High Ga content Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin films incorporated sulfur were prepared by sequential evaporation from CuGaSe2 and CuInSe2 ternary compounds and subsequently Ga2Se3, In2Se3 and In2S3 binary compounds. The In2S3/(Ga2Se3+ In2Se3) ratio was varied from 0 to 0.13, and the properties of the thin films were investigated. XRD studies demonstrated that the prepared thin films had a chalcopyrite Cu(In,Ga)Se2 structure. The S/(Se+S) mole ratio in the thin films was within the range from 0 to 0.04. The band gaps of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin films increased from 1.30 eV to 1.59 eV with increasing the ?In2S3 /(Ga2Se3+ In2Se3) ratio.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how participation in action research will change nursing activities in dealing with ethical issues experienced in daily nursing settings of organ transplantation. The action research here is comprised of four types of sessions: clarification of wishes (1st session), meetings to talk about matters experienced, study meetings, and reflections (final session). In the first and final sessions, group interviews about ethical practices were conducted. Recorded data from the interviews and 4th meeting to talk about experiences were analyzed using WordMiner1.5. Participants had the individual need, “wish to improve understanding of ethics in their own skills to promote ethical practices and ethical interests”. Then, they became aware of “ethical practice in placing importance on the relationship with patients/their families and ethics attitudes as nurses”. This awareness was connected to “sharing ideas and information with medical staff, awareness of and action suitable for ethics issues, and increased interest in ethics issues”. Like this, the awareness of ethical practices has expanded from individuals to the relationship with patients/their families and sharing ideas with medical staff, and this has developed into self-development. The findings suggest the importance of an organizational culture that addresses ethics to improve practical ethics skills. The findings also suggest that it would be necessary for an organization to take long-term actions to addresses ethical issues in wards or hospitals.

Estimating Vertical Distribution of Vegetation Cover in Temperate Heterogeneous Forests Using Airborne Laser Scanning Data

Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se) thin films were prepared by thermal crystallization from CuInGaSe/CuGaSe precursors in S/Se mixing atmosphere. From XRF analysis, the Cu:(In+Ga):(S+Se) mole ratio in all thin films was nearly 1:1:2. The S/(S+Se) mole ratio in the thin films changed from 0 to 0.65 with increasing the S/(S+Se) mole ratio in the sealed ampoule. Ga/(In+Ga) mole ratio in the thin films was almost a constant. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the thin films had a chalcopyrite Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se) structure and the preferred orientation to the 112 plane. The separation of a peak was observed near 2θ=27°, indicative the graded Ga and/or S concentration in Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se) thin film.

Vertical structure is important for understanding forest environment, yet difficult to characterize, especially in temperate heterogeneous forests where the structure is complex. This study used data from a small-footprint airborne laser scanning (ALS) to estimate vegetation coverage in four stratum ranges in a warm temperate forest in Japan: >12 m, 8 - 12 m, 4 - 8 m, and 0 - 4 m in height. Field data were collected in 17 broad-leaved and 12 coniferous sample plots, consisting of the proportion of vegetation cover in each stratum range. The field and ALS measurements were conducted in summer, during leaf-on conditions. Using echo attributes (first, last, intermediate, and only), we calculated the vegetation coverage index (VCI) at 1-m height intervals. The cumulative sum of the VCI (CUMVCI) was then computed and compared with field observations. Linear regression analysis showed that the ALS data gave reasonable estimates of vegetation coverage in the upper two or three stratum ranges in broad-leaved stands, and in the upper two stratum ranges in coniferous stands. The model gave reproducible estimates until approximately 95% of the total returns had been applied. We conclude that ALS data can provide useful information on natural habitats in the management of warm temperate forest.

Objective:To clarify the oncological benefit of zoledronic acid for hormone-naive metastatic prostate cancer,patient outcome of androgen deprivation therapy with zoledronic acid(ADT+Z)and androgen deprivation therapy alone(ADT)was ***:Fifty-two patients with pathologically confirmed metastatic prostate cancer were prospectively enrolled and treated with combined androgen blockade(goserelin and bicalutamide)with zoledronic acid(4 mg every 4 weeks for 24 months).A propensity score-match with logistic regression analysis was applied to select 50 pair-matched cohorts(both from ADT+Z and from historical control cohorts who had undergone ADT alone),and patient outcomes were ***:Patients with ADT+Z had significantly longer time to progression(TTP)than those with ADT(median TTP;24.2 vs.14.0 months,p=0.0092),while no significant difference of overall survival between two groups(p=0.1502).Multivariate analysis for biochemical recurrence revealed treatment with ADT was the sole independent prognostic factor(HR:1.724,95%CI:1.06-2.86,p=0.0297).Conclusion:Combination of zoledronic acid with ADT may prolong time to castration resistant prostate cancer.

Diagnosis and management of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), caused by lung epithelial injury followed by apoptosis, are often challenging. It has been controversial whether the SIRT1 protein, a principal modulator of longevity due to caloric restriction, ameliorates or aggravates ILD in animal models. Here we examined the effect of SRT1720, a syn- thetic activator of SIRT1, on bleomycin-induced lung injury in a mouse model and apoptosis in cultured epithelial cells. Oral intubation of SRT1720 over a period of 15 days caused body weight loss and a high mortality rate among bleomy- cin-treated mice. Histological examinations showed that the SRT1720 load increased fibrosis in the bleomycin-treated lung. An analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid revealed remarkably increased numbers of inflammatory cells in the SRT1720-treated group. Moreover, the apoptosis of A549 lung cancer cells, caused by X-ray irradiation and an anti-Fas activating antibody, was promoted by SRT1720. These results indicate that SRT1720 not only aggravates bleomy- cin-induced ILD, but stimulates the apoptosis of physically and biologically stimulated A549 cells. While SIRT1 acti- vators are considered promising for the treatment of conditions such as diabetes mellitus, fatty liver, and chronic ob- structive pulmonary diseases, an excess of food containing SIRT1 activators may be harmful depending on the disease state, especially in the case of acute inflammation.

AIM: To analyze the relationship between the glycated albumin (GA) to glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) ratio and the histological grading of liver ***: The study retrospectively included consecutive hepatitis C virus positive chronic liver disease patients (n = 142) who had undergone percutaneous liver biopsy between January 2008 and March 2010 at our institution. The ratios of GA/HbA1c were calculated in all patients to investigate the relationship with the degree of the liver fibrosis. The values of the aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI), an excellent marker for the evaluation of liver fibrosis, were also calculated. In addition, we combined the ratio of GA/HbA1c and the APRI in order to improve our ability to detect the presence of significant liver fibrosis. RESULTS: Sixty-one (43%) patients had either no fibrosis or minimal fibrosis (METAVIR score: F0-F1), while 25 (17%) had intermediate fibrosis (F2). Fifty-six (39%) patients had severe fibrosis (F3-F4) and 27 of them had cirrhosis (F4). The mean values of the GA/HbA1c increased with the progression of the fibrosis (F0-1: 2.83 ± 0.24, F2: 2.85 ± 0.24, F3: 2.92 ± 0.35, F4: 3.14 ± 0.54).
