PCA-based 3D Shape Reconstruction of Human Foot Using Multiple Viewpoint Cameras

This paper describes a multiple camera-based method to reconstruct the 3D shape of a human foot. From a foot database, an initial 3D model of the foot represented by a cloud of points is built. The shape parameters, which can characterize more than 92% of a foot, are defined by using the principal component analysis method. Then, using ＂active shape models＂, the initial 3D model is adapted to the real foot captured in multiple images by applying some constraints （edge points＇ distance and color variance）. We insist here on the experiment part where we demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method on a plastic foot model, and also on real human feet with various shapes. We propose and compare different ways of texturing the foot which is needed for reconstruction. We present an experiment performed on the plastic foot model and on human feet and propose two different ways to improve the final 3D shapers accuracy according to the previous experiments＇ results. The first improvement proposed is the densification of the cloud of points used to represent the initial model and the foot database. The second improvement concerns the projected patterns used to texture the foot. We conclude by showing the obtained results for a human foot with the average computed shape error being only 1.06 mm.

Measurements were performed in spring 2001 and 2002 to determine the characteristics of soil dust in the Chinese desert region of Dunhuang, one of the ground sites of the Asia-Pacific Regional Aerosol Characterization Experiment （ACE-Asia）. The mean mass concentrations of total suspended particle matter during the spring of 2001 and 2002 were 317μg m^-3 and 307μg m^-3, respectively. Eleven dust storm events were observed with a mean aerosol concentration of 1095μg m^-3, while the non-dusty days with calm or weak wind speed had a background aerosol loading of 196μg m^-3 on average in the springtime. The main minerals detected in the aerosol samples by X-ray diffraction were illite, kaolinite, chlorite, quartz, feldspar, calcite and dolomite. Gypsum, halite and amphibole were also detected in a few samples. The mineralogical data also show that Asian dust is characterized by a kaolinite to chlorite （K/C） ratio lower than 1 whereas Saharan dust exhibits a K/C ratio larger than 2. Air mass back-trajectory analysis show that three families of pathways are associated with the aerosol particle transport to Dunhuang, but these have similar K/C ratios, which further demonstrates that the mineralogical characteristics of Asian dust are different from African dust.

AIM: To evaluate/isolate cancer stem cells(CSCs) from tissue or cell lines according to various definitions and cell surface markers. METHODS: Lectin microarray analysis was conducted on CSC-like fractions of the human pancreatic cancer cell line Panc1 by establishing anti-cancer drug-resistant cells. Changes in glycan structure of CSC-like cells were also investigated in sphere-forming cells as well as in CSC fractions obtained from overexpression of CD24 and CD44. RESULTS: Several types of fucosylation were increased under these conditions, and the expression of fucosylation regulatory genes such as fucosyltransferases, GDP-fucose synthetic enzymes, and GDP-fucose transporters were dramatically enhanced in CSC-like cells. These changes were significant in gemcitabineresistant cells and sphere cells of a human pancreatic cancer cell line, Panc1. However, downregulation of cellular fucosylation by knockdown of the GDP-fucose transporter did not alter gemcitabine resistance, indicating that increased cellular fucosylation is a result of CSC-like transformation. CONCLUSION: Fucosylation might be a biomarker of CSC-like cells in pancreatic cancer.

BACKGROUND Current medical treatments can achieve remission of ulcerative colitis (UC).Surgery is required when potent drug treatment is ineffective or when coloncancer or high-grade dysplasia develops. The standard procedure is restorativeproctocolectomy (RPC) with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis, commonly performedas two- or three-stage RPC with diverting ileostomy. Postoperative stoma outletobstruction (SOO) is frequent, but the causes are not well *** To identify the risk factors for SOO after stoma surgery in patients with *** We retrospectively reviewed the files of 148 consecutive UC patients whounderwent surgery with stoma construction. SOO was defined as small bowelobstruction symptoms and intestinal dilatation just below the penetrating part ofthe stoma on computed tomography. Patients were divided into two groups:Those who developed SOO within 30 d after surgery and those who did *** characteristics, intraoperative parameters, the stoma site, and rectusabdominis muscle thickness were collected. Moreover, we identified the patientswho repeatedly developed SOO. Univariate and multivariate analyses wereperformed to identify risk factors for SOO and recurring *** Eighty-nine patients who underwent two-stage RPC were included betweenJanuary 2008 and March 2020. Postoperatively, SOO occurred in 25 (16.9%)patients after a median time of 9 d (range 2-26). Compared to patients withoutSOO, patients with SOO had a significantly higher rate of malignant tumors ordysplasia (36.0% vs 17.1%, P = 0.032), lower total glucocorticoid dose one monthbefore surgery (0 mg vs 0 mg, P = 0.026), higher preoperative total protein level(6.8 g/dL vs 6.3 g/dL, P = 0.048), higher rate of loop ileostomy (88.0% vs 55.3%, P= 0.002), and higher maximum stoma drainage volume (2300 mL vs 1690 mL, P =0.004).
