Biodiversity and seasonal variation of benthic macrofauna in Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep,India

From the Indian coast only limited data are available on the benthic fauna of the seagrass communities. In this study, seasonal variation in the distribution of macrobenthos and influence of environmental parameters was explored at four seagrass beds and two mangrove stations along the Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep, India, from September 1999 to August 2001. A total of 160 macrobenthic species from eight major groups represented the macrofauna of the Minicoy Island. Of the identified taxa, molluscs 70（gastropods 41.46%, bivalves 7.5%）, polychaetes 27（16.88%）, crustaceans 30（18.75%）, echinoderms 11（6.88%） and remaining others. Average seasonal abundance of benthic macrofauna ranged from 219 to 711 ind./m2, species diversity varied from 1.45 to 3.64 bits per individual, species richness index ranged from 4.01 to 26.17, evenness 0.69 to 1.66. In general, the higher abundance and species diversity was noticed in southern seagrass stations and northern seagrass stations, but in the mangrove stations comparatively low species diversity was observed. Three-way analysis of variance indicated that all communities resulted as being significantly different between seagrass and mangrove station, mainly when the seasonal interaction was considered. Multivariate analyses were employed to help define benthic characteristic and the relationship between environmental parameters at the six monitoring stations. Results of cluster analyses and multidimensional scale plot suggest that for mangrove region, different physiographic provinces, lower salinity, dissolved oxygen and sediment biotic structure have a higher influence on the species composition and diversity than other oceanographic conditions.

The tight focusing properties of a radially polarized Gaussian beam with a nested pair of vortices having a radial wave front distribution are investigated theoretically by the vector diffraction theory. The results show that the optical intensity in the focal region can be altered considerably by changing the location of the vortices nested in a radially polarized Gaussian beam. It is noted that focal evolution from one annular focal pattern to a highly confined focal spot in the transverse direction is observed corresponding to the change in the location of the optical vortices in the input plane. It is also observed that the generated focal hole or spot lead to a focal shift along the optical axis remarkably under proper radial phase modulation. Hence the proposed system may be applied to construct tunable optical traps for both high and low refractive index particles.

The current research work proposed a novel optimization-based 2D-SIMM(Two-Dimensional Sine Iterative chaotic map with inﬁnite collapse Mod-ulation Map)model for image *** proposed 2D-SIMM model is derived out of sine map and Iterative Chaotic Map with Inﬁnite Collapse(ICMIC).In this technique,scrambling effect is achieved with the help of Chaotic Shift Transform(CST).Chaotic Shift Transform is used to change the value of pixels in the input image while the substituted value is cyclically shifted according to the chaotic sequence generated by 2D-SIMM *** chaotic sequences,generated using 2D-SIMM model,are sensitive to initial *** the proposed algorithm,these initial conditions are optimized using JAYA optimization *** coefﬁcient and entropy are considered asﬁtness functions in this study to evaluate the best solution for initial *** simulation results clearly shows that the proposed algorithm achieved a better performance over existing *** addition,the vLSI implementation of the proposed algorithm was also carried out using Xilinx system *** optimization,the correlation coefﬁcient was-0.014096 and without optimization,it was 0.002585.

Background The cryptic nature of pink bollworm Pectinophora gossypiella(Saunders)larvae enables its reduced vul-nerability to insecticidal ***,the development of resistance against Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)toxins posed a serious threat to transgenic cotton *** necessitated determining the critical timing of spray applications on the control *** study assessed the influence of egg age(freshly laid ***-day-old)and the loca-tion of larvae(directly exposed to the insecticide residues on the boll rind *** inside the bolls)on insecticide control *** The results revealed a significant decrease in the ovicidal activity of tested insecticides with an increase in the age of eggs from one day old to three days old(paired t-test,Pvae directly exposed to the insec-ticide residues on the boll rind were more susceptible(>80%mortality)than the larvae exposed after they had bur-rowed inside the bolls(velopmental biology were more pronounced in the experiment on pre-larval release insecticide treatment compared with insecticide treatment given post-larval release and entry inside the *** Egg age influences the insecticide susceptibility,as does the larval location,directly exposed vs bur-rowed inside the *** eggs and the larvae that had burrowed inside the green bolls of cotton were relatively less susceptible to the insecticide *** toxic effects of insecticides on egg and larval stages were primar-ily *** findings are significant for devising a comprehensive strategy for pink bollworm management on a sustainable basis.

With the help of the solid phase peptide synthesizing method, we synthesized Kalata B2 cyclotide and the final product was purified by preparative HPLC. The sequence of Kalata B2 is GLPvCGETCFGGTCNTPGCSCTWPICTRD and its m/z M + H mass is 2955.53. It had been first isolated from Oldenlandia affinis plant leaves extract which belongs to Rubiaceae family. The synthesis of Kalata B2 has been characterized through UPLC/MS, LC/MS, CD, 1HNMR, and IR.

BACKGROUND Portal vein thrombosis(PvT) after liver transplantation(LT) is an uncommon complication with potential for significant morbidity and mortality that transplant providers should be cognizant *** subtle changes in postoperative ultrasounds that could herald but do not definitively diagnose PvT is *** SUMMARY A 30-year-old female with a history of alcohol-related cirrhosis presented with painless jaundice and received a deceased donor orthotopic liver *** the first two days post-operatively,her liver Doppler ultrasounds showed a patent portal vein,increased hepatic arterial diastolic flows,and reduced hepatic arterial resistive *** was asymptomatic with improving *** postoperative day three,her resistive indices declined further,and computed tomography of the abdomen revealed a large extra-hepatic *** patient then underwent emergent percutaneous venography with tissue plasminogen activator administration,angioplasty,and stent *** was started to prevent stent ***-up ultrasounds showed a patent portal vein and improved hepatic arterial resistive *** graft function improved to normal by *** decreased hepatic artery resistive indices and increased diastolic flows on ultrasound are often associated with hepatic arterial stenosis post-LT,PvT can also cause these *** Reduced hepatic arterial resistive indices on ultrasound can signify PvT post-LT,and thrombolysis,angioplasty,and stent placement are efficacious treatments.

In this study, Octagonal Photonic Crystal Fiber (O-PCF) structures are designed for different air filling fractions with fixed pitch length of 2.2 μm. The light propagating characteristics of PCF structures such as effective refractive index, confinement loss, chromatic dispersion mode effective area and nonlinear coefficient are numerically analyzed. The simulation results show that the fibers have dispersion flattened, ultra-low loss highly nonlinear nature in the wavelength region 1.3 μm to 1.7 μm.
