Stability of three-dimensional printable foam concrete as function of surfactant characteristics

Extrudability is one of the most critical factors when designing three-dimensional printable foam *** extrusion process likely affects the foam stability which necessitates the investigation into surfactant properties particularly for concrete mixes with high foam *** many studies have been conducted on traditional foam concrete in this context,studies on three-dimensional printed foam concrete are *** address this research gap,the effects of surfactant characteristics on the stability,extrudability,and buildability of three-dimensional printed foam concrete mixes with two design densities(1000 and 1300 kg/m^(3))using two different surfactants and stabilizers(synthetic-based sodium lauryl sulfate stabilized with carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt,and natural-based hingot surfactant stabilized with xanthan gum)were investigated in this *** density tests were conducted before and after the extrusion to determine stability of the foam *** results were then correlated with surfactant qualities,such as viscosity and surface tension,to understand the importance of key parameters in three-dimensional printing of foam *** on the experimental results,surfactant solu1tion with viscosity exceeding 5 m Pa·s and surface tension lower than 31 mN/m was recommended to yield stable three-dimensional printable foam concrete ***,the volume of foam in the mix significantly affected the printability *** traditional foam concrete,the variation in the stabilizer concentration and density of concrete were found to have insignificant effect on the fresh-state-characteristics(slump,slump flow,and static yield stress)and air void microstructure of the stable mixes.

CompactChain:an efficient stateless chain for UTXO-model blockchain

In this work,we propose a stateless blockchain called CompactChain,which compacts the entire state of the UTXO(Unspent Transaction Output)based blockchain systems into two RSA *** first accumulator is called Transaction Output(TXO)commitment which represents the TXO *** second one is called Spent Transaction Output(STXO)commitment which represents the STXO *** this work,we discuss three algorithms:(i)To update the TXO and STXO commitments by the *** miner also provides the proofs for the correctness of the updated commitments;(ii)To prove the transaction’s validity by providing a membership witness in TXO commitment and non-membership witness against STXO commitment for a coin being spent by a user;(iii)To update the witness for the coin that is not yet spent;The experimental results evaluate the performance of the CompactChain in terms of time taken by a miner to update the commitments and time taken by a validator to verify the commitments and validate the *** compare the performance of CompactChain with the existing state-of-the-art works on stateless *** shows a reduction in commitments update complexity and transaction witness size which inturn reduces the mempool size and propagation latency without compromising the system throughput(Transactions per second(TPS)).

Oxide to metal conversion is one of the most energy-intensive steps in the value chain for metals *** oxide membrane(SOM)electrolysis process provides a general route for directly reducing various metal oxides to their respective metals,alloys,or *** of its lower energy use and ability to use inert anode resulting in zero carbon emission,SOM electrolysis process emerges as a promising technology that can replace the state-of-the-art metals production *** this paper,a careful study of the SOM electrolysis process using equivalent DC circuit modeling is performed and correlated to the experimental results.A discussion on relative importance of each resistive element in the circuit and on possible ways of lowering the rate-limiting resistive elements provides a generic guideline for designing optimum SOM electrolysis cells.

Irritable bowel syndrome and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth:Meaningful association or unnecessary hype

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition characterized by abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, and altered stool form and passage. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is a condition in which there is overgrowth of bacteria in small bowel in excess of 105 colony forming units per milliliter on culture of the upper gut aspirate. Frequency of SIBO varied from 4%-78% among patients with IBS and from 1%-40% among controls. Higher frequency in some studies might be due to fallacious criteria [post-lactulose breath-hydrogen rise 20 PPM above basal within 90 min (early-peak)]. Glucose hydrogen breath test (GHBT) has a low sensitivity to diagnose SIBO. Hence, studies based on GHBT might have under-estimated frequency of SIBO. Therefore, it is important to analyze these studies carefully to evaluate whether the reported association between IBS and SIBO is over or under-projected. This review evaluates studies on association between SIBO and IBS, discordance between different studies, their strength and weakness including methodological issues and evidence on therapeutic manipulation of gut flora on symptoms of IBS.

A review on recent advancements in biodegradable Mg-Ca alloys

The binary Mg-Ca alloys are drawing increasing attention as temporary implant materials because of their excellent biocompatibility,biodegradability, and good mechanical properties. However, their applications are limited due to their high degradation rates in the human physiological environment, the consequent release of hydrogen gas, and rapid loss in mechanical properties. Furthermore, biocompatibility depends upon the degradability of the material. Various researchers have demonstrated that these issues can be addressed by control of Ca content, thermo-mechanical processing to obtain suitable microstructures, deposition of surface coatings, etc. In this manuscript, a detailed review of published literature on Mg-Ca alloys is presented. The challenges and future directions of research in this area are also described.

Effects of calcination temperature and time on the Ca3Co4O9 purity when synthesized using starch-assisted sol-gel combustion method

Ca3Co4O9 is a p-type semiconducting material that is well-known for its thermoelectric(TE),magnetic,electronic,and electro-optic *** this study,sol–gel autoignition was used to prepare Ca3Co4O9 at different calcination temperatures(773,873,973,and 1073 K)and time(4,6,8,10,12,and 14 h)using starch as a *** phase and microstructure of the prepared Ca3Co4O9 powder were ***–differential thermal analysis(TGA)confirms that the final weight loss occurred at 1073 K to form Ca3Co4O9 stable *** variable-pressure scanning electron microscopy(VP-SEM)images show that the size of powder particles increases from 1.15 to 1.47μm as calcination time increases from 4 to 12 h,and the size remains almost constant thereafter.A similar pattern is also observed on the increment of the crystallite size and percentage of crystallinity with X-ray diffraction(XRD)*** highest crystallinity is found about 92.9%when the powder was calcinated at 1073 K for 12 and 14 h with 458 and 460Åcrystallite size,*** dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS)analysis demonstrates that the calcinated powder has a high intensity of Ca,Co,and O with uniform ***-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)images prove that there is no distinct lattice distortion defect on the crystal structure.

Certain Curvature Conditions on P-Sasakian Manifolds Admitting a Quater-Symmetric Metric Connection

The authors consider a quarter-symmetric metric connection in a P-Sasakian manifold and study the second order parallel tensor in a P-Sasakian manifold with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection. Then Ricci semisymmetric P-Sasakian manifold with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection is considered. Next the authors study ξ-concircularly flat P-Sasakian manifolds and concircularly semisymmetric P-Sasakian manifolds with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection. Furthermore, the authors study P-Sasakian manifolds satisfying the condition Z(ξ,Y)·S=0,where Z,S are the concircular curvature tensor and Ricci tensor respectively with respect to the quarter-symmetric metric connection. Finally, an example of a 5-dimensional P-Sasakian manifold admitting quarter-symmetric metric connection is constructed.

Ultrasound Assisted Synthesis of Starch Nanocrystals and It’s Applications with Polyurethane for Packaging Film

Starch nanocrystals(SNC)were prepared from maize starch using ultrasound assisted acid *** process takes less time for the generation of SNC,which is advantageous over conventional acid *** synthesized SNC were characterized using X-ray diffraction,dynamic light scattering,zeta potential and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).Particle size and TEM data show that the particles were near to 150 nm,with oval *** SNC with higher surface charge are obtained with this innovative approach as compared to conventional acid *** of high surface charge and oval like morphology,the SNC performed well in reinforcing a polyurethane *** rise in crystallinity by 16%was observed due to ultrasound *** the lower concentration of SNC in nanocomposite film,dynamic mechanical analysis demonstrated meaningful increment in mechanical properties of polyurethane nanocomposite *** decrease in chain slippage over the glass transition temperature was observed because of the SNC reinforcement in polyurethane *** to the conventional acid hydrolysis,the present approach for the synthesis of starch nanocrystals is much faster and easier.

With rampant growth and improvements in drilling technology, drilling of blast holes should no longer be viewed as an arduous sub-process in any mining or excavation process. Instead, it must be viewed as an important opportunity to quickly and accurately measure the geo-mechanical features of the rock mass on-site, much in advance of the downstream operations. It is well established that even the slightest variation in lithology, ground conditions, blast designs vis-a-vis geologic features and explosives performance, results in drastic changes in fragmentation results. Keeping in mind the importance of state-of-the-art measurement-while-drilling （MWD） technique, the current paper focuses on integrating this technique with the blasting operation in order to enhance the blasting designs and results. The paper presents a preliminary understanding of various blasting models, blastability and other related concepts, to review the state-of-the-art advancements and researches done in this area. In light of this, the paper highlights the future needs and implications on drill monitoring systems for improved information to enhnnrp th~ hl^tin~ r^HIt~

Epidemiological and clinical perspectives on irritable bowel syndrome in India, Bangladesh and Malaysia: A review

Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder, common in clinic and in the community. It has a significant impact on both society and patients' quality of life. The epidemiology, clinical presentation, and management of IBS may vary in different geographical regions due to differences in diet, gastrointestinal infection, socio-cultural and psychosocial factors, religious and illness beliefs, symptom perception and reporting. Although previous reviews and consensus reports on IBS in Asia have been published, Asia is quite diverse socio-demographically. In this context, India, Bangladesh and Malaysia share some similarities, including:(1) large proportion of the population living in rural areas;(2) rapid development and associated lifestyle changes in urban areas; and(3) dietary, cultural and religious practices. The present review explores the clinical and epidemiological data on IBS from these three major nations in South and South-East Asia. In-depth review of the literature revealed important differences between IBS in the East, as revealed by studies from these three countries, and the West; these include a predominantly rural profile, differences in bowel habit and symptom profile, raising concern with regards to diagnostic criteria and subtyping of IBS, higher dietary fiber consumption, frequent lactose malabsorption, parasitosis, and possible overlap between post-infectious IBS and tropical sprue. Moreover, the current perception on difference in prevalence of the disorder in these countries, as compared to the West, might be related to variation in survey methods.
