Gram-negative sepsis is a severe clinical syndrome associated with significant morbidity and ***(LPS),expressed on Gram-negative bacteria,is a potent pro-inflammatory toxin that induces inflammation and coagulation via two separate receptor *** is Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4),expressed on cell surfaces and in endosomes,and the other is the cytosolic receptor caspase-11(caspases-4 and-5 in hu-mans).Extracellular LPS binds to high mobility group box 1(HMGB1)protein,a cytokine-like *** HMGB1-LPS complex is transported via receptor for advanced glycated end products(RAGE)-endocytosis to the endolysosomal system to reach the cytosolic LPS receptor caspase-11 to induce HMGB1 release,inflammation,and coagulation that may cause multi-organ *** insight that LPS needs HMGB1 assistance to generate severe inflammation has led to successful therapeutic results in preclinical Gram-negative sepsis studies target-ing ***,to date,no clinical studies have been performed based on this ***1 is also actively released by peripheral sensory nerves and this mechanism is fundamental for the initiation and prop-agation of inflammation during tissue *** is achieved when other neurons actively restrict the inflammatory response via monitoring by the central nervous system and the vagus nerve through the cholinergic anti-inflammatory *** neuronal control in Gram-negative sepsis needs further studies since a deeper understanding of the interplay between HMGB1 and acetylcholine may have beneficial therapeutic ***,we review the synergistic overlapping mechanisms of LPS and HMGB1 and discuss future treatment opportunities in Gram-negative sepsis.

Subwavelength-diameter silica wire for light in-coupling to silicon-based waveguide

Coupling between subwavelength-diameter silica wires and silicon-based waveguides is studied using the parallel three-dimensional （3D） finite-different time-domain method. Conventional butt-coupling to a silica-substrated silicon wire waveguide gives above 40% transmission at the wavelength range from 1300 to 1750 nm with good robustness against axial misalignments. Slow light can be generated by counterdirectional coupling between a silica wire and a two-dimensional （2D） silicon photonic crystal slab waveguide. Through dispersion-band engineering, 82% transmission is achieved over a coupling distance of 50 lattice constants, The group velocity is estimated as 1/35 of the light speed in vacuum.

High mobility group box 1(HMGB1)is an evolutionarily conserved non-histone chromatin-binding *** infection or injury,activated immune cells and damaged cells release HMGB1 into the extracellular space,where HMGB1 functions as a proinflammatory mediator and contributes importantly to the pathogenesis of inflammatory *** studies reveal that infl ammasomes,intracellular protein complexes,critically regulate HMGB1 release from activated immune cells in response to a variety of exogenous and endogenous danger *** stranded RNA dependent kinase(PKR),an intracellular danger-sensing molecule,physically interacts with inflammasome components and is important for infl ammasome activation and HMGB1 ***,these studies not only unravel novel mechanisms of HMGB1 release during infl ammation,but also provide potential therapeutic targets to treat HMGB1-related infl ammatory diseases.

This paper reviews the latest research progress in the additive manufacturing(AM)process of 18%nickel maraging steels,which involves laser-based powder bed fusion(L-PBF),laser-based directed energy deposition(L-DED),and wire arc additive manufacturing(WAAM).The emphasis is on the defects,structure,and mechanical properties of the additive manufactured 18%nickel maraging *** first,this article outlines the influences of the processing parameters of AM techniques on the defects formed in the fabricated parts,in terms of the L-PBF and *** macrostructure and microstructure characteristics of as-built and heat-treated 18%nickel maraging steel are then described in ***,the mechanical properties of as-built and heat-treated 18%nickel maraging steel are assessed,such as their tensile,hardness,impact toughness,and fatigue ***,future directions for work on the AM of 18%nickel maraging steel are provided.

The Mesoproterozoic in the Nordic countries

During the Mesoproterozoic, central Fennoscandia and Laurentia (Greenland) were characterized by a weakly extensional stress regime, as evident from episodic rapakivi granites, dolerite dykes, continental rift intrusives, sandstone basins and continental flood basalts. Along the southwestern active margin of Fennoscandia, the 1.64-1.52 Ga Gothian and 1.52-1.48 Ga Tele-markian accretionary events resulted in oceanwards continental growth. The 1.47-1.42 Ga Hallandian-Danopolonian event included high-grade metamorphism and granite magmatism in southern Fennoscandia. The pre-Sveconorwegian 1.34-1.14 Ga period is characterized by bimodal magmatism associated with sedimentation, possibly reflecting transcurrent tectonics. The Sveconorwegian otogeny involved polyphase imbrication of terranes between 1.14 and 0.97 Ga, as a result of a collision between Baltica and another major plate, followed by relaxation and post-collisional magmatism between 0.96 and 0.90 Ga. Recent geologic data support classical models restoring the Sveconorwegian belt directly to the east of the Grenville belt of Laurentia at 1.0 Ga. Fragments of Paleo- to Mesoproterozoic crust showing late Grenvillian-Sveconorwegian (1.00-0.92 Ga) magmatism and/or metamorphism are exposed in several tectonic levels in the Caledonides of Scandinavia, Svalbard and East Greenland, on both sides of the inferred lapetus suture. Linking these fragments into a coherent late-Grenvillian tectonic model, however, require additional study.

当前人类的发展状态被视为是不可持续的,若不进行相应的调整,局势将难以逆转。为实现这一改变,我们亟须调整对本体论及自然的认知方式。首先,我们需要认识到人类本身就是自然的一部分。其次,我们需要修正对历史经验及自然观的理解。实现社会的可持续发展,不能仅依靠科学的论证,而要接纳自然的美学。这是一个感性的认知过程,并无科学的标准可言,需要通过人类自然体验的不断重复来实现。自然对人类的影响深远且意义重大,然而却常被我们忽视。人类接触自然、感受自然的好处众多,可简要概括为:提升人多角度理解世界的能力,从而让我们理解自己在自然中的位置以及与自然的关系。尽管自然危机日益严峻、生物多样性持续降低,当人们采取的行动都收效甚微,便更倾向于接受“事情本就是这样”,而失去了持续行动的意愿。然而,当我们视人类为自然的一部分,通过自然美学的感知,我们可以认识到人类的凝聚力,从而获得行动的动力。这意味着我们要接纳自然本真的面貌,包括其中不尽美观的、不尽宜人的部分,以及由人类农业生产和工业活动所带来的荒废的景观。通过自然的美学感知,我们有机会构建出一个与生物共存的绿色世界。作为风景园林设计师,我们的职责并非创造出一个有固定范式的成品,而更多在于为场地未来不可预测的且不受束缚的发展进程构建一套具有适应性的框架。自然的体验是个性化的、无法估量的,但也是可以与他人共享的,这些体验对于我们个人的福祉和人类的未来都至关重要。

Risk factors and outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer undergoing surgical exploration without resection due to metastatic disease:A national cohort study

Background:Unresectable disease is sometimes diagnosed during surgery in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).This study aimed to identify preoperative risk factors for metastatic disease diagnosed at surgical exploration and to investigate and compare survival in resected and nonresected ***:Patients were identified from the Swedish National Pancreatic and Periampullary Cancer Registry *** of metastatic disease were evaluated with a multivariable logistic regression model,and survival was evaluated with Kaplan-Meier estimates and log-rank ***:In total,1938 patients with PDAC were scheduled for *** unresectable situation was diagnosed intraoperatively in 399 patients(20.6%),including 234(12.1%)with metastasized *** risk factors for metastasis were involuntary weight loss(OR=1.72;95%CI:1.27-2.33)and elevated carbohydrate antigen 19-9(CA19-9)(35-599 U/m L,OR=1.79,95%CI:1.11-2.89;≥600 U/m L,OR=3.24,95%CI:2.04-5.17).Overall survival was lower among patients with metastasized disease than that among patients with a resectable tumor(P<0.001).Conclusions:Involuntary weight loss and an elevation of CA19-9 are preoperative risk factors for diagnosing metastasized disease during surgical exploration.

Dynamic energy system modeling using hybrid physics-based and machinelearning encoder–decoder models

Three model configurations are presented for multi-step time series predictions of the heat absorbed by thewater and steam in a thermal power plant. The models predict over horizons of 2, 4, and 6 steps into thefuture, where each step is a 5-minute increment. The evaluated models are a pure machine learning model, anovel hybrid machine learning and physics-based model, and the hybrid model with an incomplete dataset. Thehybrid model deconstructs the machine learning into individual boiler heat absorption units: economizer, waterwall, superheater, and reheater. Each configuration uses a gated recurrent unit (GRU) or a GRU-based encoder–decoder as the deep learning architecture. Mean squared error is used to evaluate the models compared totarget values. The encoder–decoder architecture is over 11% more accurate than the GRU only models. Thehybrid model with the incomplete dataset highlights the importance of the manipulated variables to the *** hybrid model, compared to the pure machine learning model, is over 10% more accurate on averageover 20 iterations of each model. Automatic differentiation is applied to the hybrid model to perform a localsensitivity analysis to identify the most impactful of the 72 manipulated variables on the heat absorbed in theboiler. The models and sensitivity analyses are used in a discussion about optimizing the thermal power plant.
