roughness with va.ious counterfa.e ma.eria.s on UHMWPE wea. beha.iour. The ma.eria.s used a. counterfa.es were ba.ed on va.ieties of CoCrMo: 1) forged (ha.d-polished) CoCrMo, 2) forged (ma.s-finished) CoCrMo, a.d 3) ca.t (ma.s-finished) CoCrMo. a.ditiona.ly, two coa.ings were proposed: 1) a.CoCrMo coa.ing a.plied to the forged CoCrMo a.loy by mea.s of physica. va.our deposition (PVD), a.d 2) a.ZrO2 coa.ing a.plied to the forged CoCrMo a.loy by mea.s of pla.ma.a.sisted chemica. va.our deposition (Pa.VD). The reciproca.ing pin-on-fla. (RPOF) device for pin-on-disk wea. testing wa. used for this study. The worn surfa.es were observed using optica., a.omic force a.d sca.ning electron microscopes.
