Deficiency of Adenomatous polyposis Coli protein in sporadic colorectal adenomas and its associations with clinical phenotype and histology

AIM： To evaluate the frequency of the loss of the Adenomatous polyposis Coil （ApC） protein and to compare the ApC status with the characteristics of colorectal adenomas. MeTHODS： Immunohistochemical analysis of the ApC protein was performed on 118 adenomas and the results were compared with parameters of malignant potential, location of adenomas, macroscopic appearance and age of the patients. ReSULTS： A complete loss of the ApC protein was found in 28 （24%） adenomas, while 90 （76%） were ApC positive. The mean size of adenomas was 13.5± 14.2 mm （95% CI 10.5-16.5） in ApC-positive, and 13.8 ±15.5 mm （95% CI 7.8-19.8） in ApC-negative adenomas （p = 0.364）. Statistical analysis revealed no difference between ApC-positive and negative adenomas as to the histological type （p = 0.327） and grade of dysplasia （p =0.494）. We found that even advanced adenomas did not differ in their ApC status from the non-advanced tumors （p = 0.414）. Finally, no difference was found when the location （p = 0.157）, macroscopic appearance （p = 0.571） and age of patients （p = 0.438） were analysed and compared between both ApC positive and negative adenomas. COnCLUSIOn： Most adenomas expressed full-length ApC protein, suggesting that protein expression is not a reliable marker for assessment of ApC gene mutation. Complete loss of ApC protein did not influence morphology, location, or appearance of adenomas, nor was it affected by the patient＇s age.

Background:Methane production and fatty acids(FA)biohydrogenation in the rumen are two main constraints in ruminant production causing environmental burden and reducing food product *** functions can be modulated by the biologically active compounds(BACs)of plant origins as shown in several studies *** in methane emission,modulation of FA composition with positive impact on the ruminant *** amboinicus Lour.(CAL)contains high concentration of polyphenols that may potentially reduce methane production and modulate ruminal biohydrogenation of unsaturated *** study aimed to investigate the effect of BAC of Coleus amboinicus Lour.(CAL)fed to growing lambs on ruminal methane production,biohydrogenation of unsaturated FA and meat *** this study,the in vitro experiment aiming at determining the most effective CAL dose for in vivo experiments was followed by two in vivo experiments in rumen-cannulated rams and growing *** 1(RUSITeC)comprised of control and three experimental diets differing in CAL content(10%,15%,and 20%of the total diet).The two in vivo experiments were conducted on six growing,rumen-cannulated lambs(exp.2)and 16 growing lambs(exp.3).Animals were assigned into the control(COn)and experimental(20%of CAL)*** parameters were examined in vitro(pH,ammonia and vFA concentrations,protozoa,methanogens and select bacteria populations)and in vivo(methane production,digestibility,ruminal microorganism populations,meat quality,fatty acids profiles in rumen fluid and meat,transcript expression of 5 genes in meat).Results:CAL lowered in vitro methane production by 51%.In the in vivo exp.3,CAL decreased methane production by 20%compared with the COn group,which corresponded to reduction of total methanogen counts by up to 28%in all experiments,notably *** exp.3,CAL increased or tended to increase populations of some rumen bacteria(Ruminococcus albus,Megasphaera elsdenii,Butyrivibr

It is well known the effect of fertilizer applications in haplic Luvisols after crop production, but long term changes in precipitation and soil organic carbon are not well documented. Study aimed to determine the effect of precipitation and fertilization （npKCaMg） on the changes in soil organic carbon （SOC） in a long-term field experiment set up in nyirlugos （nyirs6g region, Hungary： n： 47°41′60″ and e： 22°2′80″ since 1962） on a haplic Luvisol. over the 40 year period, from 1962 to 2002, SOC pool values ranged between 2.32 and 3.36 mg kg-1. On the untreated control plots the values remained nearly constant （3.31 mg kg-1, ± 0.29 mg kg1 and 0.52 mg kg-1）. npKCaMg fertilization resulted in a significant （p 〈 0.001） decline （16.6%） in SOC in comparison to the control plots in the Ist 20-year interval, while in the 2nd 20-year period a significant （p 〈 0.001） increased （up to 31.9%） was noticed. During the 40 experimental years the seasonal correlations （R2 among SOC （mg kgl）, WHy and SHy precipitation （mm） ranged from 0.3343 to 0.9078 （on the p 〈 0.001 significance level）. The correlations （R2） on the influence of npKCaMg fertilization on SOC （mg kg-1） and precipitation （mm） were significant （p 〈 0.001）： the means for WHy, SHy and over the 40 years were 0.4691, 0.6171 and 0.6582, respectively. Organic carbon reserves （mg kg-1） in soils decreased linearly as precipitation increased （from 3.22 to 7.27 mm yr-1）. In case this trend-increasing precipitation caused by climate change reduces SOC in arable soils-will continue, and is aggravated by warming temperatures and a more altering climate （as predicted by climate change forecasts）, the livelihoods of many Hungarian and european farmers may be substantially altered.

Flux pileup region(FpR)is located behind the dipolarization front(DF)and is formed during the reconnection in the outflow *** the FpR,the magnetic field Bz component is large and the whistler waves are observed *** pitch angle scattering is suggested as the primary mechanism responsible for the generation of *** the FpR convected toward the earth during the substorm period,it is obstructed by the dipole field near the geosychronus orbit to form the near-earth FpR,which is sometimes called the plasma *** from the structureless whistlers in the tail FpR,we find that the whistlers inside the near-earth FpR can be discrete *** the upper band and low band choruses are observed with the upper band has large propagation angle and the low band has small propagation *** notice that the rising-tone chorus can evolve to be falling-tone chorus withineconds.

The objective of this study is to investigate the potential causes of widespread Larix sibirica *** observed in the Khentii massif of northern *** ratio of deadwood to living trees in affected stands in the goricho region,the southernmost study site situated close to the gobi Desert,was as high as 3.6:*** fluctuations monitored over 2 years using electrical impedance spectrometry revealed that the goricho study site had higher soil moisture levels than the two less affected sites Barun Bayan and Dzun *** soil moisture was recorded in an area characterized by highly skeletal soils,ones with more than 35%by volume of rock fragments,and comparatively shallow soil horizons,from valley to *** layer of permafrost influencing hydrogeological processes is much deeper in the goricho region compared to the undisturbed study *** analysis confirmed a significant number of dead *** on sites with developed *** forest stands,however damaged,grow in this region on well-drained scree slopes or on rocky *** mass mortality observed for *** may be directly linked to accelerated permafrost thaw in the area bordered by the Tuul and the Terelj *** assumption is that *** root system necrosis occurred as a result of long-term waterlogging of developed soils with high spatial heterogeneity,normally able to absorb high quantities of *** areas unaffected were scree fields and rocky bastions characterized by adequate *** of our findings support the primary stages of large-scale permafrost thaw,i.e.,correlating increases in soil moisture with increasing permafrost active layer thickness.

Background. Recurrent ovarian cancer (ovCA) has become the model for ca ncer as a chronic disease, yet little is known about what motivates patients and physic ians in treatment choices. Methods. We investigated the attitudes of patients wi th epithelial ovCA and staff towards palliative chemotherapy for recurrent ovCA with a cross-sectional questionnaire study. Results. Instruments were developed and piloted in 15 patients. This exploratory study reflects substantial bias in the sample populations. One hundred twenty-two patients and 37 staff were enro lled in the US and 39 patients and 25 staff were enrolled in the UK. UK patients had a lower educational status (p = 0.001), lower stage disease (p = 0.025), an d less prior lines of chemotherapy (p patients had recurrent ov CA and 67%of staff were physicians. Seventy-three percent of patients recalled a discussion about prognosis and 74%wanted to know details of the prognosis fo r a typical patient (US = UK). Most patients (48%) thought that their physician was realistic, and 57%of staff felt that they were optimistic. The vastmajorit y of both staff and patients thought that patients positively reinterpreted what they were told. Five percent of staff thought that palliative care was incomp atiblewhen considering chemotherapy as an option for their second recurrence o f ovCA, compared with 36%of US patients, significantly more than the 12%of UK patients (p = 0.007). patients thought that standard chemotherapy for a second r ecurrence of ovCA produced remission in 50%and cure in 15%of patients. Staff r eported 20%and 0%, respectively. Fifty percent of patients and 57%of staff wo uldwant chemotherapy as an asymptomatic patient with a normal CT and a rising CA -125. patients generally appear to be very tolerant of grade II chemotherapy-i nduced toxicity with staff being less tolerant than patients of nausea, anorexia , diarrhea, and rash.
