Bio-Fertilizer,Ground Magnesium Limestone and Basalt Applications May Improve Chemical Properties of Malaysian Acid Sulfate Soils and Rice Growth

Acid sulfate soils are normally not suitable for crop production unless they are appropriately ameliorated. An experiment was conducted in a glasshouse to enhance the growth of rice, variety MR219, planted on an acid sulfate soil using various soil *** soil was collected from Semerak, Kelantan, Malaysia. Ground magnesium limestone(GML), bio-fertilizer, and basalt(each 4t ha-1) were added either alone or in combinations into the soil in pots 15 d before transplanting. Nitrogen, P and potash were applied at 150, 30, and 60 kg ha-1, respectively. Three seven-day-old rice seedlings were transplanted into each pot. The soil had a p H of 3.8 and contained organic C of 21 g kg-1, N of 1.2 g kg-1, available P of 192 mg kg-1, exchangeable K of 0.05 cmol c kg-1,and exchangeable Al of 4.30 cmol c kg-1, with low amounts of exchangeable Ca and Mg(0.60 and 0.70 cmol c kg-1). Bio-fertilizer treatment in combination with GML resulted in the highest p H of 5.4. The presence of high Al or Fe concentrations in the control soil without amendment severely affected the growth of rice. At 60 d of growth, higher plant heights, tiller numbers and leaf chlorophyll contents were obtained when the bio-fertilizer was applied individually or in combination with GML compared to the control. The presence of beneficial bacteria in bio-fertilizer might produce phytohormones and organic acids that could enhance plant growth and subsequently increase nutrient uptake by rice. Hence, it can be concluded that addition of bio-fertilizer and GML improved rice growth by increasing soil p H which consequently eliminated Al and/or Fe toxicity prevalent in the acid sulfate soil.

Bangladesh enjoys food self-sufficiency or deficiency depending on crop damages by drought, floods, cyclones, storm/tidal surges and other natural hazards. Data on climate extremes were collected from literatures. Landsat images were analyzed for water availability. Arithmetic, geometric and weighted means were calculated for community vulnerability delineation using IDRISI3.2. About 12.64% populations live in disaster prone areas and their sensitivity to exposed hazards depends on financial capabilities. Crop area damages by natural hazards were the highest in Dhaka division followed by Rajshahi division during 2009-2014. The highest economic loss ($613 million) was found in Barisal division followed by Dhaka ($198.7 million) division. Flooding was the most damaging climate extreme followed by drought and hailstorm. Rice crops are frequently exposed to climate extremes and caused economic loss of $228 million during 2009-2014. Economic losses were use of wheat/maize areas damaged by natural hazards. The most vulnerable areas are situated in the south-west and north-west part of the country. The most affected areas (35.4% of the country) had economic losses of $940-1,170 ha-1. About 2-4.7 million households (HH) were affected by different natural hazards in different regions of the country. Flood affected HHs were predominant in northern and north-east regions of the country. Common adaptations to natural hazard exposures are crop switching and migration. The other adaptation options could be improvement of post disaster recovery efficiency through financial support, supplying seeds and other inputs based on seasonal suitability.

Cancer frequently develops resistance to the majority of chemotherapy *** study aimed to examine the synergistic cytotoxic and antitumor effects of SGLT2 inhibitors,specifically Canagliflozin(CAN),Dapagliflozin(DAP),Empagliflozin(EMP),and Doxorubicin(DOX),using in vitro *** precise combination of CAN+DOX has been found to greatly enhance the cytotoxic effects of doxorubicin(DOX)in MCF-7 ***,it was shown that cancer cells exhibit an increased demand for glucose and ATP in order to support their ***,when these medications were combined with DOX,there was a considerable inhibition of glucose consumption,as well as reductions in intracellular ATP and lactate ***,this effect was found to be dependent on the dosages of the *** addition to effectively inhibiting the cell cycle,the combination of CAN+DOX induces substantial modifications in both cell cycle and apoptotic gene *** work represents the initial report on the beneficial impact of SGLT2 inhibitor medications,namely CAN,DAP,and EMP,on the responsiveness to the anticancer properties of *** underlying molecular mechanisms potentially involve the suppression of the function of SGLT2.

The Basic (<i>G'/G</i>)-Expansion Method for the Fourth Order Boussinesq Equation

The (G'/G)-expansion method is simple and powerful mathematical tool for constructing traveling wave solutions of nonlinear evolution equations which arise in engineering sciences, mathematical physics and real time application fields. In this article, we have obtained exact traveling wave solutions of the nonlinear partial differential equation, namely, the fourth order Boussinesq equation involving parameters via the (G'/G)-expansion method. In this method, the general solution of the second order linear ordinary differential equation with constant coefficients is implemented. Further, the solitons and periodic solutions are described through three different families. In addition, some of obtained solutions are described in the figures with the aid of commercial software Maple.

“比”字句是汉语的比较句中重要部分,使用频率也很高。但是,由于它的句式种类多,句法结构跟孟加拉语也大不相同,初中级水平的孟加拉学生使用起来会出现各种偏误。本文以孟加拉学生使用“比”字句产生的偏误为基础,考察了孟加拉学生习得“比”字句的情况。本文的研究对象是在华正在留学和留学过的孟加拉初中级水平的汉语学习者。本文考察了“比”字句的五种肯定式和一种否定句式。它们分别是“A比B+形容词”、“A比B+形容词+精确数量补语/一点儿/一些/多了”、“A比B+动词+程度补语”、“A比B+心理动词/能愿动词+宾语”、“A比B+更/还+形容词”和“A没有B……这么/那么……”。笔者通过测试卷的形式收集偏误语料,并对其中出现的偏误进行记录和整理后,根据孟加拉学习者使用“比”字句的偏误的特点对偏误进行分类并详细分析了偏误的特点,按照偏误的特点总结初中级孟加拉国的汉语学习者使用“比”字句出现偏误的主要原因。偏误成因主要有母语负迁移、汉语规则泛化和缺乏针对性教材等。在原因分析的基础上对教学提出相关的建议。

Nanoparticle type effects on flexural, interfacial and vibration properties of GFRE composites

Damping improvement in composite structures via introducing nanofillers generally has remarkable negative effects on the other mechanical properties. Therefore, in the present work, SiC and A1203 nanoparticles＇ infusion effects on the flexural, interracial and vibration properties of epoxy matrix and glass fiber reinforced epoxy （GFR/E） laminates were investigated. unidirectional （uD-GFR/E） and quasi-isotropic （QI-GFR/E） laminates with [0/± 45/90]s and [90/±45/0]s stack- ing sequences were hybridized by the optimum nanoparticles percentages. Results from off-axis flexural strengths of uD-GFR/E demonstrate good fiber/nanophased-matrix interracial bonding. The interlaminar shear stress between the adjacent layers with different orientations/strains of duc- tile QI-GFR/SiC/E laminates results in decreasing the flexural strengths respectively by 24.3% and 9.1% for [0/±45/90]s and [90/± 45/0]s stacking sequences and increasing the dissipated interfacial friction energy and thus the damping by 105.7% and 26.1%. The damping of QI-GFR/E, QI-GFR/SiC/E and QI-GFR/AI203/E laminates with [90/± 45/0]s stacking sequence was increased by 111.4%, 29.7% and 32.9% respectively compared to [0/± 45/90]s stacking sequence.

Soil Health Assessment Methods and Relationship with Wheat Yield

Soil quality assessment methods, based on different attributes, are available but not well calibrated/validated for subsequent operational applications. We have developed a method for soil quality index assessment by considering soil texture, organic carbon, pH, available water, cation exchange capacity, bulk density, total porosity, saturated hydraulic conductivity, salinity, aggregate stability, slope and soil depth. The scoring was done on 0 - 100 scale and the lowest score was assigned to the most limiting factor of crop growth and development. Attribute-wise rating was made by using Macros developed in MS-Excel and IDRISI3.2 was used to delineate the rating maps. About 64.6% soils scored more than 60 and the best soil group (score > 70) was only about 15%. Soil health score, as determined through our method, showed good relationship with wheat yield. Multiplicative response function was more sensitive than simple regression model. The correlation analyses with one or two attributes with most severe stress and relatively with lower rating values showed better predictability of wheat yields. The soil quality index as estimated from principal component analysis having strongly loaded (>0.75) factors showed inferior correlation with grain yields of wheat than geometric mean approach. It is concluded that geometric mean approach for soil health scoring can be utilized in similar environments around the globe with or without further improvement.

General investigation for longitudinal wave propagation under magnetic field effect via nonlocal elasticity

In this paper, the propagation of longitudinal stress waves under a longitu- dinal magnetic field is addressed using a unified nonlocal elasticity model with two scale coefficients. The analysis of wave motion is mainly based on the Love rod model. The effect of shear is also taken into account in the framework of Bishop＇s correction. This analysis shows that the classical theory is not sufficient for this subject. However, this unified nonlocal elasticity model solely used in the present study reflects in a manner fairly realistic for the effect of the longitudinal magnetic field on the longitudinal wave propagation.

Physico-chemical characterization of a farmland affected by wastewater in relation to heavy metals

This study investigated selected properties of soils affected by wastewater and its relationship with some heavy metals. A free survey technique involving target sampling was used in siting soil profile pits. Soil samples were collected based on horizon differentiation and analyzed using routine and special analytical techniques. Soil data were subjected to correlation analysis using SAS program. Results show that all heavy metals studied had values above critical limits in the polluted soils using known standards and that these biotoxic metals decreased with soil depths. Highly significant (P=0.01 and 0.05) relationships were established between investigated heavy metals and some soil properties, especially soil pH and organic matter. Further studies involving more edaphic properties, biotoxic metals and their bioaccessibility in crops growing on wastewater soils will surely enhance knowledge and management of these highly anthropogenically influenced soils of the study site.

Semi-solid near-net shape rheocasting of heat treatable wrought aluminum alloys

Flexibility of the CSIR-RCS, induction stirring with simultaneous air cooling process, in combination with high pressure die casting is successfully demonstrated by semi-solid rheocasting of plates performed on commercial 2024, 6082 and 7075 wrought aluminum alloys. Tensile properties were measured for the above mentioned rheocast wrought aluminum alloys in the T6 condition. The results showed that tensile properties were close to or even in some cases exceeded the minimum specifications. The yield strength and elongation of rheocast 2024-T6 exceeded the minimum requirements of the wrought alloy in the T6 condition but the ultimate tensile strength achieved only 90% of the specification because the Mg content of the starting alloy was below the commercial alloy specification. The strengths of rheocast 6082-T6 exceeded all of the wrought alloy T6 strength targets but the elongation only managed 36% of the required minimum due to porosity, caused by incipient melting during solution heat treatment, and the presence of fine intermetallie needles in the eutectic. The yield strength of rheocast 7075 exceeded the required one and the ultimate tensile strength also managed 97% of the specification; while the elongation only reached 46% of the minimum requirement also due to incipient melting porosity caused during the solution heat treatment process.
