Backward erosion piping involves the gradual rem.val of granular m.terial under the action of water flow from.the foundation of a dam.or levee, whereby shallow pipes are form.d that grow in the direction opposite to the flow. This pipe-form.ng process can ultim.tely lead to failure of a water-retaining structure and is considered one of the m.st im.ortant failure m.chanism. for dikes and levees in the Netherlands and the United States. m.deling of this m.chanism.requires the assessm.nt of hydraulic conditions in the pipe, which are controlled by the particle equilibrium.at the pipe wall. Since the pipe’s dim.nsions are controlled by the inflow to the pipe from.the porous m.dium. the flow through the pipe is thought to be lam.nar for fine-to m.dium.grained sands. The literature provides data for incipient m.tion in lam.nar flow, which is reviewed here and com.lem.nted with data from.backward erosion experim.nts. The experim.nts illustrate the applicability of the lam.nar incipient m.tion data to determ.ne the erosion pipe dim.nsions and corresponding pipe hydraulics for fine-to m.dium.grained sands, for the purpose of backward erosion piping m.deling.

Objective:To identify possible stone-prom.ting m.crobes,we com.ared the profiles of m.crobes grown from.stones of patients with and without m.tabolic syndrom.(m.tS).The association between m.tS and urinary stone disease is well established,but the exact pathophysiologic relationship rem.ins *** evidence suggests urinary tract dysbiosis m.y lead to increased nephrolithiasis ***:At the tim. of percutaneous nephrolithotom.,bladder urine and stone fragm.nts were collected from.patients with and without *** sam.le types were subjected to expanded quantitative urine culture(EQUC)and 16 S ribosom.l RNA gene ***:Fifty-seven patients included 12 controls(21.1%)and 45 m.tS patients(78.9%).Both cohorts were sim.lar with respect to dem.graphics and non-m.tS *** controls had uric acid stone *** EQUC,bacteria were detected m.re frequently in m.tS stones(42.2%)com.ared to controls(8.3%)(p=0.041).Bacteria also were m.re abundant in stones of m.tS patients com.ared to *** validate our EQUC results,we perform.d 16 S ribosom.l RNA gene *** 12/16(75.0%)sequence-positive stones,EQUC reliably isolated at least one species of the sequenced *** were detected in both“infectious”and“non-infectious”stone ***:Bacteria are m.re com.on and m.re abundant in m.tS stones than control *** findings support a role for bacteria in urinary stone disease for patients with m.tS regardless of stone com.osition.

BACKGROUND Sport-induced injuries particularly affect young,healthy,and active ***,a popular and accessible sport,can cause a wide range of injuries,including stress *** fractures can occur during high-intensity training or com.etitions,especially am.ng well-trained am.teurs and professional *** diagnosis can be com.licated by the typically young age,unrem.rkable m.dical history,and vital condition of the *** fractures present insidiously,and this is specifically the case with stress fractures of the fem.ral *** intervention is crucial to prevent progressive displacem.nt,as this can dam.ge the blood supply to the fem.ral *** SUm.ARY A 30-year-old m.le runner presented to our outpatient clinic with persistent pain 3 weeks after running a m.rathon.X-ray showed a com.lete lateral fracture of the left fem.ral neck,which was treated surgically with a dynam.c hip *** It is essential for healthcare providers to be vigilant for the subtle sym.tom. of stress fractures to ensure tim.ly *** recognition prevents com.plication and leads to a better prognosis.

The relation between the structure of the silver network electrodes and the properties of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) solar cells is system.cally investigated. The Ag network electrode is deposited onto an Al:ZnO (AZO) thin film. em.loying a self-form.ng cracked tem.late. Precise control over the cracked tem.late's structure is achieved through careful adjustm.nt of tem.erature and hum.dity. The Ag network electrodes with different coverage areas and network densities are system.cally applied to the CIGS solar cells. It is revealed that predom.nant fill factor (FF) is influenced by the figure of m.rit of transparent conducting electrodes, rather than sheet resistance, particularly when the coverage area falls within the range of 1.3-5%. Furtherm.re, a higher network density corresponds to an enhanced FF when the coverage areas of the Ag networks are sim.lar. When utilizing a thinner AZO film. CIGS solar cells with a surface area of 1.0609 cm. exhibit a notable perform.nce im.rovem.nt, with efficiency increasing from.10.48% to 11.63%. This enhancem.nt is prim.rily attributed to the increase in FF from.45% to 65%. These findings underscore the considerable potential for reducing the thickness of the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) in CIGS m.dules with im.lications for practical applications in photovoltaic technology.

The flapping vortex dynam.cs of two flexible plates subm.rged side-by-side in the wake of a square cylinder are investigated through a two-way fluid–structure interaction(FSI) sim.lation. The gap between the two plates can stabilize wakes, lengthen vortex form.tion,elongate vortices, suppress vortex shedding, and decrease hydrodynam.c forces. The num.rical results indicate that the two flexible plates can exhibit four distinct m.des of coupled m.tion: out-of-phase flapping, in-phase flapping, transition flapping, and decoupled flapping,depending on the gap spacing. Additionally, it is discovered that each of the four coupling m.des has a unique pattern of vortex developm.nt. The findings of this study should proved valuable in the design of FSI-based piezoelectric energy harvesters utilizing cylinder–plate system..

Genetic susceptibility to m.tabolic associated fatty liver disease(m.FLD)is com.lex and poorly *** characterization of the genetic background of hepatic fat content would provide insights into disease etiology and causality of risk *** perform.d genom.-wide association study(GWAS)on two noninvasive definitions of hepatic fat content:m.gnetic resonance im.ging proton density fat fraction(m.I-PDFF)in 16,050 participants and fatty liver index(FLI)in 388,701 participants from.the United Kingdom.UK)Biobank(UKBB).Heritability,genetic overlap,and sim.larity between hepatic fat content phenotypes were analyzed,and replicated in 10,398 participants from.the University m.dical Center Groningen(Um.G)Genetics Lifelines Initiative(UGLI).m.ta-analysis of GWASs of m.I-PDFF in UKBB revealed five statistically significant loci,including two novel genom.c loci harboring CREB3L1(rs72910057-T,P=5.40E−09)and GCm.(rs1491489378-T,P=3.16E−09),respectively,as well as three previously reported loci:PNPLA3,Tm.SF2,and *** of FLI in UKBB identified 196 genom.-wide significant loci,of which 49 were replicated in UGLI,with top signals in ZPR1(P=3.35E−13)and FTO(P=2.11E−09).Statistically significant genetic correlation(rg)between m.I-PDFF(UKBB)and FLI(UGLI)GWAS results was found(rg=0.5276,P=1.45E−03).Novel m.I-PDFF genetic signals(CREB3L1 and GCm.)were replicated in the FLI *** identified two novel genes for m.I-PDFF and 49 replicable loci for *** a difference in hepatic fat content assessm.nt between m.I-PDFF and FLI,a substantial sim.lar genetic architecture was *** is identified as an easy and reliable approach to study hepatic fat content at the population level.

We have previously evaluated asbestos exposure associated with various m.intenance procedures on light aircraft. The purpose of this study was to evaluate asbestos exposure during engine m.intenance on light aircraft. This test was designed to evaluate the potential for asbestos exposure to m.chanics and others who rem.ve asbestos-containing engine gaskets from.reciprocating style aircraft engines. Utilized in this test was an air cooled, horizontally opposed, aviation gasoline burning engine, assem.led during 1986 and operated interm.ttently up into 2015, having accum.lated 1680 hours run tim.. Nearly 75% of the asbestos-containing gaskets installed during 1986 were still in place at the tim. of testing. Chrysotile asbestos contents of such gaskets ranged from.55% to 60% by area, for those of sheet style and 5% by area, for the spiral wound m.tal/asbestos style. Despite the levels of effort required to effect gasket rem.vals, the professional aircraft m.chanic was not exposed to airborne asbestos fibers at the lower lim.ts of sam.ling and analytical detection achieved;all of which were substantially less than the current Occupational Safety and Health Adm.nistration Perm.ssible Exposure Lim.ts for asbestos. The results of this testing indicate an absence of gasket related asbestos exposure risk to m.chanics who work with light aircraft engines, including those having asbestos-containing gaskets. These results are consistent with the findings of m.yarek and van Orden who studied the asbestos exposure risk occasioned during overhaul of larger radial style reciprocating aircraft engines [1].
