Dendritic cell-mimicking scaffolds for ex vivo T cell expansion

We propose an ex vivo T cell expansion system that mimics natural antigen-presenting cells(APCs)for adoptive cell therapy(ACT).Microfiber scaffolds coated with dendritic cell(DC)membrane replicate physicochemical properties of dendritic cells specific for T cell activation such as rapid recognition by T cells,long duration of T cell tethering,and DC-specific co-stimulatory *** DC membrane-coated scaffold is first surface-immobilized with T cell stimulatory ligands,anti-CD3(αCD3)and anti-CD28(αCD28)antibodies,followed by adsorption of releasable interleukin-2(IL-2).The scaffolds present both surface and soluble cues to T cells ex vivo in the same way that these cues are presented by natural APCs in *** demonstrate that the DC-mimicking scaffold promotes greater polyclonal expansion of primary human T cells as compared toαCD3/αCD28-func-tionalized *** importantly,major histocompatibility complex molecules derived from the DC membrane of the scaffold allow antigen-specific T cell expansion with target cell-specific killing *** addition,most of the expanded T cells(~97%)can be harvested from the scaffold by density gradient ***,the DC-mimicking scaffold offers a scalable,modular,and customizable platform for rapid expansion of highly functional T cells for ACT.

Improving postoperative outcomes in patients with pancreatic cancer:Inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers

This editorial assesses the prognostic value of preoperative inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers in patients undergoing surgical resection for pancreatic *** et al evaluated the ability of seven biomarkers to predict postoperative recovery and long-term *** biomarkers were albumin-to-globulin ratio,prognostic nutritional index(PNI),systemic immune-inflammation index,neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio,platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio,nutritional risk index,and geriatric nutritional risk *** PNI was found to be a strong predictor of both overall and recurrence-free survival,underscoring its clinical relevance in managing patients with pancreatic cancer.

This editorial examines a recent study that used radiomics based on computed tomography(CT)to predict the expression of the fibroblast-related gene enhancer of zeste homolog 2(EZH2)and its correlation with the survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).By integrating radiomics with molecular analysis,the study presented a strategy for accurately predicting the expression of EZH2 from CT *** findings demonstrated a strong link between the radiomics model,EZH2 expression,and patient *** noninvasive approach provides valuable insights into the therapeutic management of HCC.

Extracting DC bus current information for optimal phase correction and current ripple in sensorless brushless DC motor drive

Brushless DC motor(BLDCM) sensorless driving technology is becoming increasingly established. however, optimal phase correction still relies on complex calculations or algorithms. In finding the correct commutation point, the problem of phase lag is introduced. In this paper, we extract DC bus current information for auto-calibrating the phase shift to obtain the correct commutation point and optimize the control of BLDC sensorless driving. As we capture only DC bus current information, the original shunt resistor is used in the BLDCM driver and there is no need to add further current sensor components. Software processing using only simple arithmetic operations successfully accomplishes the phase correction. Experimental results show that the proposed method can operate accurately and stably at low or high speed, with light or heavy load, and is suitable for practical applications. This approach will not increase cost but will achieve the best performance/cost ratio and meet market expectations.

Nonbismuth concomitant quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication in Chinese regions: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

AIM: To evaluate the applicability of nonbismuth concomitant quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) eradication in Chinese ***: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was performed to evaluate the efficacy of nonbismuth concomitant quadruple therapy between sequential therapy or triple therapy for H. pylori eradication in Chinese regions. The defined Chinese regions include China, hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. The primary outcome was the H. pylori eradication rate; the secondary outcome was the compliance with therapy. The Pub Med, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were searched for studies published in the period up to March 2016 with no language ***: We reviewed six randomized controlled trials and 1616 patients. In 3 trials comparing concomitant quadruple therapy with triple therapy, the H. pylori eradication rate was significantly higher for 7-d nonbismuth concomitant quadruple therapy than for 7-d triple therapy(91.2% vs 77.9%, risk ratio = 1.17, 95%CI: 1.09-1.25). In 3 trials comparing quadruple therapy with sequential therapy, the eradication rate was not significant between groups(86.9% vs 86.0%). however, higher compliance was achieved with concomitant therapy than with sequential ***: The H. pylori eradication rate was higher for nonbismuth concomitant quadruple therapy than for triple therapy. Moreover, higher compliance was achieved with nonbismuth concomitant quadruple therapy than with sequential therapy. Thus, nonbismuth concomitant quadruple therapy should be the first-line treatment in Chinese regions.

Supercapacitors have been recognized as one of the promising energy storage devices in the future energy *** this perspective,rapid progress is made in the development of fundamental and applied aspects of *** techniques have been developed specifically to estimate the specific *** efforts have been made in the literature to increase the specific capacitance of electrode ***,researchers pay more attention on designing supercapacitors of asymmetric type with extending cell voltage and dissimilar materials with complementary working *** try to increase the specific energy of asymmetric supercapacitors(ASCs).Conversely,it is still a challenge to find a suitable operation conditions for ASCs in various designs,especially for the one with battery type *** this review,we describe our recent research works and other reports on the preparation of various nanostructured electrode materials and the performances of both symmetric and asymmetric ***,we demonstrate effects of charge balance on the capacitive performances of ASCs which consist of one electrode material of the battery type and one capacitive *** also demonstrate how to evaluate the charge capacities of both positive and negative electrode materials for this ASC application.
