Xanthine oxidase inhibitors from Archidendron clypearia(Jack.) I.C. Nielsen: Results from systematic screening of Vietnamese medicinal plants

Objective: To screen Vietnamese medicinal plants for xanthine oxidase(XO) inhibitory activity and to isolate XO inhibitor(s) from the most active plant. Methods: The plants materials were extracted by methanol. The active plant materials were fractionated using different organic solvents, including n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. Bioassay-guided fractionation and column chromatography were used to isolate compounds. The compounds structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data, including IR, MS, and NMR. Results: Three hundreds and eleven methanol extracts(CME) belonging to 301 Vietnamese herbs were screened for XO inhibitory activity. Among these plants, 57 extracts displayed XO inhibitory activity at 100 μg/m L with inhibition rates of over 50%. The extracts of Archidendron clypearia, Smilax poilanei, Linociera ramiflora and Passiflora foetida exhibited the greatest potency with IC_(50) values below 30 μg/m L. Chemical study performed on the extract of Archidendron clypearia resulted in the isolation of six compounds, including 1-octacosanol, docosenoic acid, daucosterol, methyl gallate, quercitrin and(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan. The compound(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan showed the most potent XO inhibitory activity with an IC_(50) value of 25.5 μmol/L. Conclusions: From this investigation, four Vietnamese medicinal plants were identified to have XO inhibitory effects with IC_(50) values of the methanol extracts below 30 μg/m L. Compound(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan was identified as an XO inhibitor from Archidendron clypearia with IC_(50) value of 25.5 μmol/L.

Safe Vegetable Consumption in Hue City:A Case Study of Food Safety Situation in Vietnam

Food safety has become a growing concern for citizens in the modern society when consuming unsafe food that directly impacts public health,life quality and well-being of each *** of Vietnam in general and specially in Hue city have been facing challenge of vegetable unsafety.A survey concerning the consumption of safe vegetables was conducted in Hue city,*** were collected by using a well-structured questionnaire from representative of 30 consumers,30 producers and 10 *** results showed that lettuce,sweet potato and Chinese mustard were identified as the most important vegetables to consumers in Hue *** of the consumers purchased vegetable every *** cost of vegetable in every transaction was about 30,000 *** expenditure has not created a great motivation for developing safe vegetable *** of the consumers in Hue city showed high interest,demand,trust and satisfaction for safe ***,50%of the consumers reported that the price of the safe vegetable was quite expensive and price was not matched with their ***,there were some disadvantages in each stage of vegetable supply *** example,land,seed,capital,cultivation techniques,preliminary processing,preservation,brand name,trademark and place to consume have not met the requirement of high technology production for the supply chain of safe *** chain linking between the production and consumption of vegetables is not *** and consumers do not have closely *** can not be traced to origin and there is no safe *** consumers believe the quality of vegetables depending on the prestige suppliers,such as,the vegetable shops with foreign *** vegetables of farmers are very difficult to be certified for safe *** and suggestions to Hue city are proposed that it is necessary to establish the vegetable production area in Hue *** growers should be supported w

The Integration of Intemational Chinese Students Into Local Singaporean Community

With the development of Chinese economy, a number of students choosing overseas schools for their studies are on the go and China has become a huge market of students for international education providers. However, some destinations for international education have declined in number of Chinese students in recent years, such as the US. More students tend to go to a country that does not only speak English, but also has the similar culture with their own country like Singapore. The objective of this paper is to find out the level of integration of international Chinese students into local Singaporean communities. Specifically, the research focuses on how international Chinese students interact with local Chinese communities and other local residents through activities, such as participating and volunteering in local Chinese events/festivals or public spaces. In addition, it also explores mutual feelings between the Chinese students and the local Singaporean community. Subsequently, the paper also examines about how friendships, institutions, and motivations influence Chinese students＇ integrations into the local community. Data were obtained primarily through surveys and face-to-face interview. Also, towards the conclusion, the paper gives some preliminary suggestions to engage more international Chinese students and bond them closer to the local community in order to create the best experience during their stay and study in Singapore.

Impact of chosen force fields and applied load on thin film lubrication

The rapid development of molecular dynamics(MD)simulations,as well as classical and reactive atomic potentials,has enabled tribologists to gain new insights into lubrication performance at the fundamental ***,the impact of adopted potentials on the rheological properties and tribological performance of hydrocarbons has not been researched *** extensive study analyzed the effects of surface structure,applied load,and force field(FF)on the thin film lubrication of *** lubricant film became more solid‐like as the applied load *** particular,with increasing applied load,there was an increase in the velocity slip,shear viscosity,and *** degree of ordering structure also changed with the applied load but rather *** was also significantly dependent on the surface *** chosen FFs significantly influenced the lubrication performance,rheological properties,and molecular *** adaptive intermolecular reactive empirical bond order(AIREBO)potential resulted in more significant liquid‐like behaviors,and the smallest velocity slip,degree of ordering structure,and shear stress were compared using the optimized potential for liquid simulations of united atoms(OPLS‐UAs),condensed‐phase optimized molecular potential for atomic simulation studies(COMPASS),and ***,classical potentials,such as OPLS‐UA and COMPASS,exhibit more solid‐like behavior than reactive potentials ***,owing to the solid‐like behavior,the lubricant temperatures obtained from OPLS‐UA and COMPASS were much lower than those obtained from AIREBO and *** increase in shear stress,as well as the decrease in velocity slip with an increase in the surface potential parameterζ,remained conserved for all chosen FFs,thus indicating that the proposed surface potential parameterζfor the COMPASS FF can be verified for a wide range of atomic models.

In this study,we reported on the concept and practical use of cation exchange resin(CER)for removing anions in water via pretreating the CER with metal *** cation exchange resinsupported iron and magnesium oxides/hydroxides composite(FeMg/CER)was synthesized and introduced as a new and potential adsorbent for selective removal of nitrate ion in the water *** of FeMg/CER were determined by techniques such as Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and Xray *** results showed that FeMg/CER material had a high nitrate adsorption capacity of 200 mg NO_(3)^()·g^(1)with a fast equilibrium adsorption time of 30 min at pH *** addition,it had good durability of at least 10 times of regeneration,which could be applied to practical water and wastewater treatment.

Surface PEGylation of hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles via aminated intermediate

A hybrid of organic/inorganic system, hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles functionalized with poly(ethylene glycol), was synthesized in the presence of coupling agent and aminated ends. Doxorubicin(DOX) was used as a model drug to evaluate the effect of PEGylation on the loading capacity and release pattern of the *** with transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), nitrogen adsorption-desorption, thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and Fourier transformed infrared(FTIR) confirmed the PEG conjugation, as well as the amorphous mesoporous nature of the synthesized particles. Due to the capping effect of PEG molecules over the pores in the silica structure, the synthesized system was able to retain higher amount of cargo and establish a controlled manner when releasing.

This paper distinguished hydrogen roles to improve electron mobility and carrier concentration in ZnO and Al doped ZnO sputtered *** combining experimental evidences and theoretical results,we find out that hydrogen located at oxygen vacancy sites(H_(O))is the main factor gives rise to increase simultaneously mobility and carrier concentration which has not been mentioned *** appropriate hydrogen content during sputtering not only results in crystalline relaxation but also supports doping Al into ZnO,increasing carrier concentration and electron mobility in the *** principles calculations confirmed hydrogen substitutional stability for oxygen vacancy,significantly reducing electron conductivity effective mass and hence increasing electron *** particular,0.8%hydrogen partial pressure ratio achieved 61 cm^(2)V^(-1)s^(-1)maximum electron mobility,optical transmittance above 82%in visible and near-infrared regions,and 2×10^(20) cm^(-3)carrier concentrations for H-Al co-doped ZnO *** values approach ideal electrical and optical properties for transparent conducting oxide *** presence of one maximum electron mobility was attributed to competition between increasing mobility due to restoring effective electron mass and hydrogen passivation of native defects,and decreased electron mobility due to electron-phonon scattering.

Surface Mapping of Resistive Switching CrO_x Thin Films

In this work, we investigated resistive switching behavior of CrOx thin films grown by using sputtering technique. Conventional I-V measurements obtained from Ag/CrOx/Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si structures depict the bipolar switching behavior, which is controlled by formation/dissolution processes of Ag conducting filaments through electrochemical redox reaction under external electric field driven. Conductive atomic force microscopy (C-AFM) technique provides the valuable mapping images of existing Ag filaments at low resistance state as well as the characteristics of filament distributions and diameters. This study also reveals that where the higher amplitude of topography is, the easier possibility of forming conducting filament paths is on CrOx surface films.
