Tumor progression-dependent angiogenesis in gastric cancer and its potential application

Despite improvements in the early diagnosis,prognosis and therapeutic strategies for gastric cancer(GC),human GC remains one of the most frequently diagnosed malignant tumors in the world,and the survival rate of GC patients remains very ***,a suitable therapeutic strategy for GC is important for prolonging *** tumor cells themselves and the tumor microenvironment play an important role in tumorigenesis,including angiogenesis,inflammation,immunosuppression and ***,these cells contribute to gastric carcinogenesis by altering the angiogenic phenotype *** development,relapse and spreading of tumors depend on new vessels that provide the nutrition,growth factors and oxygen required for continuous tumor ***,a state of tumor dormancy could be induced by blocking tumor-associated ***,several antiangiogenic agents have been identified,and their potential for the clinical management of GC has been ***,we provide an up-to-date summary of angiogenesis and the angiogenic factors associated with tumor progression in *** also review antiangiogenic agents with a focus on the anti-vascular endothelial growth factor receptor(VEGFR)-mediated pathway for endothelial cell growth and their angiogenesis ability in ***,most antiangiogenic agents have reported no benefit to overall survival(OS)compared to chemotherapy alone in local or advanced *** phase III clinical trials,only ramucirumab(anti-VEGFR blocker)and apatinib(VEGFR-TKI blocker)have reported an improved median overall response rate and prolonged OS and progression-free survival outcomes as a 2 nd-line agent combined with chemotherapy treatment in advanced *** providing insights into the molecular mechanisms of angiogenesis associated with tumor progression in GC,this review will hopefully aid the optimization of antiangiogenesis strategies for GC therapy in combination with chemotherapy and adjuvant treatment.

Interface structure between epitaxial NiSi_2 and Si

The interface structure between the Si and NiSi2 epitaxially grown on the （112） Si substrate was studied using high resolution transmission electron microscopy and computer image simulation. The results showed that the interface between Si and NiSi2 epitaxially grown on the （ 112 ） Si substrate has six different types： type A NiSi2 （111 ）/（ 111 ） Si, type A NiSi2 （001）/（001） Si, type B NiSi2 （ 111 ）/（ 111） Si, type B NiSi2 （ 112 ）/（ 1 12 ） Si, type B NiSi2 （ 271 ）/（001） Si, and type B NiSi2 （ 114 ）/（ 110 ） Si. And there are one or more different atomic structures for one type of interface.

Tribological properties of electroless Ni-P-SiC composite coatings in rolling/sliding contact under boundary lubrication

Ni-P-SiC composite coatings were prepared under a given bath composition and operation parameters of electroless plating. The tribological properties of the Ni-P-SiC composite coatings after annealing at 400°C for 1 h were tested in rolling/sliding contact under boundary lubrication condition using a two-roller tribometer. The measurement contained friction coefficient, contact surface temperature, contact electrical resistance, and wear rate of the Ni-P-SiC composite coatings under various slide to roll ratios, loads, and rolling speeds. For the simultaneous examination of the effect of the chosen parameters on the tribological properties of the Ni-P-SiC composite coatings, an orthogonal regression experimental design method was used.

A 42-year-old man presented with a two-year history of progressive dysphagia and hoarseness. Esophagogram and endoscopy revealed submucosal mass effect on the upper esophagus. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an elongated mass in the retrotracheal region of the lower neck with extension to the posterior mediastinum. Partial tumor resection and histopathological evaluation revealed a WHO type B2 thymoma. Adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy were subsequently administered resulting in complete tumor regression. To our knowledge, this is the first report of ectopic retrotracheal thymoma with clinical and imaging manifestations mimicking those for esophageal submucosal tumor.

The Covalent Binding of Genistein to the Non-prosthetic-heme-moiety of Bovine Lactoperoxidase Leads to Enzymatic Inactivation

Objective Genistein, a major soy isoflavone metabolite （SIF）, inactivates oxidation activity of bovine lactoperoxidase （LPO）. Modification of the heme moiety of LPO by nitrogen-containing compounds has been shown to inactivate LPO. In contrast, SIF mediated inactivation of LPO does not involve a heme modification and the mechanism of SIF inhibition is poorly understood. Methods After inactivation of LPO by genistein in the presence of H202, trypsin-digested LPO peptide fragments were collected and analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS to characterize the chemical binding of genistein（s） to LPO. Results The heme moiety of LPO was not modified by genistein. A covalent binding study showed that 3H-genistein bound to LPO with a ratio of ~12 to 1. After HPLC analysis and peak collection, trypsin-digested peptide fragments were analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS. The 3H-genistein co-eluted peptide fragments （RT=24 min） were putatively identified as 1991VGYLDEEGVLDQNR214 with two bound genistein molecules or a genistein dimer （2 259 Da）, 486TPDNIDIWlGGNAEPMVER504 with two bound genistein molecules or a genistein dimer （2 663 Da）, and 161ARWLPAEYEDGLALPFGWTQR182 with three bound genistein molecules or a genistein trimer （3 060 Da）. The fragment with a mass of 2 792 Da （RT=36 min） was identified as 132CDENSPYR139 with three genistein molecules or a genistein trimer. Conclusions The results suggest that LPO was inactivated by irreversible covalent binding of genistein or genistein polymers to particular peptide fragments constituting regions of the outward domain. No genistein interaction with the prosthetic heme moiety of LPO was observed.

Growth behavior of electroless copper on silicon substrate

The growth behavior containing deposit morphology, growth rate, activation energy, and growth mechanism of copper on silicon substrate, especially at the initial stage, in the electroless plating process was studied. Copper was deposited on the surface of the silicon substrate in an electloless plating bath containing formalin （CH2O 37vol%） as a reducing agent at a pH value of 12.5 and a temperature of 50-75℃. The copper deposit was characterized using a field emission scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. The results showed that after the activation process, nanoscale Pd particles were distributed evenly on the surface of the silicon; in the deposition process, copper first nucleated at locations not only near the Pd particles but also between the Pd particles; the growth rate of electroless Cu ranged from 0.517 nm/s at 50℃ to 1.929 nm/s at 75℃. The activation energy of electroless Cu on Si was 52.97 kJ/mol.

Access Control Mechanism for Blog Posts with Fine- Grained Ability Using Simple Operations

Access control enables the owners to assign different users different permissions to see different views. The current blog system does not support fine-grained authorization. That is, the bloggers disallow to just assign partial contents of the blog posts （i.e., a paragraph or several paragraphs） to readers. The management cost is no doubt to be significantly increased while handling the authorizations on the huge amount of blog articles. In this paper, we propose a scheme for supporting a fine-grained access control mechanism on blog articles. The advantage is that bloggers are able to authorize partial contents of blog posts to different users or groups of users.

Characterization of crud deposited on fuel rods under HWC environment in Kuosheng Nuclear Power Plant

Under normal water chemistry conditions, the oxygen and hydrogen peroxide produced by water radiolysis in the coolant of boiling water reactors(BWRs) can lead to intergranular stress corrosion cracking in the constituent materials of plant components. This fact has led to the wide-scale adoption of hydrogen water chemistry(HWC) in the nuclear industry to counteract these *** study seeks to characterize the metallic composition and the surface properties of the constituent materials of plant components in order to determine their effects on the accumulation of chalk river unidentified deposits(crud) on fuel rods in the BWR Unit-1 of the Kuosheng Nuclear Power Plant in Taiwan. Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy was used to calculate the concentrations of surface crud and gamma spectrometry was used to determine the radioactivity of the corrosion products, as well as their axial distribution across the surface of the fuel rods. X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were used to identify the crystalline phase and morphology of the crud as irregular shapes and flakes. The amount of crud deposited during the fourth fuel cycle exceeded that of the third fuel cycle due to extended burn-up time. Our analytical results indicate that the implementation of HWC had no significant effect on the characteristics of subsequent crud.

Hemorrhagic blisters in fulminant Aeromonas hydrophila bacteremia: Case report and literature review

The Aeromonas species, belonging to the family Aeromonadaceae, are opportunistic pathogens found in humans with an incidence rate of 76 cases per million inhabitants in Southern *** incidence of Aeromonas septicemia is relatively low, accounting for less than 15% of *** diagnosed with Aeromonas hydrophila bacteremia who were presented with skin blisters and septic shock have been reported to have a mortality rate of 100%.Aeromonas infection must be considered in the differential diagnosis of gangrene-like tissue damage or skin lesions in patients with end-stage renal disease, due to the potential sources of infections.A 49-year-old Taiwan Residents diabetic woman with end-stage renal disease had underwent regular *** was referred to our hospital due to a one-day course of fever, dyspnea, hypotension, and fulminant hemorrhagic blisters covering her whole body.A physical examination uncovered multiple hemorrhagic blisters, along with a ruptured blister over the lower left *** tests revealed an elevation of liver enzymes, impaired renal function, lactatemia, and high anion-gap metabolic *** of both blood and hemorrhagic blister fluid grew Aeromonas ***, she experienced persistent shock despite aggressive intravenous fluid, empiric antibiotics, and inotropic agents with norepinephrine and *** diagnosis and prompt management using intravenous fluids, antibiotics and surgical debridement is recommended in order to improve a patient's survival rate.
