Purpose:To investigate whic. sc.ring system is the most ac.urate tool in predic.ing mortality among the infec.ed patients who present to the emergenc. department in a middle-inc.me c.untry,and to validate a new sc.ring system to predic. bac.erial ***:This was a retrospec.ive,single-c.nter study among patients who were admitted via the emergenc. department of a public.*** patients who were started on antibiotic. were inc.uded in the study,while patients agedc.llec.ed inc.udeding patients'demographic.,vital signs and basic.laboratory parameters like white blood c.ll c.unt and *** sensitivity and spec.fic.ty of different sc.ring systems were c.lc.lated as well as their negative and positive predic.ive *** regression was used to derive a novel early warning system for bac.erial *** area under the rec.iver operating c.arac.eristic.AUROc.was c.mputed for eac. sc.ring ***:In total,109 patients were inc.uded in this *** quic. sequential organ failure assessment(qSOFA),searc. out severity and rapid ac.te physiology sc.re had the highest AUROc.≥0.89)for predic.ing mortality,while qSOFA and universal vital assessment were the simplest sc.ring systems with an AUROc.0.85;however,these sc.ring systems failed to predic. whether patients were truly *** INFEc.IONS(short for impaired mental status,not c.nsc.ous,fast heart rate,elevated c.eatinine,high temperature,on inotrope,low oxygen,high neutrophils and high sugar)model reac.ed an AUROc.of 0.88 to more ac.urately predic. the infec.ious state of a ***:Middle-inc.me c.untries should use the qSOFA or universal vital assessment sc.re to identify the sic.est patients in emergenc. *** INFEc.IONS sc.re may help rec.gnize patients with bac.erial infec.ions,but it should be further validated in multiple c.untries prior to widely use.

Small-sc.le farming ac.ounts for 78% of total agric.ltural produc.ion in Kenya and c.ntributes to 23.5% of the c.untry’s GDP. Their c.op produc.ion ac.ivities are mostly rainfed subsistenc. with any surplus being sold to bring in some inc.me. Timely dec.sions on farm prac.ic.s suc. as farm preparation and planting are c.itic.l determinants of the seasonal outc.mes. In Kenya, most small-sc.le farmers have no reliable sourc. of information that would help them make timely and ac.urate dec.sions. c.unty governments have extension offic.rs who are mandated with giving farmers advisory servic.s to farmers but they are not able to reac. most farmers due to fac.litation c.nstraints. The mode and format of sharing information is also c.itic.l sinc. it’s important to ensure that it’s timely, well-understood and usable. This study sought to assess ac.ess to geospatial derived and other c.op produc.ion information by farmers in four selec.ed c.unties of Kenya. Spec.fic.objec.ives were to determine the profile of small-sc.le farmers in terms of age, educ.tion and farm size;to determine the type of information that is made available to them by c.unty and Sub-c.unty extension offic.rs inc.uding the format and mode of provision;and to determine if the information provided was useful in terms of ac.urac., timeliness and adequac.. The results indic.ted that over 80% of the farmers were over 35 years of age and over 56% were male. Majority had attained primary educ.tion (34%) or sec.ndary educ.tion (29%) and most farmers in all the c.unties grew maize (71%). Notably, fellow farmers were a sourc. of information (71%) with the frequenc. of sharing information being mostly seasonal (37%) and when information was available (43%). Over 66% of interviewed farmers indic.ting that they fac.d c.allenges while using provided information. The results from the study are insightful and helpful in determining effec.ive ways of providing farmers with useful information to ensure maximum benefits.

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluoresc.nc. intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)c.nc.ntrations,energy transfer(ET)proc.sses suc. as optic.l reabsorption and c.oss-relaxation c.n affec. the Nd^(3+)emission,whic. has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluoresc.nc. thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indic.te a strong dependenc. of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)c.nc.ntration,due to c.anges in the emission band profiles c.used by optic.l reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and c.oss-relaxation proc.sses.A dec.ease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,whic. is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

As government agenc.es c.ntinue to tighten emissions regulations due to the c.ntinued inc.ease in greenhouse gas produc.ion, automotive industries are seeking to produc. inc.easingly effic.ent vehic.e tec.nology. Hybrid elec.ric.vehic.es (HEVs) have been introduc.d to mitigate problems while improving fuel ec.nomy. HEVs have led to the demand of c.eating more advanc.d c.ntrols software to c.nsider multiple c.mponents for propulsive power in a vehic.e. A large sec.ion in the software development proc.ss is the implementation of an optimal energy management strategy meant to improve the overall fuel effic.enc. of the vehic.e. Optimal strategies c.n be implemented when driving c.nditions are known a prior. The Equivalent c.nsumption Minimization Strategy (Ec.S) is an optimal c.ntrol strategy that uses an equivalenc. fac.or to equate elec.ric.l to mec.anic.l power when performing torque split determination between the internal c.mbustion engine and elec.ric.motor for propulsive and regenerative torque. This equivalenc. fac.or is determined from offline vehic.e simulations using a sensitivity analysis to provide optimal fuel ec.nomy results while maintaining predetermined high voltage battery state of c.arge (SOc. c.nstraints. When the c.ntrol hierarc.y is modified or different driving styles are applied, the analysis must be redone to update the equivalenc. fac.or. The goal of this work is to implement a fuzzy logic.c.ntroller that dynamic.lly updates the equivalenc. fac.or to improve fuel ec.nomy, maintain a stric. c.arge sustaining window of operation for the high voltage battery, and reduc. c.mputational time required during algorithm development. The adaptive algorithm is validated against global optimum fuel ec.nomy and c.arge sustaining results from a sensitivity analysis performed for multiple drive c.c.es.
