Cancer cells are highly proliferative,invasive,metastatic and initiate *** activities demand plentiful energy and bountiful stores of anabolic precursors,a situation that puts significant strain on metabolic pathways and necessitates juggling of finite ***,the location and erratic structural organisation of tumours means they reside in a nutrient-poor *** glycolytic phenotype has evolved in cancer cells to provide a suitable balance between bioenergetic and biosynthetic *** this adopted strategy also support the overexpression of an ATP-dependent transporter(P-glycoprotein)to maintain resistance against chemotherapy?This article highlights the metabolic adaptations used by cancer cells to maintain both a glycolytic phenotype and sustain the activity of *** argue that these cells negotiate an energy precipice to achieve these ***,we advocate the use of compounds that place resistant cells expressing P-glycoprotein under further metabolic strain and how uncoupling protein-2 may provide an ideal target for them.

Background: Malaria and typhoid have remained major infectious tropical diseases. Clinically, whenever there is severe malaria, cough is always an associating symptom owing to typhoid infection arising from poor hygiene in respect to drinking water and food. There is a strong association between human blood group and disease. Residual malaria transmission, effect of climate change on malaria vector composition, environmental management targeted at malaria breeding control as an intervention strategy are areas of interest to WHO in malaria control in Sub-saharan Africa. A body of data is been built on susceptibility of human blood groups to malaria, HIV and HBV and presently malaria and typhoid. If climate change warrants a change in composition of vectors and as well resistance to ACT therapy, the susceptibility or vulnerability of the human blood group is also called to question. The link between susceptibility of human blood group to malaria and typhoid has not been previously investigated. Purpose: The present study assesses the genetic disposition (susceptibility of human blood groups and abo analysis) to malaria and typhoid infections. Patients and Methods: One hundred (100) patients were screened for malaria and typhoid infections in a tertiary health facility—His glory hospital Lagos, Nigeria. Blood samples were collected by venu-puncture from 53 females and 47 males adults aged between 15 – 47 years, who were infected either singly or coinfected with malaria and typhoid. Microscopic detection of P. falciparum, widal serological technique for salmonella antibody presence and genotypic determination were all done using standard WHO methods. Human material or data were analyzed or performed in accordance with the declaration of Helsinki (2000). Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common form of chronic liver disease in the United States affecting 80–100 million Americans. NAFLD encompasses a spectrum of diseases ranging from excess liver fat (nonalcoholic fatty liver or NAFL), to necro-inflammation (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis or NASH), to fibrosis/ cirrhosis, and malignant transformation (hepatocellular carcinoma). Susceptibility to NAFLD is highly variable and it remains unclear why some patients with NAFLD exhibit NASH, whereas patients with known risk factors have NAFL only. The reasons for this variability can be a partially attributed to differences in genetic background. In the last decade, there have been multiple genome wide association studies, which have enriched our understanding of the genetic basis of NAFLD. The I148M PNPLA3 (patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3) variant has been identified as the major common genetic determinant of NAFLD. Variants with moderate effect size like TM6SF2, MBOAT7 and GCKR have also been shown to have a significant contribution. New research has uncovered major pathways leading to disease development and progression;therefore, multiple medications are being developed and tested for the treatment of advanced NAFLD. These agents target metabolic mechanisms as well as inflammation and fibrosis pathways. Several randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are evaluating the efficacy of these novel agents on histological improvement of disease severity and decreasing liver-related outcomes. FDA-approved medications for NASH and NASH-related fibrosis are expected by 2020.

Black flies are ubiquitous and important members of lotic *** is known to affect many aspects of their life in the aquatic larval stage,including intraspecific competition for feeding *** filter feeders,flow affects their ability to feed and reach sufficiently fast ***,in turn,can lead to risky fluid-mediated disper-sal behavior in search of better *** is surprising,therefore,that little information is available regard-ing how physiological and environmental factors combine to affect larval growth *** present study deter-mines the relative growth rates of small(0.6 mm)and large(approximately 4 mm)larvae in laboratory flumes designed to produce spatially homogeneous and temporally consistent flow regimes at ecologically relevant ve-locities(44 and 64 cm/s).Our results indicate that size and flow both influence growth rates and that the 2 in-teract *** larvae exhibit faster growth rates and a greater positive response to increased flow *** result might help explain why smaller larvae have a greater propensity to disperse than larger lar-vae:the benefit of increased growth rate that they receive from relocating to faster flow might balance the risks inherent in dispersal.

The application of non-linear loads in the power electronic device causes serious harmonic issues in the power system since it has the intrinsic prop-erty of retrieving harmonic current and reactive power from Alternating Current(AC)supply that leads to voltage *** maintain a reliable powerﬂow in the power system,an innovative Uniﬁed Power Flow Converter(UPFC)is uti-lized in this proposed *** conventional series converter is replaced with the Modular Multilevel Converter(MMC)that improves the power handling capability and achieves higher modular level with minimized *** shunt compensator assists in minimizing the voltageﬂuctuations and maximizing the voltage stability under different load *** Direct Quadrature(DQ)theory is utilized in this study to separate the harmonic components by generating reference frame *** Proportional Integral(PI)controller aids in maintain-ing the direct current potential difference in the constant mode whereas the Pulse Width Modulation(PWM)generator helps in delivering optimized output to the *** gain parameters of PI controller are optimized with the aid of employ-ing Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO).The entire work is validated using MATLAB simulink and the obtained outcomes proves that this new UPFC is highly beneﬁcial in minimizing the distortions with reduced Total Harmonic Distortion(THD)of 2.21%.

In recent years,there has been a significant increase in the number of people suffering from eye illnesses,which should be treated as soon as possible in order to avoid *** Fundus images are employed for this purpose,as well as for analysing eye abnormalities and diagnosing eye *** can be recognised as bright lesions in fundus pictures,which can be thefirst indicator of diabetic *** that in mind,the purpose of this work is to create an Integrated Model for Exudate and Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis(IM-EDRD)with multi-level *** model uses Support Vector Machine(SVM)-based classification to separate normal and abnormal fundus images at thefirst *** input pictures for SVM are pre-processed with Green Channel Extraction and the retrieved features are based on Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix(GLCM).Furthermore,the presence of Exudate and Diabetic Retinopathy(DR)in fundus images is detected using the Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)classifier at the second level of *** detection,blood vessel extraction,and Optic Disc(OD)detection are all processed to achieve suitable ***,the second level processing comprises Morphological Component Analysis(MCA)based image enhancement and object segmentation processes,as well as feature extraction for training the ANFIS classifier,to reliably diagnose ***,thefindings reveal that the proposed model surpasses existing models in terms of accuracy,time efficiency,and precision rate with the lowest possible error rate.
