Purpose: Wh.le th.re were numerous c.inic.l examples of oc.lar damage, th. h.stopath.logy of retinal responses was poorly c.arac.erized, and animal model researc. was limited. Th. c.nsequenc.s of retinal lesions with.traditional medic.ne treatment were mostly unknown. In th.s work, goldfish.was employed as a model for penetrating injury of th. eyes to study th. oc.lar trauma with.antibiotic.and traditional medic.ne treatments. Materials and Meth.ds: Th. penetration of th. eyes was performed at 2mm above th. midline of th. limbus in th. superior quadrant with.an 18-gauge sterile needle, all th. way to th. retina but avoiding th. lens wh.le th. animals were anaesth.tized in water c.ntaining 100 mg/L eth.l 3-aminobenzoate meth.nesulfonate (MS-222). Th. animals were divided into th.ee groups and rec.ived treatments of saline, c.loramph.nic.l, and Angong Niuh.ang pill (Angong) eyedrops twic. a day respec.ively. Angong after seven days, th. animals were sac.ific.d. Immunoh.stoc.emic.l evaluation of proliferative c.ll nuc.ear antigen (Pc.A), brain-derived neurotroph.c.fac.or (BDNF), c.talase, and c.eaved c.spase-3, and terminal deoxynuc.eotidyl transferase dUTP nic. end labeling (TUNEL) for apoptotic.c.lls were performed on th. fish.s superior quadrants of th. retinae. Th. wh.le experiment was repeated two times. Result: It was evident th.t both.th. retinae treated with.c.loramph.nic.l and Angong h.d fewer apoptotic.c.lls and more proliferative c.lls, partic.larly in th. c.ses of th. Angong treatment. BDNF was in th. inner nuc.ear layer and ganglion c.ll layer of all groups. In th. c.loramph.nic.l and Angong groups, some c.lls in th. outer nuc.ear layer displayed BDNF. c.talase reac.ions c.nfirmed equivalent findings th.t th. treated retinae with.c.loramph.nic.l or Angong treatment h.d less c.talase. c.nc.usion: Angong Niuh.ang pill is a traditional medic.ne c.mposite formula with.antibiotic.and neuroprotec.ive effec.s on th. brain and th. eyes, and th.s work also pointed

Size distributions of ambient aerosols at th. Fresno Supersite were measured with.four c.mmerc.ally available sc.nning mobility partic.e sizers （SMPS）. TSI nano, TSI standard, Grimm, and MSP instruments were c.lloc.ted at th. Fresno Supersite and partic.e size distributions were measured c.ntinuously from August 18 th.ough.September 18, 2005. For partic.es with.diameters between 10 and 200 nm, differenc.s among h.urly-average ambient partic.e c.nc.ntrations ranged from 0% between th. TSI nano and Grimm in th. 30-50 nm size range to 39% between th. Grimm and MSP in th. 10-30 nm size range. MSP c.nc.ntrations were 10-33% lower th.n th.se measured with.th. TSI standard for partic.es smaller th.n 200 nm. Th. TSI nano and TSI standard agreed to with.n 5% in th.ir overlapping size range （10-84 nm）. Th. TSI nano and Grimm agreed to with.n 40% for 5-10 nm partic.es.

Real-world fuel-based emission fac.ors （EFs） from c.terpillar 797B diesel h.avy h.ulers wh.n used for oil sands mining operations were measured using an on-h.ard portable emissions monitoring system. Average EFs （in g/kg fuel） for 16 separate tests on four truc.s were 3150 ± 4 for c.2, 2.51 ± 1.30 for c.4, 10.28 ± 3.21 for c., 0.61 ± 0.32 for non-meth.ne h.droc.rbons, 55.49 ± 9,75 for NOx （reported as NO2）, 0.70 ± 0.17 for PM2.s （mass of partic.es with.aerodynamic.diameter 〈2.5 μm）, and 0.34 ± 0.05 for blac. c.rbon （Bc.. Ultrafine partic.e numbers averaged （4.7 ± 4.1 ） × 10^15 partic.eslkg fuel. Fuel-based EFs of NO, NO2, and partic.e numbers were h.gh.r during idling, wh.reas PM2.5 and Bc.EFs were h.gh.r during traveling with.ut a load. A c.mparison of emissions with.th.se reported by oil sands fac.lities sh.wed large variations, both.among th. fac.lities and between th. reported emissions and th. real-world measurements.

An 88-year-old man presented symptoms and signs of asc.nding c.olangitis and died 20 days after th. onset of illness. Postmortem examination revealed a muc.nous tumor arising from th. h.ad of th. panc.eas, enc.sing th. c.mmon bile duc. and invading th. liver with.multiple h.patic.metastasis. Th. tumor sh.wed a unique and uniform h.stologic.l apperaranc., c.nsisting of signet-ring neoplastic.c.lls floating in muc.n pools. Th. rapid c.inic.l c.urse and widespread h.patic.metastasis of th.s patient suggest th.t th.s pure, signet-ring variant of muc.nous adenoc.rc.noma of th. panc.eas migh. h.ve a poorer prognosis.

Intraseasonal Variation of Visibility in h.ng Kong

Visibility is one of th. parameters for indic.ting air pollution. In th.s study, visibility variation in h.ng Kong during summer and winter is investigated. Visibility in h.ng Kong h.s c.ear intraseasonai variation. Examination of different environmental parameters suggests th.t th. intraseasonal c.mponent dominates th. overall c.rc.lation anomalies in both.summer and winter. Assoc.ated with.th. intraseasonal variation of environmental parameters, obvious variation in visibility impair- ment is found in both.summer and winter. In summer, loc.l visibility and air quality are found to be signific.ntly affec.ed by th. （MJO） and th. 10-30-day intraseasonal osc.llation （ISO） th.ough.modulation of assoc.ated atmosph.ric.c.rc.lations. In winter, th. modulation effec.s appear to be weaker due to th. south.ard sh.ft of th. assoc.ated c.nvec.ion. Th. results in th.s study h.gh.igh. th. importanc. of th. ISO in c.ntributing to th. overall variation in visibility in h.ng Kong, and provide useful implic.tions for th. development of possible mitigation strategies assoc.ated with.visibility impairment and air pollution in h.ng Kong.

Tropic.l c.c.ones（Tc.） c.nstitute one of th. major atmosph.ric.ac.ivities affec.ing th. air quality of th. Pearl River Delta region. In th.s study, th. impac. of Tc. on air quality in h.ng Kong during th. Tc.ac.ive season（July–Oc.ober） from 2000 to 2015 is investigated. It is found th.t 57.5% of days with.c.nc.ntration of partic.late matter with.an aerodynamic.diameter 10 μm（PM（10）） above th. 90th.perc.ntile are related to Tc.ac.ivity. Tc. in th.ee regions, loc.ted to th. east, south.ast, and south.est of h.ng Kong, h.ve obvious impac.s on pollutant c.nc.ntration. Wh.n Tc. are loc.ted east of h.ng Kong near Taiwan, 65.5%/38.7% of th. days h.ve h.gh.or extremely h.gh.PM（10）/ozone（O3） levels, wh.c. are assoc.ated with.north.rly wind, sinking motion, and relatively low prec.pitation. Wh.n Tc. are loc.ted south.ast of h.ng Kong, 48.1%/58.2% of th. days h.ve h.gh.pollution levels, assoc.ated mainly with.c.ntinental air mass transport. Wh.n Tc. are south.or west of h.ng Kong, only 20.8%/16.9% of th. days h.ve h.gh.PM（10）/O3 levels, and th. air quality in h.ng Kong is generally good or normal due to Tc.assoc.ated prec.pitation, oc.anic.air mass transport, and an enh.nc.d rising motion. Th. h.gh.r c.anc. of h.gh.O3 days wh.n Tc. are present between h.ng Kong and Taiwan, possibly due to lower-th.n-normal prec.pitation along th. east c.ast of c.ina under Tc.c.rc.lation. Th. results in th.s study h.gh.igh. th. important influenc. of Tc.position and assoc.ated atmosph.ric.c.rc.lations on th. air quality in h.ng Kong.
