A multi-platform analysis of human gingival crevicular fluid reveals ferroptosis as a relevant regulated cell death mechanism during the clinical progression of periodontitis

Decentralized Proof-of-Burn auction for secure cryptocurrency upgrade

We propose a new approach for a secure, decentralized, and censorless upgrade of existing cryptocurrencies to newly created tokens without interaction with any external information sources (oracles). The proposed scheme is based on the burning of existing cryptocurrency tokens and implemented via the multi-currency auction. The auction is carried out on the blockchain of the new token and implemented using a smart contract that processes participants' bids of burnt tokens of other cryptocurrencies and supports a new token price discovery algorithm for each cryptocurrency with no oracles or any other trusted source of information. Contrary to traditional ways of getting the new asset, like centralized and decentralized exchanges, our method requires no user registration (as well as no KYC - "know your customer" procedure that requires obligatory client identification) and provides a predicted supply level of the new asset for an adequate price within a model with economically rational participants. We provide the results of decentralized auction simulations implemented for several strategies of user behavior (based on bid prices with normal and log -normal distribution laws), both under the normal operation and in the presence of an adversary who follows specific strategies.

Computed tomography-based diagnostics might be insufficient in the determination of pancreatic cancer unresectability

AiM: To inquire into a question of an overestimation of arterial involvement in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC). METHODS: Radiology data were compared with the findings from 51 standard, 58 extended and 17 total pancreaticoduodenectomies; 9 distal resections with celiac artery (CA) excision; and 28 palliations for PC. The survival of 11 patients with controversial computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic ultrasound data with regard to arterial invasion, after R0/R1 procedures (false-positive CT results, Group A), was compared to survival after eight R2 resections (false-negative CT results, Group B) and after 12 bypass procedures for locally advanced cancer (true-positive CT results, Group C).RESULTS: in all of the cases in group A, operative exploration revealed no arterial invasion, which was predicted by CT. The one-year survival in Group A was 88.9%, and the two-year survival was 26.7%, with a median follow-up of 22 mo. One-year survival was not attained in groups B and C, with a significant difference in survival (P a-b = 0.0029, P b-c = 0.003).COnCLUSiOn: Arterial encasement on CT does not necessarily indicate arterial invasion. Whenever PC is considered unresectable, endoUS should be used. in patients with controversial CT an EUS data for peripan-creatic arteries involvement radical resection might be possible, providing survival benefits as compared to R2-resections or palliative surgery.

Search for Compromise Solution of the MultistageAxial Compressor's Stochastic Optimization Problem

The aim of this paper is to discuss a method of the compromise region determination for the multistage axial flow compressor stochastic optimization problems. This method is based on the 2-D axisynunetrical mathematical model of the compressor and on the new multicriteria optimization procedure.A specific feature of the multicriteria optimization procedure is a possibility to obtain a set of the Edgeworth-Pareto optimal solutions within the frame of single optimization task. The paper presents some examples of the compressor’s geometrical parameters multicriteria optimization.

BACKGROUnD The management of cystic dystrophy of the duodenal wall(CDDW),or groove pancreatitis(GP),remains *** pancreatoduodenectomy(PD)is considered the most suitable operation for CDDW,pancreas-preserving duodenal resection(PPDR)has also been suggested as an alternative for the pure form of GP(isolated CDDW).There are no studies comparing PD and PPDR for this *** To compare the safety,efficacy,and short-and long-term results of PD and PPDR in patients with *** A retrospective analysis of the clinical,radiologic,pathologic,and intra-and postoperative data of 84 patients with CDDW(2004-2020)and a comparison of the safety and efficacy of PD and *** Symptoms included abdominal pain(100%),weight loss(76%),vomiting(30%)and jaundice(18%)and data from computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,and endoUS led to the correct preoperative diagnosis in 98.8%of *** patients were treated conservatively with pancreaticoenterostomy(n=8),duodenum-preserving pancreatic head resection(n=6),PD(n=44)and PPDR(n=15)without *** gain was significantly higher after PD and PPDR and complete pain control was achieved significantly more often after PPDR(93%)and PD(84%)compared to the other treatment modalities(18%).new onset diabetes mellitus and severe exocrine insufficiency occurred after PD(31%and 14%),but not after *** PPDR has similar safety and better efficacy than PD in patients with CDDW and may be the optimal procedure for the isolated form of *** pure form of GP is a duodenal disease and PD may be an overtreatment for this *** detection of CDDW provides an opportunity for pancreas-preserving surgery.

Studies of ultrasonic dehydration efficiency

The aim of this investigation was to define the effectiveness of non-contact drying using ultrasonic vibrations. Disk radiators were used for carrying out experiments, and a special drying chamber was designed to provide resonant amplification of ultrasonic vibrations (from 130 to 150 dB). Drying of ginseng and other vegetables demonstrated that the application of ultrasonic vibrations reduced power inputs by 20% in comparison with convective drying. it also led to a decrease of 6% in final moisture content, if the duration of drying was constant. The level of intensification of ultrasonic drying was high (up to 50 g for 1 kg of drying material), which helped to lower the temperature of the drying agent and improve the quality of the dried products.

nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(nAFLD)is the most common chronic liver disease,leading to fibrosis,cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma and also associated with increased cardiovascular disease *** pathogenesis of nAFLD is not fully understood,although nAFLD is thought to be a hepatic form of metabolic *** is an increasing understanding of the role of microbiota disturbances in nAFLD pathogenesis,and as with many other conditions affecting the microbiota,nAFLD may be a novel risk factor for Clostridioides difficile(***)colonization(CDC)and *** infection(CDi).CDi is an emerging nosocomial disease,and community-acquired cases of infection are growing,probably due to an increase in CDC *** association of nAFLD with CDi has been shown in only 4 studies to date,three of which included less than 1000 patients,although the frequency of nAFLD in these studies was observed in almost 20%of the total patient *** data revealed that nAFLD is a risk factor for CDi development and,moreover,is a risk factor for intestinal complications of *** studies are needed to investigate this association and move forward CDC and CDi screening efforts for this group of patients.

A series of Sc,Y,Ce,Pr,nd,Sm,Eu,Gd,Tb,Ho,Er,Tm and Yb complexes with oxybenzoquinoline ligands(BQ) was synthesized by the reactions of 10-hydroxybenzo[h]quinoline with cyclopentadienides or tris(trimethylsilyl)amides of rare earth *** structure,as well as the photo-and electroluminescent(PL,EL) properties of these complexes in solutions and solid state were *** solutions,complexes of sodium and lanthanides exhibit double peaked ligand-centered PL of enol and keto forms of BQ with a quantum yield of 1%-8%.in the solid state the complexes of Sm,Eu,Ho,nd,Er,and Yb along with the ligand-centered PL also exhibit a moderate-intensity metal-centered PL which is characteristic of the corresponding Ln^(3+) ***(BQ)_(3) complex shows bright green EL which has intensity comparable to the best results observed for scandium complexes with other organic ligands.
