What is the difference between marine and limnetic-terrestrial associations of nematodes with invertebrates?

Zoo-and phyto-parasitic nematodes of the order Rhabditida and zooparasites of the subclass Dorylaimia are well known,due largely to their medical,veterinarian and agricultural ***,there have been many switches from a free-living to a symbiotic(including parasitism)mode of existence in the evolutionary trajectories of various nematode ***,we attempt to summarize all known cases of symbioses(from commensalism to true parasitism)between marine nematodes representing nonparasitic taxa and various larger animals,ranging from protists to *** cases are of nematodes relating to dwelling on crustaceans(ectocommensalism)or living in the body cavity and internal organs of various invertebrates(endoparasitism or parasitoidism).Ectocommensal species may differ from their free-living relatives in their longer filiform bodies and enlarged ventral and caudal glands,which may be interpreted as adaptations for the purpose of fixation on the body surface of a motile *** species are characterized by deep anatomical modification,including rudimentation of the alimentary tract and hypertrophy of reproductive *** terrestrial and limnetic invertebrates,marine invertebrates have almost no intestinal nematode *** evolutionary trajectories of nematode dwellers of marine and nonmarine invertebrates are compared.

On-chip excitation of single germanium vacancies in nanodiamonds embedded in plasmonic waveguides

Monolithic integration of quantum emitters in nanoscale plasmonic circuitry requires low-loss plasmonic configurations capable of confining light well below the diffraction *** demonstrated on-chip remote excitation of nanodiamond-embedded single quantum emitters by plasmonic modes of dielectric ridges atop colloidal silver *** nanodiamonds were produced to incorporate single germanium-vacancy(GeV)centres,providing bright,spectrally narrow and stable single-photon sources suitable for highly integrated *** electron-beam lithography with hydrogen silsesquioxane(HSQ)resist,dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides(DLSPPWs)were fabricated on single crystalline silver plates to contain those of deposited nanodiamonds that are found to feature appropriate single GeV *** low-loss plasmonic configuration enabled the 532-nm pump laser light to propagate on-chip in the DLSPPW and reach to an embedded nanodiamond where a single GeV centre was *** remote GeV emitter was thereby excited and coupled to spatially confined DLSPPW modes with an outstanding figure-of-merit of 180 due to a~six-fold Purcell enhancement,~56%coupling efficiency and~33μm transmission length,thereby opening new avenues for the implementation of nanoscale functional quantum devices.

Social structure and space use of Amur tigers(Panthera tigris altaica)in Southern Russian Far East based on GPS telemetry data

To better understand the spatial structure of Amur tigers(Panthera tigris altaica)at the southern edge of their range we fitted 14 tigers(6♀♀and 8♂♂)with 15 GPS-Argos collars between 2008 and 2011 in 2 study sites:the Ussuriskii Reserve of southern Sikhote-Alin and the Land of the Leopard national Park in southwest Primorye,Russian Far *** kernel estimates of male home ranges were larger than those of female home ranges(Pn 95%fixed kernel♀=401±205 km2;mean 95%fixed kernel♂=778±267 km2]).The home range size of females varied greatly,but on average was similar to estimates derived from earlier work further *** overlap of adjacent home ranges suggested that females retained exclusive *** core areas of females overlapped only slightly,and remained stable over multiple *** home ranges of adult males were smaller than those of males to the north,and in contrast to previous studies,high overlap among males indicated the absence of ***,real core areas of males did not overlap,suggesting some spatial *** comparison to other tiger populations and other areas of the Russian Far East,the sex ratio in our 2 study areas was highly skewed towards *** believe this skewed sex ratio resulted in the dissolution of territoriality of males due to an inability to defend individual females,with males resorting to scramble competition for *** monitoring of these sites to determine whether shifts in the sex ratio might result in a return to male territoriality would provide confirmation of our tentative hypothesis.

The existence of a trans-boundary population of the snow leopard(Panthera uncia)that inhabits the massifs of Tsagaanshuvuut(Mongolia)-Tsagan-Shibetu(Russia)was determined through non-invasive genetic analysis of scat samples and by studying the structure of territory use by a collared female *** genetic analysis included species identification of samples through sequencing of a fragment of the cytochrome b gene and individual identification using a panel of 8 *** home range of a female snow leopard marked with a satellite Global Positioning System(GPS)collar was represented by the minimum convex polygon method(MCP)100,the MCP 95 method and the fixed kernel 95 *** results revealed insignificant genetic differentiation between snow leopards that inhabit both massifs(minimal fixation index[FST]),and the data testify to the unity of the cross-border ***,5 common individuals were identified from Mongolian and Russian *** finding clearly shows that their home range includes territories of both *** addition,regular movement of a collared snow leopard in Mongolia and Russia confirmed the existence of a cross-border snow leopard *** data support that trans-boundary conservation is important for snow leopards in both *** conclude that it is crucial for Russia to study the northern range of snow leopards in Asia.
