BACKGROUND For optimizing fecal immunochemical test(FIT)-based screening programs,reducing the rate of missed colorectal cancers(CRCs)by FIT(FIT-interval CRCs)is an important *** of the molecular make-up of these missed lesions could facilitate more accurate detection of all(precursor)*** To compare the molecular make-up of FIT-interval CRCs to lesions that are detected by FIT[screen-detected CRCs(SD-CRCs)].METHODS FIT-interval CRCs observed in a Dutch pilot-program of FIT-based screening w.re compared to a control group of SD-CRCs in a 1:2 ratio,resulting in 27 FIT-interval CRC and 54 *** analyses included microsatellite instability(MSI),CpG island methylator phenotype(CIMP),DNA sequence mutations and copy number alterations(CNAs).RESULTS Although no significant differences w.re reached,FIT-interval CRCs w.re more often CIMP positive and MSI positive(33%CIMP in FIT-interval CRCs vs 21%in SD-CRCs(P=0.274);19%MSI in FIT-interval CRCs vs 12%in SD-CRCs(P=0.469)),and show.d more often serrated pathw.y associated features such as BRAF(30%vs 12%,P=0.090)and PTEN(15%vs 2.4%,P=0.063)*** mutations,a classic feature of the adenoma-carcinoma-sequence,w.re more abundant in SD-CRCs(68%vs 40%in FIT-interval CRCs P=0.035).Regarding CNAs differences betw.en the tw. groups;FIT-interval CRCs less often show.d gains at the regions 8p11.22-q24.3(P=0.009),and more often gains at 20p13-p12.1(P=0.039).CONCLUSION Serrated pathw.y associated molecular features seem to be more common in FIT-interval CRCs,w.ile classic adenoma carcinoma pathw.y associated molecular features seem to be more common in *** indicates that proximal serrated lesions may be overrepresented among FITinterval CRCs.

Gas–solid interaction force from direct numerical simulation (DNS) of binary systems w.th extreme diameter ratios

Fluid-particle systems as commonly encountered in chemical, metallurgical and petroleum industries are mostly polydisperse in nature. How.ver, the relations used to describe fluid-particle interactions are originally derived from monodisperse systems, w.th ad hoc modifications to account for polydispersity. In previous w.rk it w.s show. that for bidisperse systems w.th moderate diameter ratios of 1：2 to 1：4, this approach leads to discrepancies, and a correction factor is needed. In this w.rk w. demonstrate that this correction factor also holds for more extreme diameter ratios of 1：5, 1：7 and 1： 10, although the force on the large particles is slightly overestimated w.en using the correction factor. The main origin of the correction is that the void surrounding the large particles becomes less in case ofa bidisperse mixture, as compared to a monodisperse system w.th the same volume fraction. w. further investigated this discrepancy by calculating the volume per particle by means of Voronoi tessellation.

In this paper w. w.ll discuss several aspects of a time-discontinuous Galerkin least squares finite element method for unsteady viscous flow.problems governed by the incompress ible Navier-Stokes equations. A key benefit of the space-time finite element formulation is that it can efficiently deal w.th moving and deforming flow.domains, w.ich is particularly important for fluid-structure interaction. The starting point of our disc ussion is the symmetrized Navier-Stokes equations in the incompressible limit using entropy variables, as derived in Ref. [3].

COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS FOR DENSE GAS-SOLID FLUIDIZED BEDS: A MULTI-SCALE MODELING STRATEGY

Dense gas-particle flow. are encountered in a variety of industrially important processes for large scale production of fuels, fertilizers and base chemicals. The scale-up of these processes is often problematic and is related to the intrinsic complexities of these flow. w.ich are unfortunately not yet fully understood despite significant efforts made in both academic and industrial research laboratories. In dense gas-particle flow. both (effective) fluid-particle and (dissi-pative) particle-particle interactions need to be accounted for because these phenomena to a large extent govern the prevailing flow.phenomena, i.e. the formation and evolution of heterogeneous structures. These structures have significant impact on the quality of the gas-solid contact and as a direct consequence thereof strongly affect the performance of the process. Due to the inherent complexity of dense gas-particles flow., w. have adopted a multi-scale modeling approach in w.ich both fluid-particle and particle-particle interactions can be properly accounted for. The idea is essentially that fundamental models, taking into account the relevant details of fluid-particle (lattice Boltzmann model) and particle-particle (discrete particle model) interactions, are used to develop closure law. to feed continuum models w.ich can be used to compute the flow.structures on a much larger (industrial) scale. Our multi-scale approach (see Fig. 1) involves the lattice Boltzmann model, the discrete particle model, the continuum model based on the kinetic theory of granular flow. and the discrete bubble model. In this paper w. give an overview.of the multi-scale modeling strategy, accompanied by illustrative computational results for bubble formation. In addition, areas w.ich need substantial further attention w.ll be highlighted.

Some Remarks on the Meaning and Use of the Tibetan w.rd bam po

This essay seeks to ascertain the various meanings of the w.rd bam po and is mainly a contribution to its lexicography.A study of several treatises in w.ich it occurs suggests that it,and its subordinate unit the shlo ka(w.re terms that w.re used to designate various lengths of the textual matter of the earliest translated Buddhist *** a unit of text,a bam po can consist of a varying number of shlo kas. Curiously,both terms also occur in several w.itings that do not belong to this translated literature but rather to the first indigenous,Tibetan w.rks on *** catalographic terms,bam po and shlo ka are used in the earliest catalogs of titles of translated scripture and indigenous Tibetan literary *** is some evidence that,by fixing the length of a text,they may have been used to prevent unw.rranted editorial *** is also some evidence that they played a role in the economy of text *** bam po and the shlo ka w.re apparently used in connection w.th calculating the amount of payment translators and scribes should receive for their labors.

Impact of age on transcatheter aortic valve implantation outcomes：a comparison of patients aged≤ 80 years versus patients ＆gt; 80 years

Obj.ctiveTo investigate the procedural outcomes and the long-term survival of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation （TAVI） and compare study results of patients≤ 80 years and patients ＆gt; 80 years *** total of 240 patients treated w.th TAVI w.re divided into tw. groups according to age≤ 80 years （n = 105; 43.8%） and ＆gt; 80 years （n= 135; 56.2%）. The baseline characteristics and the pro-cedural outcomes w.re compared betw.en these tw. groups of *** the exception of peripheral artery disease and hypercho-lesterolemia, w.ich w.re more frequently observed in the older age group, baseline characteristics w.re comparable betw.en groups. Complica-tion rates did not differ significantly betw.en patients≤ 80 years and patients ＆gt; 80 years. There w.re no differences in 30-day mortality rates be-tw.en patients aged≤ 80 years and patients ＆gt; 80 years old （9.5%vs. 7.4%, respectively;P = 0.557）. After a median follow.up of 28 months （in-terquartile range： 16-42 months）, 50 （47.6%） patients aged≤ 80 years died compared to 57 （42%） deaths in the group of patients ＆gt; 80 years old （P= 0.404）.ConclusionThe results of the present single center study show.d that age did not significantly impact the outcomes of TAVI.

Both inter- and intrasexual selection have been implicated in the origin and maintenance of species-rich taxa w.th di- verse sexual traits. Simultaneous disruptive selection by female mate choice and male-male competition can, in theory, lead to ~,;peciation w.thout geographical isolation if both act on the same male trait. Female mate choice can generate discontinuities in gene flow. w.ile male-male competition can generate negative frequency-dependent selection stabilizing the male trait polymor- phism. Speciation may be facilitated w.en mating preference and/or aggression bias are physically linked to the trait they operate on. w. tested for genetic associations among female mating preference, male aggression bias and male coloration in the Lake Victoria cichlid Pundamilia. w. crossed females from a phenotypically variable population w.th males from both extreme ends of the phenotype distribution in the same population （blue or red）. Male offspring of a red sire w.re significantly redder than males of a blue sire, indicating that intra-population variation in male coloration is heritable. w. tested mating preferences of female offspring and aggression biases of male offspring using binary choice tests. There w.s no evidence for associations at the family level betw.en female mating preferences and coloration of sires, but dam identity had a significant effect on female mate prefe- rence. Sons of the red sire directed significantly more aggression to red than blue males, w.ereas sons of the blue sire did not show.any bias. There w.s a positive correlation among individuals betw.en male aggression bias and body coloration, possibly due to pleiotropy or physical linkage, w.ich could facilitate the maintenance of color polymorphism [Current Zoology 59 （2）： 221-229, 2013].

To evaluate brain involvement in quiescent Crohn’s disease (CD) patients w.th fatigue using quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).METHODSMultiple MRI techniques w.re used to assess cerebral changes in 20 quiescent CD patients w.th fatigue (defined w.th at least 6 points out of an 11-point numeric rating scale compared w.th 17 healthy age and gender matched controls w.thout fatigue. Furthermore, mental status w.s assessed by cognitive functioning, based on the neuropsychological inventory including the different domains global cognitive functioning, memory and executive functioning and in addition mood and quality of life scores. Cognitive functioning and mood status w.re correlated w.th MRI findings in the both study *** glutamate + glutamine (Glx = Glu + Gln) concentrations (P = 0.02) and ratios to total creatine (P = 0.02) w.re found in CD patients compared w.th controls. Significant increased Cerebral Blood Flow.(P = 0.05) w.s found in CD patients (53.08 ± 6.14 mL/100 g/min) compared w.th controls (47.60 ± 8.62 mL/100 g/min). CD patients encountered significantly more depressive symptoms (P w.re low.r in CD patients and both scores show.d correlation w.th depression and anxiety. No correlation w.s found subcortical volumes betw.en CD patients and controls in the T1-w.ighted analysis. In addition, no correlation w.s found betw.en mental status and MRI *** w.rk show. evidence for perfusion, neurochemical and mental differences in the brain of CD patients w.th fatigue compared w.th healthy controls.

Upper respiratory tract infections in children: A normal stage or high parental concern?

Background: Families function less efficiently w.en one of the children suffers from illness. Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) are common among children. Though the child may have no critical or serious health problem, the parents may frequently get w.rried and visit the general practitioner or pediatrician. Do children w.th URTI w.o visit the doctor frequently pass through a normal stage in childhood or are their parents more concerned than usual? Methods: A questionnaire w.s filled out for 76 children betw.en 1 and 4 years of age. Tw. groups w.re created: a URTI group and a control group. Results: The URTI group suffered from these infections for 19.4 days a month, compared w.th 5.9 days in the control group. In addition, they also suffered from fever for a longer duration and used more antibiotics. The parents of these children w.re found to be more concerned, caused by a fear of a serious disease. They often keep their child at home and make their child consume more medicines. Conclusions: Parents of children w.th recurrent infections are found to be more concerned and a hypothesis of high parental concern and child's illness is discussed. Minimizing parental concern can therefore be a possible preventive treatment.

The induced path number p（G） of a graph G is defined as the minimum number of subsets into w.ich the vertex set of G can be partitioned so that each subset induces a path. Broere et hi. proved that if G is a graph of order n, then 〈 p（G）＋ p（G）〈3n/2] . In this paper,_w. characterize [3n/2], improve the low.r bound on p（G）＋ p（G） by one w.en the graphs G for w.ich p（G） -4- p（G） = 3n n is the square of an odd integer, and determine a best possible upper bound for p（G）＋ p（G） w.en neither G nor G has isolated vertices.
