Background: Human African t.y.anosomiasis (HAt. occurs in t.ree hist.rical foci in t.e Cent.al African Republic. Object.ve: t. describe t.e morbi-mort.lit. of childhood HAt.in rural Cent.al African Republic wit. t.e aim of early.management. Met.ods: Descript.ve and analy.0}c cross-sect.onal st.dy.conduct.d from January.1, 2017 t. March 30, 2018 at.Nola prefect.ral hospit.l. t.is st.dy.was included all children seen as out.at.ent. and/or hospit.lized in t.e pediat.ic wards, in whom t.e diagnosis of HAt.was confirmed. St.t.st.cal analy.is was performed using Epi-info soft.are. Result.: Fort. children were included from Bilolo (60%), Nola (30%) and Salo (10%). t.e sex rat.o was 0.66 wit. a median age of 8.65 ± 12.48 y.ars. Fever (82.5%), noct.rnal insomnia (75%), day.0}me somnolence (67.5%), headache (65%), poly.rt.ralgia (62.5%), convulsions 52.5% (n = 21), t.emor (27.5%), t.y.anidism (7.5%) and delirium (2.5%) were t.e main funct.onal signs. Examinat.on signs were adenopat.y.(52.5%), parest.esia (30%), decreased cut.neous-abdominal reflexes (25%) and ost.oart.cular reflexes (17.5%), hy.erest.esia (20%), ext.apy.amidal hy.ert.nia (15%) and depression (2.5%). t.e children were in t.e ly.phat.c-blood phase in 65% of cases, and meningoencephalit.s in 35%. Pent.midine was administ.red in 65% of cases. Four children died and 6 had neurological sequelae. t.ere was an associat.on bet.een age under 5, Bilolo’s focus, t.e children’s hist.ry.and t.e severit. of t.e disease. Age under 5, gender, household, children’s act.vit., hist.ry.and occurrence of sequelae were also associat.d. Conclusion: HAt.remains a permanent.t.reat.t. Cent.al African children. Any.clinical present.t.on combining long-t.rm infect.ous signs and unexplained neurological or neuropsy.hological disorders must.be t.eat.d wit. caut.on.
