Aluminum Electroplating on AZ31 Magnesium Alloy with Acetic Anhydride Pretreatment

Magnesium(Mg)alloys for metal electroplating require a surface pretreatment,i.e.,the removal of the spontaneously oxidized surface layer(MgO,Mg(OH)_(2),andMgCO_(3)).However,the use of highly toxic and/or corrosive acids in conventional pretreatment processes has become an *** this study,a facile and less toxic pretreatment is demonstrated and applied in aluminum(Al)*** immersion of the AZ31 Mg alloy into acetic anhydride(Ac_(2)O)removed the spontaneously oxidized surface layer and formed a thin but stable magnesium acetate(Mg(OAc)_(2))layer that protects the metal substrate from further *** Al electroplating bath is a concentrated diglyme(G2)-AlCl_(3)organic solution that can readily dissolve Mg(OAc)_(2)to enable direct plating onto a metal *** as-deposited Al layer has a compact and crack-free morphology that improves the corrosion resistance and hardness(2.7 GPa).Owing to the lack of an interfacial oxidized layer,heat treatment led to the successful diff usion of Mg and Al atoms,which increased the hardness to 4.4 *** Ac_(2)O pretreatment of Mg alloys enables the successful Al electroplating and subsequent heat treatment.

Annealing,solvation,and mirror-plating effects in phosphonium chloroaluminate ionic liquids

Diagnosis of ectopic pancreas by endoscopic ultrasound with fine-needle aspiration

Influence of Si,Ce,Sb and Sn on chunky graphite formation

Dear Editor, Disorders of sex development （DSDs） are a group of conditions in which chromosomal, gonadal, or anatomical sex is atypical.1 DSD in genetic males （46,XY DSD） primarily results from impaired androgen production or action or perturbed genital morphogenesis？ The current understanding of the genetic basis of 46,XY DSD remains fragmentary. For example, although more than 15 genes have been implicated in the development ofnonsyndromic hypospadias,2 one of the most common forms of 46,XY DSD,~ mutations in these genes account for 〈20% of the cases.3

The impact of standardized methods of hepatic vein reconstruction with an external iliac vein graft

Background:Liver tumors that invade the hepatic vein are surgically challenging,especially in patients with liver *** of as much of the parenchyma as possible is important;thus,when feasible,we perform hepatectomy with hepatic vein reconstruction(HVR)using an external iliac vein(EIV)*** conducted a retrospective study to investigate the benefit of HVR and to evaluate our ***:The study included patients treated by hepatectomy with HVR using EIV grafts and vascular *** reviewed the surgical outcomes,including total operation and HVR times,postoperative complications,and postoperative liver ***:The surgeries included right HVR(n=13),left HVR(n=3),and middle HVR(n=1).The total operation time was 277±72 minutes(155-400 minutes),and the HVR time was 27±5 minutes(19-40 minutes).Graft patency was confirmed in 14(82%)of the *** patient who underwent HVR with running sutures required emergency surgery due to graft ***-Dindo>grade IIIa postoperative complications occurred in 4(23.5%)patients,but there were no treatment-related ***:In conclusion,our hepatic resections with HVR using the same techniques and graft materials showed acceptable surgical *** our experience,we believe that preparatory hepatic resection with HVR is an effective treatment,especially for patients with decreased liver function or with a small residual liver parenchyma.

Analysis of Influence and Contribution on Distribution System under Widespread PVs and EVs

In recent years, against a background of an environmental problem and resource problem, the introduction of RES （renewable energy source） such as wind power generation and PV （photovoltaic generation）, EV （electric vehicle）, and PHEV （Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle） has been expanding. However, various problems have an ongoing discussion. When the production of electricity by RESs exceeds the power consumption, it is possible to cause a steep variation of point voltage and a deviation from a proper voltage range in a distribution system to which RESs are interconnected. When EVs and PHEVs have spread to the distribution system, a new peak power-demand and a steep voltage drop might occur in the midnight charging time zone in case the electricity charges are low. in this paper, the authors analyze the effects on the distribution system under widespread PVs, EVs, and PHEVs. In addition, the authors propose an improvement plan and analyze about the influence and contribution.

Effects of subject’s wakefulness state and health status on approximated entropy during eye opening and closure test of routine EEG examination

This study tested a novel method designed to provide useful information for medical diagnosis and treatment. We measured electroencephalography (EEG) during a test of eye opening and closing, a common test in routine EEG examination. This test is mainly used for measuring the degree of alpha blocking and sensitivity during eyes opening and closing. However, because these factors depend on the subject’s awareness, drowsiness can interfere with accurate diagnosis. We sought to determine the optimal EEG frequency band and optimal brain region for distinguishing healthy individuals from patients suffering from several neurophysiological diseases (including dementia, cerebrovascular disorder, schizophrenia, alcoholism, and epilepsy) while fully awake, and while in an early drowsy state. We tested four groups of subjects (awake healthy subjects, drowsy healthy subjects, awake patients and drowsy patients). The complexity of EEG band frequencies over five lobes in the human brain was analyzed using wavelet-based approximate entropy (ApEn). Two-way analysis of variance tested the effects of the two factors of interest (subjects’ health state, and subjects’ wakefulness state) on five different lobes of the brain during eyes opening and closing. The complexity of the theta and delta bands over frontal and central regions, respectively, was significantly greater in the healthy state during eyes opening. In contrast, patients exhibited increased complexity of gamma band activity over the temporal region only, during eyes-close. The early drowsy state and wakefulness state increased the complexity of theta band activity over the temporal region only during eyes-close and eyes-open states respectively, and this change was significantly greater in control subjects compared with patients. We propose that this method may be useful in routine EEG examination, to aid medical doctors and clinicians in distinguishing healthy individuals from patients, regardless of whether the subject i

Unusual presentation of a pancreatic cyst resulting from osteosarcoma metastasis

Pancreatic metastases are uncommon. They have been reported in lung cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, breast cancer, renal cell carcinoma, melanoma, lymphoma and sarcoma, and usually have solid morphology. Cystic metastasis to the pancreas is even more rare with few case reports in the literature. However, with the increasing use of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging as well as endoscopic ultrasound, more such lesions may be detected. Metastasis to the pancreas from osteosarcoma is highly unusual, but can be seen with the increasing survival of patients with osteosarcoma. We present an extremely rare case of a predominantly cystic lesion of the pancreas, which was diagnosed as metastasis from osteosarcoma. The pathophysiology of the cystic component of the metastasis of osteosarcoma is unknown. Cystic necrotic degeneration of the solid metastasis or pancreatitis secondary to the metastasis with development of associated fluid collection can be considered. Metastasis should remain a differential consideration even for primarily cystic lesions of the pancreas.
