Transcriptome Profiling of the Abdominal Skin of Larimichthys crocea in Light Stress

Large yellow croaker(Larimichthys crocea), one of the most important marine fish species in China, can change its abdominal skin color when it is shifted from light to dark or from dark to light, providing us an opportunity of investigating the molecular responding mechanism of teleost in light stress. The gene expression profile of fish under light stress is rarely documented. In this research, the transcriptome profiles of the abdominal skin of L. crocea exposed to light or dark for 0 h, 0.5 h and 2 h were produced by next-generation sequencing(NGS). The cluster results demonstrated that stress period, rather than light intensity(e.g., light or dark), is the major influencing factor. Differently expressed genes(DEGs) were identified between 0 h and 0.5 h groups, between 0 h and 2 h groups, between 0.5 h light and 0.5 h dark, and between 2 h light and 2 h dark, respectively. The gene ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) annotation revealed that the genes relating to immunity, energy metabolism, and cytoskeletal protein binding were significantly enriched. The detailed analysis of transcriptome profiles also revealed regular gene expression trends, indicating that the elaborate gene regulation networks underlined the molecular responses of the fish to light stress. This transcriptome analysis suggested that systematic and complicated regulatory cascades were functionally activated in response to external stress, and coloration change caused by light stress was mainly attributed to the change in the density of chromatophores for L. crocea. This study also provided valuable information for skin coloration or light stress research on other marine fish species.

The Dongcaohe ophiolite from the North Qilian Moun-tains: A fossil oceanic crust of the Paleo-Qilian ocean

The Dongcaohe ophiolite, located at the south of the North Qilian subduction complexes, is a tectonic block with an exposed area of about 3 km×6 km. It consists of an intrusive section overlain by an ex- trusive section. The lower part of the intrusive section consists of cyclic layers of cumulate dunites, troctolites, anorthosites, anorthositic gabbros, and gabbros with small discordant dunite and troctolite bodies. This layered sequence grades upward to isotropic gabbros and gabbronorites, which are overlain by the extrusive sequence of diabasic sheeted dikes and basaltic lavas. The overall mineral crystallization sequence was olivine±Cr-spinel, plagioclase, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, and Fe-Ti oxides. The Cr-spinel (Mg#: 42-66, Cr#: 41-57) in these layered cumulates and present-day abyssal peridotites have similar compositions. Also, the compositional variations of the plagioclase and cli- nopyroxene in the intrusive section reflect crystallization from melts compositionally similar to the present-day ocean basalts. Moreover, the rare earth element (REE) and multi-element distribution pat- terns of the intrusive and extrusive lithologies in the Dongcaohe ophiolite are consistent with crystal- lization of mid-ocean ridge basalts. The zircon grains separated from the gabbronorite have an SHRIMP average 206Pb/238U weighted age of 497 ± 7 Ma, which is considered as the tectonic emplacement age of the Dongcaohe ophiolite. The field occurrence, mineral and whole-rock compositions indicate that the Dongcaohe ophiolite represents a well-persevered oceanic crustal fragment composed of a complete oceanic crustal section of layered cumulates at bottom upgrading through isotropic cumulates to sheeted dikes and lava flows.

Local inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases reduced M2 macrophage activity and impeded recovery in spinal cord transected rats after treatment with fibroblast growth factor-1 and nerve grafts

Alternatively activated macrophages （M2 macrophages） promote central nervous system regeneration. Our previous study demonstrated that treatment with peripheral nerve grafts and fibroblast growth factor-1 recruited more M2 macrophages and improved partial functional recovery in spinal cord transected rats. The migration of macrophages is matrix metalloproteinase （MMP） dependent. We used a general inhibitor of MMPs to influence macrophage migration, and we examined the migration of macrophage populations and changes in spinal function. Rat spinal cords were completely transected at Ts, and 5 mm of spinal cord was removed （group T）. In group R, spinal cord-transected rats received treatment with fibroblast grow th factor- 1 and peripheral nerve grafts. In group RG, rats received the same treatment as group R with the addition of 200 μM GM6001 （an MMP inhibitor） to the fibrin mix. We found that MMP-9, but not MMP- 2, was upregulated in the graft area of rats in group R. Local application of the MMP inhibitor resulted in a reduction in the ratio of arginase-1 （M2 macrophage subset）/inducible nitric oxide synthase-postive cells. When the MMP inhibitor was applied at 8 weeks postoperation, the partial functional recovery observed in group R was lost. This effect was accompanied by a decrease in brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels in the nerve graft. These results suggested that the arginase-1 positive population in spinal cord transected rats is a migratory cell population rather than the phenotypic conversion of early iNOS^＋ cells and that the migration of the arginase-1^＋ population could be regulated locally. Simultaneous application of MMP in- hibitors or promotion of MMP activity for spinal cord injury needs to be considered if the coadministered treatment involves M2 recruitment.

CO_2 sequestration utilizing basic-oxygen furnace slag:Controlling factors,reaction mechanisms and V–Cr concerns

Basic-oxygen furnace slag（BOF-slag） contains 〉35%CaO,a potential component for CO_*** this study,slag-water-CO_2 reaction experiments were conducted with the longest reaction duration extending to 96 hr under high CO_2 pressures of 100-300 kg/cm2 to optimize BOF-slag carbonation conditions,to address carbonation mechanisms,and to evaluate the extents of V and Cr release from slag *** slag carbonation degree generally reached the maximum values after 24 hr slag-water-CO_2 reaction and was controlled by slag particle size and reaction *** maximum carbonation degree of 71%was produced from the experiment using fine slag of〈0.5 mm under 100℃and a CO_2 pressure of 250 kg/cm^2 with a water/slag ratio of *** release from the slag to water was significantly enhanced（generally 〉2 orders） by slag *** contrast,slag carbonation did not promote chromium release until the reaction duration exceeded 24 ***,the water chromium content was generally at least an order lower than the vanadium concentration,which decreased when the reaction duration exceeded 24 ***,long reaction durations of 48-96 hr are proposed to reduce environmental impacts while keeping high carbonation *** textures and water compositions indicated that Mg-wustite,in addition to CaO-containing minerals,can also be ***,the conventional expression that only considered carbonation of the CaO-containing minerals undervalued the CO_2 sequestration capability of the BOF-slag by^20%.Therefore,the BOF-slag is a better CO_2 storage medium than that previously recognized.

SHRIMP U-Pb geochronology of the zircons from the Precambrian basement of the Qilian Block and its geological significances

Origin and tectonic evolution of the Qilian Precambrian basement on NW China were investigated using zircon U-Pb ages with collaborating stratigraphic and paleontological evidence. Zircon grains were separated from two schists, two granitic gneisses and one mylonized gneiss and dated with SHRIMP. Seventy percent of sixty-one detrital zircon ages from two schists ranges from 0.88 Ga to 3.09 Ga, mostly within 1.0 Ga to 1.8 Ga with a peak at 1.6 Ga to 1.8 Ga, and twenty percent varies from 2.0 Ga to 2.5 Ga. A few falls in the Archean and Neoproterozoic periods. The two granitic gneisses were dated 930±8 Ma and 918±14 Ma, whereas the mylonized granitic gneiss was dated 790±12 Ma. These ages represent two periods of magmatisms, which can be correlated with the early and late stages of magmatisms associated with the Jinningian movement on the Yangtze Blocks. The results from this and previous studies indicate that the ages of the Precambrian detrital zircons from the Qilian Block are widely distributed in the Proterozoic era, distinct from the North China Block which was stable in the Neo-Mesoproterozoic era. By contrast, the age histograms of the detrital zircons from the Qilian Block is similar to those from Precambrian basement of the Yangtze Craton. Therefore, it is suggested that the Qilian Block had a strong affinity toward the Yangtze Craton and might belong to the supercontinent Gondwana in the Neoproterozoic time. This inference is supported by Nd model age (TDM), stratigraphic, and paleontological evidence. It is further considered that the Qilian Block was rifted from the supercontinent Gondwana during late Sinian to form an isolated continent in the Proto-Tethyan Ocean, moving towards the Alaxa Block in the North China Craton. The part of Proto-Tethyan Ocean between the Qilian and Alaxa Blocks should correspond to the so-called Paleo-Qilian Ocean. Petrogenesis of Cenozoic Basaltic Rocks from Jiangsu Province,China:Evidence from Geochemical Constraints

Cenozoic （Miocene to Pleistocene） basaltic rocks in Jiangsu province of eastern China include olivine tholeiite and alkali basalt. We present major, trace element and Sr-Nd isotopic data as well as Ar-Ar dating of these basalts to discuss the petrogenesis of the basalts and identify the geological processes beneath the study area. On the basis of chemical compisitions and Ar-Ar dating of Cenonoic basaltic rocks from Jiangsu province, we suggest that these basalts may belong to the same magmatic system. The alkali basalts found in Jiangsu province have higher ~FeO, MgO, CaO, Na20, TiO2 and P205 and incompatible elements, but lower A1203 and compatible elements contents than olivine tholeiite which may be caused by fractional crystallization of olivine, pyroxene and minor plagioclase. In Jiangsu basaltic rocks the incompatible elements increase with decreasing MgO/~FeO ratios. The primitive mantle-normalized incompatible elements and chondrite-normalized REE patterns of basaltic rocks found in Jiangsu province are similar to those of OIB. Partial loss of the mantle lithosphere accompanied by rising of asthenospheric mantle may accelerate the generation of the basaltic magma. The 143Nd/144Nd vs. S7Sr/S6Sr plot indicates a mixing of a depleted asthenospheric mantle source and an EM1 component in the study area. According to Shaw＇s equation, the basalts from Jiangsu province may be formed by 1%-5% partial melting of a depleted asthenospheric mantle source. On the basis of Ar-Ar ages of this study and the fractional crystallization model proposed by Brooks and Nielsen （1982）, we suggest that basalts from Jiangsu province may belong to a magmatic system with JF-2 as the primitive magma which has undergone fractional crystallization and evolved progressively to produce other types of basalts.

A PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE SPECIFIC TREATMENT OF SCHISTOSOMIASIS JAPONICA

Sodium antimony tartrate, "Fouadin", and emetine hydrochloride were tried for the treatment of Schistosomiasis japonica in the outpatient clinic of the Chü Hsien Anti-Schistosomiasis Unit of the Central Field Health Station.2. 240 cases were treated with "Fouadin", 60 of them receiving 6 or more injections; 24 became free from S. j. ova.3. 93 cases were treated with sodium antimony tartrate, 33 of them receiving 6 or more injections; 14 became free from S. j. ova.4. 19 cases were treated with emetine hydrochloride, 9 of them receiving 6 or more injections; 2 became free from S. j. ova.5. Relapses occurred in 7 out of 23 "Fouadin" treated patients, 2 out of 10 sodium antimony tartrate-treated patients, and 1 out of 2 emefine-treated patients.6. Sodium antimony tartrate was the most powerful vermicide of the three, but it also gave the most reactions. "Fouadin" was weaker in vermicidal power and gave less reactions. Emetine hydrochloride was the weakest vermicide, and it not infrequently gave reactions.7. Sodium antimony tartrate is much the cheapest drug; "Fouadin" is quite expensive, and emetine hydrochloride is even more ***. 雪山隧道贯穿台湾东北部雪山山脉,该隧道由两座主坑及一座导坑所组成,单孔长度逾12.9km,沿线布设三处通风竖井。由于雪山隧道地质复杂多变,加以全断面隧道钻掘机(TBM)开挖进度不如预期,开工后工程进度一直呈落后状态。为了缩短工期,工程单位决定由已开挖完成之二号通风竖井(深度约250m)往水平坑道增辟工作面,藉由联络隧道及斜支坑之贯通,主坑及导坑共增辟10处工作面,总共开挖长度约5600m,对整体工程进度之提升帮助颇大。从竖井增辟工作面之隧道开挖,其施工安排、出碴作业、通风排水及紧急应变措施等均与一般水平隧道开挖不尽相同,本文将作简要介绍及探讨,以供工程界参考。

Pilot Study on an Integrated Pilates and Yoga Program for Decreasing Postpartum Depression in Women

Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a 10-week exercise intervention in reducing depression and fatigue in women with postpartum depression. Design: A one-group pretest/ posttest quasi-experiment was conducted. Setting: A postpartum ward in a medical center in Taipei city was used. Participants: Nineteen women at 7 - 12 weeks postpartum with an Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale score ≥ 9 were recruited. Methods: The women participated in a postpartum exercise support program 1 hour per week for 10 weeks. The program was led by a professional coach;it integrated yoga, Pilates, elastic band exercise, low-intensity aerobics, and motherhood role experience sharing. Results: After the postpartum exercise support program intervention, depression scores decreased from 10.4 ± 3.29 to 7.80 ± 2.73 (t = 3.632, P = 0.003);fatigue scores decreased from 8.73 ± 5.02 to 5.40 ± 3.89 (t = 2.988, P = 0.010). Conclusion: PESP administered to women with postpartum depression appeared to benefit their psychological wellbeing.

己內醯胺聚合的最初階段為加成聚合。作者研究若干種化合物,試驗它們對己內醯胺聚合的引發作用。結果,自由基型的引發劑如過氧化苯甲醯,過氧化氫和它們的氧化還原體系,均不能引發己內醯胺的聚合。羧酸在無水存在時其引發作用甚弱。胺類則缺乏引發效應。但羧酸与胺同時存在時能迅速的引起己內醯胺的聚合。氨基酸不論何種類型均有迅速的引發作用。苯甲醯胺基己酸的引發作用遠較苯甲酸為差。碘化三甲基苯基銨(季銨鹽)不能引發己內醯胺的聚合,而N-甲基己內醯胺也不能用這些引發劑引起聚合。根據以上結果,己內醯胺聚合顯非自由基型的聚合,亦非引發劑与單體的逐步加成。作者建議引發劑的正負兩種離子都有影響。引發機構是由於氫原子的轉移,使己內醯胺發生雙離子式的極化,因而發生聚合。
