Optical pulling prov.des.a new degree of freedom in optical *** is.generally believ.d that long-range optical pulling forces.cannot be generated by the gradient of the incident ***,we theoretically propos. and numerically demons.rate the realization of a long-range optical pulling force s.emming from a s.lf-induced gradient field in the manipulated *** analogy to potential barriers.in quantum tunnelling,we us. a photonic band gap des.gn in order to obtain the intens.ty gradients.ins.de a manipulated object placed in a photonic crys.al wav.guide,thereby achiev.ng a pulling *** the us.al s.attering-type optical pulling forces.the propos.d gradient-field approach does.not require precis. elimination of the reflection from the manipulated *** particular,the Eins.ein-Laub formalis. is.applied to des.gn this.unconv.ntional gradient *** magnitude of the force can be enhanced by a factor of up to 50 at the optical res.nance of the manipulated object in the wav.guide,making it ins.ns.tiv. to *** dev.loped approach helps.to break the limitation of s.attering forces.to obtain longrange optical pulling for manipulation and s.rting of nanoparticles.and other *** dev.loped principle of us.ng the band gap to obtain a pulling force may als. be applied to other types.of wav.s.s.ch as.acous.ic or water wav.s.which are important for numerous.applications.

We determined whether the inclus.on of 100 g/kg dry matter of grape pomace s.lage (GPs. and grape pomace bran (GPB) as.s.bs.itutes.for other traditional fiber s.urces.in the diet of s.eers.(Charolais.x Nellore) would improv. carcas. characteris.ics. meat quality and compos.tion, and s.elf life. Twenty-four animals.(248 ± 19.32 kg of initial body weight) were fed a high concentrate diet for 121 days. Carcas. characteris.ics.were meas.red, and the longis.imus.dors. mus.le was.analyzed for fatty acid (FA) profile and compos.tion. The meat was.s.iced and s.ored in air-permeable packages.for 10 days. On each s.mpling day (d 1, 3, 7, and 10), oxidativ. s.ability, bacterial load, lipid and protein oxidation, and s.aining were analyzed. The experimental diets.influenced the pH of cold carcas.es.only. The GPs.group had a higher pH than the control. The GPs.and GPB groups.s.owed improv.d oxidant s.atus.(i.e., lower lipid peroxidation and concentrations.of reactiv. oxygen s.ecies.were in the meat of both groups.than in control). On the firs. day of s.orage, the antioxidant enzyme glutathione s.trans.eras. activ.ty was.more s.gnificant in the meat of the GPs.and GPB groups.than in the control. The bacterial loads.in the meat were attenuated by GPs.inclus.on;there were lower total coliform counts.and a trend toward lower counts.for enterobacteria in the control group. The diets.altered the FA profile of the meat;i.e., the GPB diet allowed for a more s.gnificant amount of the n-6 omegas.in the meat, while the GPs.diet s.owed a tendency for a more s.gnificant amount of n-6 and 9 omegas. Both diets.(GPs.and GPB) increas.d the amounts.of long-chain FAs. The GPs.diet decreas.d s.turated FA lev.ls. We conclude that the dietary treatments.GPs.and GPB are a promis.ng alternativ. to maintain meat quality s.andards.throughout in real-world retail conditions.
