＂Acupuncture in Modern Medicine＂, first published by INTECH in February, 2013, is co-edited by Dr. Lucy L. Chen, an anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist at Harvard Medical School, and Dr. tsung o. cheng, a cardiologist and Professor of Medicine at George Washington University. This book contains a total of eighteen chapters under four general sections, namely, Acupuncture Research, New Development in Acupuncture, Clinical Acupuncture and Acupuncture Therapy Assessment, and offers readers a comprehensive update of acupuncture practices and researches. This work is intended for physicians, acupuncturists, medical students and other healthcare practitioners. To the Editor： Pulmonary embolism （PE） used to be thought to be rare in China.1 Traditional teaching by such authorities as Snapper, who was highly regarded in old China as one of the most astute diagnosticians, was that PE was uncommon in China.2 As a matter of fact, he did not even mention it in his book ＂Chinese lessons to western medicine＂,3 published in 1941. The rarity of pulmonary embolism was even more remarkable when one considered the widespread use of birth control pills among the Chinese women of child-bearing age.1

Although aortography is well known as the " gold standard" for the diagnosis of coarctation of aorta(CoA),the method is invasive,expensive and not readily accepted by some *** diagnosis for CoA is non-invasive,inexpensive,readily accepted by every patient,and can be repeated as frequently as *** purpose of this presentation is to evaluate the applicability of transthoracic echocardiography for the diagnosis of *** echocardiographic appearances of S3 patients with CoA who had undergone surgery during a 5-year period from January 2008 to october 2012 were analyzed retrospectively,and the results were compared with findings at ***-three patients with CoA include six with isolated CoA and 47 of CoA associated with other cardiac *** the 53 operated patients,48 were correctly diagnosed preoperatively by echocardiography,while two were misdiagnosed as interrupted aortic arch and the diagnosis was missed in three other *** the diagnostic accuracy rate was 90.6%,and the misdiagnosis rate was 9.4%.Preoperative echocardiographic evaluation offers very satisfactory anatomic assessment in most patients with *** makes preoperative angiography *** transthoracic echocardiography should be the first-line method for the diagnosis of coarctation of the aorta.

In this study,we applied a defined auxiliary problem in a novel error estimation technique to estimate the numerical error in the method of fundamental solutions(MFS)for solving the Helmholtz *** defined auxiliary problem is substituted for the real problem,and its analytical solution is generated using the complementary solution set of the governing *** solving the auxiliary problem and comparing the solution with the quasianalytical solution,an error curve of the MFS versus the source location parameters can be ***,the optimal location parameter can be *** convergent numerical solution can be obtained and applied to the case of an unavailable analytical solution condition in the real ***,we developed a systematic error estimation scheme to identify an optimal *** numerical experiments,the optimal location parameter of the source points and the optimal number of source points in the MFS were studied and obtained using the error estimation technique.

Chen Sanli broke the conventional stereotypes, regulations and structural limitations of past poetry to create innovations in poetic form, as well as adopting a variety of writing devices such as the transformed metaphors and the abstruse diction. Within these invented poetic forms, converted metaphors and recondite diction, Chen Sanli experiments with new subject matters which were unprecedented in poetry before his time, and convey his psychological reactions such as oppression, anxiety, helplessness, fear, despair, and confusion toward the change and upheaval. All the poetic forms, metaphors, linguistic devices and emotions in Chen＇s verse have a great impact on modern Chinese literature. This paper aims to examine how Chen＇s verse promoted classical Chinese poetic tradition but also contributed to the transition from traditional to modern literature.

To the Editor： I read with interest the case report by Shen et al of transcatheter treatment of Lutembacher syndrome. Lutembacher syndrome refers to a congenital atrial septal defect （ASD） complicated by acquired mitral stenosis （MS）. The incidence of MS in patients with ASD is 4%, the incidence of ASD in patients with MS is 0.6%-0.7%. Lutembacher syndrome in the past has been overdiagnosed or misdiagnosed because of the presence of a mid-diastolic murmur in patients with ASD, until it was realized that the mid-diastolic murmur was due to excessive flow through the tricuspid valve from the left-to-right interatrial shunt.
