Genetic diversity for mycorrhizal symbiosis and phosphate transporters in rice

Phosphorus （P） is a major plant nutrient and developing crops with higher P-use efficiency is an important breeding goal. In this context we have conducted a comparative study of irrigated and rainfed rice varieties to assess genotypic differences in colonization with arbuscular mycorrhizal （AM） fungi and expression of different P trans- porter genes. Plants were grown in three different soil samples from a rice farm in the Philippines. The data show that AM symbiosis in all varieties was established after 4 weeks of growth under aerobic conditions and that, in soil derived from a rice paddy, natural AM populations recovered within 6 weeks. The analysis of AM marker genes （AM1, AM3, AM14） and P transporter genes for the direct Pi uptake （PT2, PT6） and AM-mediated pathway （PTll, PT13） were largely in agreement with the observed root AM colonization providing a useful tool for diversity studies. Interestingly, delayed AM colonization was observed in the aus-type rice varieties which might be due to their different root structure and might confer an advantage for weed competition in the field. The data further showed that P-starvation induced root growth and expression of the high-affinity P transporter PT6 was highest in the irrigated variety IR66 which a]so maintained grain yield under P-deficient field conditions.

The article examines the existing infrastructure of open common spaces within two New Belgrade mass housing blocks(Blocks 23 and 70a)through a typo-morphological *** spaces between the buildings,although the most neglected,underused,and deteriorated components of mass housing neighbourhoods,are at the same time crucial to the quality,vitality and integrated governance of these *** represent the primary tangible commons in cities and *** question of urban commons is increasingly present in scientific literature,urban and architectural ***,approaches exploring the spatiality of the urban commons are scarce,leading to insufficient understanding of the spatial aspect and potentials of the already existing ***,this study includes(1)identification,typological decoding and classification of the common spaces,focusing on the case of New Belgrade blocks,followed by(2)analysis of the spatial patterns and integration of the identified spaces within the *** study confirms the complexity and diverse typology of the common *** finds that the in-between,common spaces contribute to higher integration of different segments of the *** open common spaces have an essential role in humanisation of the blocks,and thus the quality of life in the blocks as integrated *** findings indicate that the spatial setting of the open common spaces in New Belgrade blocks allows for(re)emergence of collective practices,leading to inclusive and integrated rehabilitation of the neighbourhoods.

The impact of salps(Salpa thompsoni) on the Antarctic krill population(Euphausia superba): an individual-based modelling study

Background Krill（Euphausia superba） and salps（Salpa thompsoni） are key macrozooplankton grazers in the Southern Ocean ecosystem. However, due to differing habitat requirements, both species previously exhibited little spatial overlap. With ongoing climate change-induced seawater temperature increase and regional sea ice loss, salps can now extend their spatial distribution into historically krill-dominated areas and increase rapidly due to asexual reproduction when environmental conditions are favorable. Understanding the potential effects on krill is crucial, since krill is a species of exceptional trophic significance in the Southern Ocean food web. Negative impacts on krill could trigger cascading effects on its predators and prey. To address this question, we combined two individual-based models on salps and krill, which describe the whole life cycle of salp individuals and the dynamic energy budget of individual krill. The resulting new model PEKRIS（PErformance of KRIll vs. Salps） simulates a krill population for 100 years under varying chlorophyll-a concentrations in the presence or absence of *** All of the investigated krill population properties（abundance, mean length, and yearly egg production） were significantly impacted by the presence of salps. On the other hand, salp density was not impacted if krill were present. The medians of krill population properties deviated during variable maximum chlorophyll-a density per year when salps were introduced by-99.9%（-234 individuals per 1000 m3） for krill density,-100%（-22,062 eggs per 1000 m3） for krill eggs and-0.9%（-0.3 mm） for mean length of *** If both species compete for the same food resource in a closed space, salps seem to inhibit krill populations. BACKGROUND Giant hepatic cavernous hemangioma with multiple satellite nodules is a rare subtype of hepatic cavernous hemangioma,the most common vascular liver *** report on a tumor with unusual histologic features:(1)Finger-like infiltration pattern;(2)lack of encapsulation;(3)blurred tumor/liver interface;and(4)massive satellitosis-referring to the article“Hepatic cavernous hemangioma:underrecognized associated histologic features”.CASE SUMMARY A 60-year-old man presented with increasing uncharacteristic abdominal discomfort and mildly elevated blood parameters of acute *** revealed an unclear,giant liver tumor of the left liver lobe.A massive vascular tumor with extensive satellitosis broadly infiltrating the adjacent liver parenchyma was resected via hemihepatectomy of segmentsⅡ/Ⅲ.Histopathological diagnosis was giant hepatic cavernous hemangioma with multiple satellite nodules,featuring unusual characteristics hardly portrayed in the ***,this particular morphology can explain the difficult pre-and perioperative diagnosis of a vascular liver tumor that is usually readily identifiable by modern imaging *** This case emphasizes the exact histological workup of tumor and tumor-induced parenchyma changes in radiologically unclassifiable liver tumors.

In the present work, it will be shown that the dimensionless number 137 of the fine-structure constant α demands a quantization of space. For this purpose, we refer to a volume constant of electromagnetic processes, which takes effect as a volume quantum. This involves not only a re-evaluation of the Dirac equation but also, and above all, a determination of Einstein’s velocity vector as the fundamental property of these processes. A prerequisite is the linking of the hydrogen spectrum with the hydrogen nucleus.

Omicron Infections in Otolaryngology Practice: A Retrospective Observational Study on Testing, Symptoms and Vaccination Status

Background: With the appearance of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant the high rate of vaccination breakthroughs showed that current vaccines against COVID-19 can no longer provide adequate protection against infection. However, it is still assumed that vaccination might have a positive effect on the course of the disease. In Germany, general practitioners and specialists are usually the first treatment providers for acute illnesses. In addition, patients with infections of the upper respiratory tract often primarily consult an ear, nose and throat specialist. Most of the Omicron-infected people have a mild course of the disease and, if necessary, receive medical care on an outpatient basis. Little is known about the effectiveness of corona vaccinations on Omicron infections in relation to the clinical symptoms. In our outpatient office, we recorded a sharp increase of corona positive Omicron-infections in the beginning of 2022, despite of vaccinations against COVID-19. In a retrospective analysis, we evaluated the data of our SARS-CoV-2 tested patients with regard to clinical symptoms reported and vaccination status. The focus was particularly on the question to what extent the vaccination status in the case of Omicron infections influences the symptoms of the disease. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the data of all patients in the first quarter of 2022 who were suspected for COVID-19. At that time, the Omicron variant was dominant in Germany. Clinical symptoms, cycle threshold (Ct) values, and the vaccination status were recorded. Symptomatic patients who tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 served as a control group. Results: Of the total cohort (n = 353), 241 (68%) patients were tested SARS-CoV-2 positive. The symptoms of the corona-positive patients were essentially similar to those of a mild to moderate cold, but compared to SARS-CoV-2-negative patients (n = 69) with a clear shift in favor of fever (35% versus 16%), cough (76% versus 52%) and increased feeling of

Destabilization of acrosome and elastase influence mediate the release of secretory phospholipase A2 from human spermatozoa

Aim： To determine the cellular distribution of secretory phospholipase A2 （sPLA2） in dependence on the acrosomal state and under the action of elastase released under inflammatory processes from leukocytes. Methods： Acrosome reaction of spermatozoa was triggered by calcimycin. Human leukocyte elastase was used to simulate inflammatory conditions. To visualize the distribution of sPLA2 and to determine the acrosomal state, immunofluorescence techniques and lectin binding combined with confocal laser scanning fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry were used. Results： Although sPLA2 was detected at the acrosome and tail regions in intact spermatozoa, it disappeared from the head region after triggering the acrosome reaction. This release of sPLA2 was associated with enhanced binding of annexin V-fluoroscein isothiocyanate （FITC） to spermatozoa surfaces, intercalation of ethidium-homodimer I, and binding of FITC-labelled concanavalin A at the acrosomal region. Spermatozoa from healthy subjects treated with elastase were characterized by release of sPLA2, disturbance of acrosome structure, and loss of vitality. Conclusion： The ability of spermatozoa to release secretory phospholipase A2 is related to the acrosomal state. Premature destabi- lization of the acrosome and loss of sPLA2 can occur during silent inflammations in the male genital tract. The distribution pattern of sPLA2 in intact spermatozoa might be an additional parameter for evaluating sperm quality.
