How does high-intensity intermittent training affect recreational endurance runners? Acute and chronic adaptations: A systematic review

Objective: This systematic review aimed to critically analyze the literature to determine how high-intensity intermittent training(HIIT) affects recreational endurance runners in the short-and ***: Electronic databases were searched for literature dating from January 2000 to October 2015. The search was conducted using the key words "high-intensity intermittent training" or "high-intensity interval exercise" or "interval running" or "sprint interval training" and "endurance runners" or "long distance runners". A systematic approach was used to evaluate the 783 articles identified for initial review. Studies were included if they investigated HIIT in recreational endurance runners. The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database(PEDro) scale(for intervention studies) and the modified Downs and Black Quality Index(for cross-sectional studies).Results: Twenty-three studies met the inclusionary criteria for review. The results are presented in 2 parts: cross-sectional(n = 15) and intervention studies(n = 8). In the 15 cross-sectional studies selected, endurance runners performed at least 1 HIIT protocol, and the acute impact on physiological, neuromuscular, metabolic and/or biomechanical variables was assessed. Intervention studies lasted a minimum of 4 weeks, with 10 weeks being the longest intervention period, and included 2 to 4 HIIT sessions per week. Most of these studies combined HIIT sessions with continuous run(CR) sessions; 2 studies' subjects performed HIIT ***: HIIT-based running plans(2 to 3 HIIT sessions per week, combining HIIT and CR runs) show athletic performance improvements in endurance runners by improving maximal oxygen uptake and running economy along with muscular and metabolic adaptations. To maximize the adaptations to training, both HIIT and CR must be part of training programs for endurance runners.

Efficient Handling of Lock Hand-off in DSM Multiprocessors with Buffering Coherence Controllers

Synchronization in parallel programs is a major performance bottleneck in multiprocessor systems. Shared data is protected by locks and a lot of time is spent on the competition arising at the lock hand-off. In order to be serialized, requests to the same cache line can either be bounced （NACKed） or buffered in the coherence controller. In this paper, we focus mainly on systems whose coherence controllers buffer requests. In a lock hand-off, a burst of requests to the same line arrive at the coherence controller. During lock hand-off only the requests from the winning processor contribute to progress of the computation, since the winning processor is the only one that will advance the work. This key observation leads us to propose a hardware mechanism we call request bypassing, which allows requests from the winning processor to bypass the requests buffered in the coherence controller keeping the lock line. We present an inexpensive implementation of request bypassing that reduces the time spent on all the execution phases of a critical section （acquiring the lock, accessing shared data, and releasing the lock） and which, as a consequence, speeds up the whole parallel computation. This mechanism requires neither compiler or programmer support nor ISA or coherence protocol changes. By simulating a 32-processor system, we show that using request bypassing does not degrade but rather improves performance in three applications with low synchronization rates, while in those having a large amount of synchronization activity （the remaining four）, we see reductions in execution time and in lock stall time ranging from 14% to 39% and from 52% to 7170, respectively. We compare request bypassing with a previously proposed technique called read combining and with a system that bounces requests, observing a significantly lower execution time with the bypassing scheme. Finally, we analyze the sensitivity of our results to some key hardware and software parameters.

Cholangiocarcinoma(CC) arising from the large intrahepatic bile ducts and extrahepatic hilar bile ducts share clinicopathological features and have been called hilar and perihilar CC as a ***,"hilar and perihilar CC" are also used to refer exclusively to the intrahepatic hilar type CC or,more commonly,the extrahepatic hilar ***,a major distinction can be made between papillary and non-papillary ***,most hilar CCs are well to moderately differentiated conventional type(biliary) ***,CK7,CK20,CEA and MUC1 are normally expressed,being MUC2 positive in less than 50% of *** main premalignant lesions are known:biliary intraepithelial neoplasia(BilIN) and intraductal papillary neoplasm of the biliary tract(IPNB).IPNB includes the lesions previously named biliary papillomatosis and papillary carcinoma.A series of 29 resected hilar CC from our archives is ***(82.8%) were conventional type adenocarcinomas,mostly well to moderately differentiated,although with a broad morphological spectrum;three cases exhibited a poorly differentiated cell component resembling signet ring *** was observed in 5(17.2%),four of them with an associated invasive carcinoma.A clear cell type carcinoma,an adenosquamous carcinoma and two gastric foveolar type carcinomas were observed.

Propagation of Recombinant Genes through Complex Microbiomes with Synthetic Mini-RP4 Plasmid v.ctors

The promiscuous conjugation machinery of the Gram-negative plasmid RP4 has been reassembled in a minimized, highlytransmissible v.ctor for propagating genetically encoded traits through diverse types of naturally occurring microbialcommunities. To this end, the whole of the RP4-encoded transfer determinants (tra, mob genes, and origin of transfer oriT)was excised from their natural context, minimized, and recreated in the form of a streamlined DNA segment borne by anautoselective replicon. The resulting constructs (the pMATING series) could be self-transferred through a variety ofprokaryotic and eukaryotic recipients employing such a rationally designed conjugal delivery device. Insertion of GFP reporterinto pMATING exposed the value of this genetic tool for delivering heterologous genes to both specific mating partners andcomplex consortia (e.g., plant/soil rhizosphere). The results accredited the effective and functional transfer of the recombinantplasmids to a diversity of hosts. Yet the inspection of factors that limit interspecies DNA transfer in such scenarios uncoveredtype vI secretion systems as one of the factual barriers that check otherwise high conjugal frequencies of tested RP4derivatives. We argue that the hereby presented programming of hyperpromiscuous gene transfer can become a phenomenalasset for the propagation of beneficial traits through various scales of the environmental microbiome.

The progress made by the scientific community in emerging photovoltaic technologies over the past two decades has been outstanding. Numerous methods have been developed for the preparation of hybrid organic–inorganic perovskite solar cells. The power conversion efficiency has been up to 14% by a one-step vacuum deposition technique. A serious concern is the toxicity of the materials. In this review, several methods aimed at resolving these problems to some extent have been compiled, including eco-friendly synthesis. Further efficiency enhancements are expected following optimization, and a better fundamental understanding of the internal electron charge transfer, electron–hole diffusion to the corresponding layers, flexibility, and stability-dependent bandgaps is reported. This paper explores the green synthesis of organic–inorganic perovskites for industrialization. Concerning the above facts, a simple low-cost model called‘‘dispersed photovoltaic cells' ' is presented.

Recycling solid waste in cement-based materials cannot only ease its load on the natural environment but also reduce the carbon emissions of building *** study aims to investigate the effect of recycled glass powder(RGP)on the early-age mechanical properties and autogenous shrinkage of cement pastes,where cement is replaced by 10%,20%and 30%of *** addition,the microstructure and nano-mechanical properties of cement paste with different RGP content and water to binder(W/B)ratio were also evaluated using SEM,MIP and nanoindentation *** results indicate that the early-age autogenous shrinkage decreases with the increase of RGP content and W/B *** the mechanical strength deteriorates due to the addition of RGP,it can be compensated by reducing the W/B *** the addition of RGP increases the total porosity of the hardened paste,it reduces the small size porosity(volume fraction of porosity is increased,but that of hydration products of cement paste is reduced due to the incorporation of *** its pozzolanic activity,the mitigated shrinkage deformation that RGP is generating in cement pastes is encouraging for its use as a novel supplementary cementitious material that reduces the early-age cracking risk of cement-based ***,the life cycle assessments indicate that the RGP-cement component is an economical and eco-friendly novel engineering material.

Depreciation factor equation to evaluate the economic losses from ground failure due to subsidence related to groundwater withdrawal

Subsidence due to groundwater withdrawal is a complex hydrogeological process affecting numerous cities settled on top of fluviolacustrine deposits. The discrete spatial variation in the thickness of these deposits, in combination with subsidence due to groundwater withdrawal, generates differential settlements and aseismic ground failure (AGF) characterized by a welldefined scarp. In cities, such AGF causes severe damages to urban infrastructure and considerable economic impact. With the goal of arriving to a general criterion for evaluating the economic losses derived from AGF, in the present work we propose the following equation: ELi = Pvi*DFi. Where Pvi is the value of a property “i”, and DFi is a depreciation factor caused by structural damages of a property “i” due to AGF. The DFi is calculated empirically through: . This last equation is based on the spatial relations of coexistence and proximity of property polygons and the AGF axis. The coexistence is valued as the quotient of the affectation area divided by the total area of the involved property;and the proximity to the AGF axis is expressed as the inverse of the perpendicular distance from the centroid of the property polygon to the AGF axis. The sum of these terms is divided by two to determine the percentage that affects the property value (Pvi). These equations are relevant because it is the first indicator designed for the discrete assessment of the economic impacts due to AGF, and can be applied to real estate infrastructure from either urban or rural areas.

Effects of 12 weeks of barefoot running on foot strike patterns,inversion-eversion and foot rotation in long-distance runners
