Vegetation Mapping for Regional Ecological Research and Management: A Case of the Loess Plateau in China

Vegetation maps are fundamental for regional-scale ecological research. However, information is often not sufficiently up to date for such research. The Loess Plateau is a key area for vegetation restoration projects and a suitable area for regional ecological research. To carry out regional vegetation mapping based on the principles of hierarchical classification, object-oriented methods, visual interpretation, and accuracy assessment, this study integrated land cover, high-resolution remote sensing images, background environmental data, bioclimate zoning data, and field survey data from the Loess Plateau. To further clarify the implications of vegetation mapping, we compared the deviation of the 2015 vegetation map of the Loess Plateau(VMLP) and the widely used vegetation map of China(VMC)(1 : 1 000 000) for the expressed vegetation information and the evaluation of ecosystem services. The results indicated that 1) the vegetation of the Loess Plateau could be divided into 9 vegetation type groups and 18 vegetation types with classification accuracies of 87.76% and 83.97%, respectively;2) the distribution of vegetation had obvious zonal regularity;3) a deviation of 29.56 × 10^4 km^2 occurred when the vegetation coverage area was quantified with the VMC;4) the vegetation classification accuracy affected the ecosystem service assessment, the total water yield of the Loess Plateau calculated by the VMC and other required parameters was overestimated by 2.2 × 10^6 mm in 2015. Because vegetation mapping is a basic and important activity, that requires greater attention, this study provides supporting data for subsequent multivariate vegetation mapping and vegetation management for conservation and restoration.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetic kidney disease(DKD) is one of the most common microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus and is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. DKD seriously affects the quality of life of patients and brings heavy economic burden to the country. At present, the pathogenesis of DKD is not entirely clear, and clinical treatment is mainly to control blood glucose and lower blood pressure and urine protein. However,the clinical effect is not *** PRESENTATION: A female patient, aged 72 years, first visited our hospital endocrinology clinic,and was diagnosed with DKD. She suffered from fatigue, cold sensation in the lower extremities, convulsion of the lower limbs and frequent urination at night. She had a dark purple tongue with white and yellow fur and sublingual varices. Accessory examinations showed that her fasting blood glucose was 5.7 mmol/L, serum creatinine 159 μmol/L,blood urea nitrogen 13.6 μmol/L, blood uric acid493 μmol/L, and blood pressure 138/65 mm *** patient received Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment of the modified Shenzhuo formula[Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici), Dahuang(Radix Et Rhizoma Rhei Palmati), Shuizhi(Hirudo) and Danshen(Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae)] for 7 years and achieved good ***: This case provides a specific treatment plan and an effective reference for clinical application of Traditional Chinese Medicine for treating DKD. This may be an alternative treatment for DKD.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy and safety of different dosages of modified Zhibaidihuang decoction(MZBDD) on polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) hyperandrogenism(HA) ***: Ninety PCOS HA patients and 30 infertile patients due to tubal factor were selected. Ninety PCOS HA patients were randomly divided into three groups: low dosage group(LDG), medium dosage group(MDG) and high dosage group(HDG) and infertile patients were selected as normal control group(NCG). PCOS HA patients were treated with different dosage of MZBDD for 4 weeks. For HA patients, serum total testosterone(T), estrodial(E2), follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), luteinizing hormone(LH), prolatin(PRL), alanine aminotransferase(AST), aspartate amino transferase(AST) were determined before and after treatment, while acne scores(Rosenfield) were signed. Basal body temperatures(BBT) were asked to be measured every day. And for the else, T, E2,FSH, LH, PRL, AST, and AST were determined before ***: Totally 111 patients completed the clinical research. There were no differences among the four groups on serum T before treatment(P =0.221). Serum T concentration of both MDG and HDG after treatment significantly were lower than that of before treatment(P = 0.039, P = 0.000),while there was no obvious difference in LDG(P =0.829). Serum T concentration of both MDG and HDG were significantly lower than that of LDG after treatment(P = 0.048, P = 0.006). To compared with before treatment, there were no differences in Serum FSH, LH, E2, P and PRL among the three groups(LDG, MDG, HDG)(as for FSH, P = 0.136, P = 0.503,P = 0.062; as for LH, P = 0.473, P = 0.513, P = 0.096;as for E2, P = 0.206, P = 0.927, P = 0.076; as for PRL,P = 0.120, P = 0.903, P = 0.407, as for P, P = 0.308, P =0.866, P = 0480). Acne scores of all the three groups were obviously lower than that of before treatment(P = 0.031; P = 0.033; P = 0.002). 39.5% of the patients had biphasic BBT, but there were no differences among the

Interactions between diet and the intestinal microbiome play an important role in human health and disease *** is well known that such interactions,whether direct or indirect,trigger a series of metabolic reactions in the *** suggests that intestinal stem cells(ISCs),which are phenotypic precursors of various intestinal epithelial cells,play a significant role in the regulation of intestinal barrier function and *** advent and evolution of intestinal organoid culture techniques have presented a key opportunity to study the association between the intestinal microenvironment and *** a result,the effects exerted by dietary factors,intestinal microbiomes,and their metabolites on the metabolic regulation of ISCs and the potential mechanisms underlying such effects are being gradually *** review summarises the effects of different dietary patterns on the behaviour and functioning of ISCs and focuses on the crosstalk between intestinal microbiota,related metabolites,and ISCs,with the aim of fully understanding the relationship between these three factors and providing further insights into the complex mechanisms associated with ISCs in the human *** an understanding of these mechanisms may lead to the development of novel dietary interventions or drugs conducive to intestinal health.

Successful treatment of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults with Traditional Chinese Medicine: a case report

INTRODUCTION： Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults （LADA） is regarded as one of the Insulin-de- pendent diabetes mellitus that progress slowly. It gradually became understood since 1970s. The on- set usually appears in adulthood, the islet autoanti- bodies are positive and the function of 13 cell is de- clined rapidly. The treatment is insulin injection. CASE PRESENTATION： The case reported followed is a 37-year-old male patient who was newly diag- nosed with type 2 diabetes. He abandoned oral hy- poglycemic agents since they caused stomach in- disposed. Before visiting, his islet autoantibodies were detected positive and he had never injected insulin before. We treated him with traditional Chi- nese herbals under the guidance of Traditional Chi- nese Medicine and differentiation, and achieved fine efficacy. CONCLUSION： Because the initial presentation of LADA is similar to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and ex- amination is not in common use, misdiagnosis isnot rare. Once LADA is diagnosed, the therapy must be adjusted. This case report indicated that Traditional Chinese Medicine might be an alterna- tive treatment for LADA.
