Agreement between IOLMaster 500 and Pentacam HR for keratometry assessment in type 2 diabetic and nondiabetic patients

AIM:To evaluate inter-device agreement of anterior keratometry obtained by the IOLMaster 500 and Pentacam HR in type 2 diabetic and non-diabetic ***:Corneal measurements were sequentially performed in 60 diabetes mellitus(DM)and 48 age and sex-matched controls undergoing cataract *** recorded included flat and steep keratometry,mean keratometry(Km),astigmatism magnitude,axis location,JO and J45 ***-Altman plots and intraclass correlation coefficients were used for examination of *** analyses were performed for astigmatism magnitude,diabetes duration,hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)levels and diabetic retinopathy(DR)***:Agreement for Km and astigmatism magnitude were considered good and moderate,with 95%limits of agreement(LoA)of-1.09 to 1.23 diopters(D)and-0.83 to 0.86 D in DM group,respectively;and-0.59 to 0.72 D and-0.98 to 0.75 D in non-DM group,*** contrast,the 95%LoA for corneal axis exceeded the clinically relevant margins in both *** the total sample,only 41 eyes(38%)had a smaller than 5-degree *** duration,HbA1c levels and DR stage were not found to significantly affect *** regression showed that higher corneal power(P=0.021)and astigmatism magnitude(P=0.011)were associated with a decreased risk of having a difference in axis location greater than ***:In both groups,IOLMaster and Pentacam agree well for corneal power and moderately for ***,axis location disagreement is frequent in eyes with flatter corneas and small amounts of astigmatism.

Methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris is an object of modern biotechnology. Decisive understanding of gene regulation mechanisms is essential for successful protein production. In this study, we investigated the effect of deletions in P. pastoris genes encoding proteins, homologous to S. serevisiae Rtg1p, Rtg 2p, Msn2p and Msn4p. It was shown, that deletion in PpRTG1 gene results in inability of P. pastoris to grow on medium with methanol as a carbon source and ammonium sulfate as a source of nitrogen. We also demonstrate that deletions in PpRTG1 and PpRTG2 decrease activity of AOX1 promoter.

The GRAAL experimental set-up consists of a polarized and tagged photon beam that covers an energy range from a minimum of 600 Mev up to a maximum of 1500 Mev, of a liquid Hydrogen or Deuterium target and of the 4π Lagrange detector optimized for photon detection. It allows the study of pseudo-scalar and vector meson photoproduCtion on the nucleon in the energy range corresponding to the second and the third resonance regions. In the following, the ∑ beam asymmetries in η and π0 photoproduction on quasi-free nucleon are shown. Also single and double polarization observables in K＋A photoproduction on free proton are shown; they are important to confirm the role of new or poorly known resonances in the 1900 Mev mass region.

Molecular Markers of Kidney Cancer Progression, Association with Efficiency of Pazopanib Therapy

Purpose: The aim of the study is to reveal associations between NF-κB, HIF-1alpha, vEGF expres-sions, proteasome and calpain activities with tumor progression in patients with kidney cancers and to find molecular parameters, associated with the effective pazopanib therapy. 93 patients with clear cell kidney cancers are included in investigation. 26 patients with disseminated kidney cancer have the pazopanib therapy. Methods: Transcription factors, vEGF, vEGFR2 and p-m-tor expression are measured by ELISA kits. Proteasome and calpain activity are determined using specific fluorogenic substrate. Results: It is found the increase of NF-κB, HIF-1 expression in cancer tissues followed the hematogenic metastasis development. Coefficient NF-κB р65/р50 and vEGF expression are increased in cancer tissues with single metastasis and are decreased in cancer tissues with multiple ones. It is observed in the low proteasome activity in metastatic cancer tissues. The partial cancer regression is revealed in 29.6% of patients treated with pazopanib, cancer stabilization—in 61.5% of patients and cancer progression—in 11.5% of patients. The increased level of transcription factors NF-κB, HIF-1, growth factor vEGF and high proteasome activity in cancer tissues before targeted therapy are associated with the effective treatment. It is obtained the significant decrease of investigated markers after pazopanib application in metastatic kidney cancer patients. Conclusion: Coefficient NF-κB р65/р50, vEGF expression and proteases activities are the potential prognostic molecular markers of hematogenic metastasis development in kidney cancers. NF-κB, HIF-1 and vEGF levels can be considered as additional molecular markers predicting the effective pazopanib therapy.

We propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally the generation of light pulses whose polarization varies temporally to cover selected areas of the Poincare´sphere with both tunable swirling speed and total duration(1 ps and 10 ps,respectively,in our implementation).The effect relies on the Rabi oscillations of two polariton polarized fields excited by two counter-polarized and delayed *** superposition of the oscillating fields result in the precession of the Stokes vector of the emitted light while polariton lifetime imbalance results in its drift from a circle of controllable radius on the Poincare´sphere to a single point at long *** positioning of the initial circle and final point allows to engineer the type of polarization spanning,including a full sweeping of the Poincare´*** universality and simplicity of the scheme should allow for the deployment of time-varying full-Poincare´polarization fields in a variety of platforms,timescales,and regimes.

This manuscript deals with the electro-deposition of Cu on aluminum foams. Metallic foams are highly porous materials which present complex structure of three-dimensional open cells. This aspect causes strong limitations in mass transport due to electro-deposition technology. Experimental tests were performed to study the influence of the operational parameters on the overall performance of the coated aluminum foams. The experimental findings revealed that the manufactured metal foams were characterized by a high thermal conductivity and low process costs, making these materials very promising in many technological fields. On the basis of the experimental results, analytical models are proposed to predict the quantity and the quality characteristics of the coating.

The “opioid crisis” has had a tremendous impact not only on its victims, but also on the practice of medicine, pain patients, and society in general. Unfortunately, efforts to “stem the tide” have not been successful at reducing overdose deaths. Counterbalancing the many ardent efforts to eliminate overdose deaths (such as the current widespread availability and use of opioid-receptor antagonists such as naloxone) is influx of the illicit fentanoids (i.e., fentanyl and analogs). In addition to their high-potency, the fentanoids differ in surprising ways from more “traditional” opioids such as morphine and heroin. This uniqueness contributes to a reduced effectiveness of opioid receptor antagonists in the treatment of opioid overdose. Further greatly complicating overdose treatment is polysubstance abuse (e.g., an opioid plus a benzodiazepine). The non-opioid in the combination is not responsive to an opioid-recep- tor antagonist, which imparts additional challenges. Thus, the new reality introduces complications that negatively impact efforts to reverse “opioid” overdose. A search for the rare decays W^(+)→D_(s)^(+)γ and Z→D0γis performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13Tev,corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0fb−*** significant signal is observed for either decay mode and upper limits on their branching fractions are set using W^(+)→D_(s)^(+)γ and Z→μ+μ−decays as normalization *** upper limits are 6.5×10^(−4) and 2.1×10^(−3) at 95% confidence level for the W^(+)→D_(s)^(+)γ and Z→D^(0)γ decay modes,*** is the first reported search for the Z→D^(0)γ decay,while the upper limit on the W+→D+sγbranching fraction improves upon the previous best limit.
