Vegan consumers look for fresh,tasty,and nutritious products that use eco/animal-friendly *** are substrates selectively utilized by host microorganisms conferring a health *** study aimed to overview the potentially vegan products added with prebiotics,their health benefits,and the main technological and sensory *** main potentially vegan products added with prebiotics studied were based on water-soluble plant-based extracts(fermented beverages,frozen desserts,cheese analog),fruits(fruit juices,fruit jelly,and ready to eat fruits),and cereals(snack bars,granola bars,bread,and cookies).The main prebiotic compounds used were inulin,fructooligosaccharides,oligofructose,polydextrose,and *** effects of prebiotic on food products’,host health,and technological and sensory properties depended on the prebiotic type and dosage,food matrix,and subject *** positive health effects were related to skin health,gut microbiota improvement,hypocholesterolemic impact,reduction of the risk of metabolic diseases,and improvements in postprandial blood glucose and insulin *** could improve vegan products’technological and sensory properties,such as fermentation time,texture and rheological properties,storage length,sensory acceptance,and probiotic ***,they could increase the concentration and/or bioaccessibility of phenolic compounds and ***,it is of paramount importance the determination of prebiotic *** trends direct to new prebiotic compounds based on microalgae,fruit and cereal by-products,and *** review provides industries and researchers with important information about prebiotics and vegan products.

Objective:Young people with congenital heart disease(CHD)are at increased risk of psychosocial issues,includ-ing anxiety and depression that can affect their medical care and quality of *** open trial investigated the acceptability,feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of YouthCHAT,a tablet-based screener,designed to identify similar issues to a face to face psychosocial assessment,with young people who have ***:Youth-CHAT was administered to 44 such young people aged 15–25 years attending a specialist outpatient clinic at a New Zealand tertiary *** outcomes were(i)acceptability and(ii)feasibility of YouthCHAT,assessed via feedback from young people and clinicians and(iii)detection rates for each domain of YouthCHAT,measured by mental health or lifestyle issue being‘present’or‘absent’.Results:YouthCHAT was quick to complete(mean 9 min and 7 s)and well-received by young people(overall rating 7 out of 10)and *** of anxiety,substance use and other issues were similar to those in a previous study of young people with mixed long-term physical ***,rates of depression(41%)and life stresses(98%)were notably ***:Although further research is required,our results provide initial evidence that YouthCHAT is a viable and accep-table psychosocial screener with which to improve the holistic care of young people with CHD.

Ectopic odontomas are a rare disease process and need to be in the differential of the Otolaryngologist and Radiologist. Previous reports reveal the most common location to be the maxilla. We present a rare case of odontoma involving a turbinate causing nasal obstruction and foul-smelling rhinorrhea. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice with an endoscopic approach, if feasible.

A theoretical model for the propagation of acoustic waves in dry granular media is presented within the framework of the nonlinear granular elasticity. An essential ingredient is the dependence of the elastic moduli on compression. For the purpose of illustration, we analyze the case of a time-harmonic plane wave propagation under isotropic compression. We derive explicit relations for the wave speed dependence with the confining pressure. The present approach provides an accurate description of acoustic wave propagation in granular packings and represents a powerful tool to interpret the results of current experiments.

We investigated the effects of elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) on biogeochemistry of marsh sediment including speciation of selected heavy metals in Salinas de San Pedro mudflat in California. The Salinas de San Pedro mudflat has higher carbon (C) content than the vast majority of fully-vegetated salt marshes even with the higher tidal action in the mudflat. Sources for CO2 were identified as atmospheric CO2 as well as due to local fault degassing process. We measured carbon dioxide, methane, total organic carbon, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and heavy metal concentration in various salt marsh locations. Overall, our results showed that CO2 concentration ranging from 418.7 to 436.9 (ppm), which are slightly different in various chambers but are in good agreement with some heavy metal concentrations values in mudflat at or around the same location. The selected metal concentration values (ppm) ranging from 0.003 - 0.011 (As);0.001 - 0.005 (Cd);0.04 - 0.02 (Cr);0.13 - 0.38 (Cu);0.11 - 0.38 (Pb);0.0009 - 0.020 (Se);and 0.188 - 0.321 (Zn). The low dissolved oxygen (ppm) in the pore water sediment indicated suboxic environment. Additionally, CO2 (ppm) and loss on ignition (LOI) (%) correlated inversely;the higher CO2 content, the lower was the LOI (%);that is to say the excess CO2 causes higher rates of decomposition and therefore it leads to lower LOI (%) on the mudflat surface. It appears that the elevated CO2 makes changes in salt marsh pore water chemistry for instance the free ionic metal (Cu2+, Pb2+, etc.) speciation is one of the most reactive form because simply assimilated by the non-decayed or alive organisms in sediment of salt marsh and/or in water. This means that CO2 not only is a sign of improvement in plant productivity, but also activates microbial decomposition through increases in dissolved organic carbon availability. The present study reports bioactive constituents from biquinho pepper,such as carotenoids,capsaicinoids,and capsinoids,identified by *** pepper extract showed an antioxidant potential by DPPH(33.17±0.08%),ORAC(32.35±0.02μM TE/g),β-carotene/linoleic acid(55.80±1.30%),and FRAP(315.88±4.23μmol TE/g)***,in vivo antioxidant analyses demonstrated that the pepper extract(170μg/mL)decreased the damage promoted by H_(2)O_(2) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae *** balls were prepared using different concentrations of pepper(0.0%,0.5%,0.75%,1.0%)to investigate its antioxidant effect during frozen *** pepper effectively reduced the formation of cholesterol oxides and preserved essential fatty acids,mainly in samples containing 1.0%of ***,this treatment was more efficient than sodium erythorbate(p0.8).

This study investigated the protective effects of secondary bacterial metabolites, produced by Pseudomonas sp. (bacterium strain LN), on citrus canker disease caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Xac 306). The LN bacteria strain was cultured in liquid medium and the supernatant free-cells was treated with methanol (AMF) and ethyl acetate (AEF), respectively, and then the extract was concentrated, filtrated, lyophilized and fractionated by vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC). After VLC, eight fractions were obtained. All fractions’ activity against Xac 306 by agar well diffusion assay and minimum inhibitory concentration but in different concentrationswere tested. Cytotoxicity effects were observed in all fractions in 50 μg·mL-1 concentration. The comet assay demonstrated that the fractions EAF, VLC2 and VLC3 presented no genotoxic effects at tested concentrations. In plants only VLC3 showed significant results (p<0.05), reducing the incidence of citrus canker lesions.
