Signals of touch,pressure,pain,temperature,position,and vibration are transmitted from the peripheral nervous system（PNS）to the dorsal horn of the segmental spinal cord via pseudounipolar dorsal root ganglia（DRG）*** information gathering relies on functional integrity of DRG neurons and can be interrupted by PNS injury due to trauma,disease or exposure to drugs, toxins or viral pathogens. Despite the high regenerative capacity of DRG neurons, sensory recovery after PNS injury is often incomplete and severe neuropathic pain may last for years. Although numerous mechanisms of PNS injury have been established, neuropathic pain is refractory to therapy, contributing to the physical and emotional suffering of patients and the enormous economic burden to society.

Pancreatic islet regeneration and some liver biochemical parameters of leaf extracts of Vitex doniana in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic albino rats

Objective:To test two water soluble extracts(aqueous and ethanolic) obtained from the leaves of Vitex doniana in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats for their effects on pancreatic endocrine tissues and serum marker enzymes for a period of 21 ***:A total of 55 rate divided into 11 groups of 5 rats each were assigned into diabetic and non-diabetic- groups and fallowed by a daily administration of ethanolic and aqueous extracts for21 *** 1 was the normal control while group 7 was treated with standard ***:The histopathological studies of the diabetic rats indicated increase in the volume density of islets,percent of β-cells and size of islet in the groups that received the plant extracts,which suggested regeneration of β-cells along with p-eells repairs,as compared with the non-treated diabetic control which showed complete degeneration of the islet *** was significant reduction(P0.01) in the serum activities of marker enzymes was observed for non-diabetic treated *** of total bilirubin,direct bilirubin and unconjugated bilirubin showed that diabetic control group was significantly higher(P0.01) in total bilirubin and direct bilirubin compared with the normal ***:This herbal therapy appears to bring about repair/regeneration of the endocrine pancreas and hepatic cells protection in the diabetic rat.

Conclusions:These results support the claims on the traditional use of the of Ipomoea involucrata leaves in the treatment of toothache,rheumatic pains and other inflammatory *** on the isolation and structural elucidation of the active principle are still needed being carried out.

Minimizing Traffic Blocking and Inter-Crosstalk in Spatial Division Multiplexing over Elastic Optical Networking

As a promising solution, virtualization is vigorously developed to eliminate the ossification of traditional Internet infrastructure and enhance the flexibility in sharing the substrate network (SN) resources including computing, storage, bandwidth, etc. With network virtualization, cloud service providers can utilize the shared substrate resources to provision virtual networks (VNs) and facilitate a wide and diverse range of applications. As more and more internet applications migrate to the cloud, the resource efficiency and the survivability of VNs, such as single link failure or large-scale disaster survivability, have become crucial issues. Elastic optical networks have emerged in recent years as a strategy for dealing with the divergence of network application bandwidth needs. The network capacity has been constrained due to the usage of only two multiplexing dimensions. As transmission rates rise, so does the demand for network failure protection. Due to their end-to-end solutions, those safe-guarding paths are of particular importance among the protection methods. This paper presents approaches that provide a failure-independent route-protecting p-cycle for path protection in space-division multiplexed elastic optical networks. This letter looks at two SDM network challenges and presents a heuristic technique (k-shortest path) for each. In the first approach, we study a virtual network embedding (SVNE) problem and propose an algorithm for EONs, which can combat against single-link failures. We evaluate the proposed POPETA algorithm and compare its performance with some counterpart algorithms. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve satisfactory performance in terms of spectrum utilization and blocking ratio, even if with a higher backup redundancy ratio.

Learning from a carbon dioxide capture system dataset: Application of the piecewise neural network algorithm

This paper presents the application of a neural network rule extraction algorithm,called the piecewise linear artificial neural network or PWL-ANN algorithm,on a carbon capture process system *** objective of the application is to enhance understanding of the intricate relationships among the key process *** algorithm extracts rules in the form of multiple linear regression equations by approximating the sigmoid activation functions of the hidden neurons in an artificial neural network(ANN).The PWL-ANN algorithm overcomes the weaknesses of the statistical regression approach,in which accuracies of the generated predictive models are often not satisfactory,and the opaqueness of the ANN *** results show that the generated PWL-ANN models have accuracies that are as high as the originally trained ANN models of the four datasets of the carbon capture process *** analysis of the extracted rules and the magnitude of the coefficients in the equations revealed that the three most significant parameters of the CO_(2) production rate are the steam flow rate through reboiler,reboiler pressure,and the CO_(2) concentration in the flue gas.

The aim of maintenance is to reduce the number of failures in equipment and to avoid breakdowns that may lead to disruptions during *** objective of this study is to initiate the development of a predictive maintenance solution in the shipping industry based on a computational artificial intelligence model using real-time monitoring *** data analysed originates from the historical values from sensors measuring the vessel´s engines and compressors health and the software used to analyse these data was *** results demonstrated key parameters held a stronger influence in the overall state of the components and proved in most cases strong correlations amongst sensor data from the same *** results also showed a great potential to serve as inputs for developing a predictive model,yet further elements including failure modes identification,detection of potential failures and asset criticality are some of the issues required to define prior designing the algorithms and a solution based on artificial intelligence.A systematic approach using big data and machine learning as techniques to create predictive maintenance strategies is already creating disruption within the shipping industry,and maritime organizations need to consider how to implement these new technologies into their business operations and to improve the speed and accuracy in their maintenance decision making.

Rockfall seismic features analysis based on in situ tests:frequency, amplitude, and duration

In the seismic event classification,determining the seismic features of rockfall is significantly important for the automatic classification of seismic events because of the huge amount of raw data recorded by seismic stations in continuous monitoring. At the same time, the rockfall seismic features are still not completely *** study concentrates on the rockfall frequency content, amplitude(ground velocity), seismic waveform and duration analysis, of an artificial rockfall test at Torgiovannetto(a former quarry in Central Italy). A total of 90 blocks were released in the test, and their seismic signals and moving trajectories were recorded by four tri-axial seismic stations and four cameras, respectively. In the analysis processing,all the artificial rockfall signal traces were cut separately and the seismic features were extracted individually and automatically. In this study, the relationships between a) frequency content and impacted materials, b) frequency content and the distance between block releasing position and seismic station(source-receiver distance) were discussed. As a result, we found that the frequency content of rockfall focuses on 10-60 Hz and 80-90 Hz within a source-receiver distance of 200 m, and it is well correlated with impacted material and source-receiver distance. To evaluate the difference between earthquake and rockfall, 23 clear earthquake signals recorded in a seven month-long continuous seismic monitoring, carried out with the four seismic stations, were picked out, according to the Italian national earthquakes database(INGV). On these traces we performed the same analysis as in the artificial rockfall traces, and two parameters were defined to separate rockfall events from earthquake noise. The first one, the amplitude ratio, is related to the amplitude variation of rockfall between two stations and is greater than that of earthquakes, because of the higher attenuation occurring for rockfall events, which consists in high
