Cocoon samples were collected from fifty-two mulberry gardens with high, intermediate, and low silkworm cocoon productivities in the lower-middle reaches of the Yangtze River in the six China’s provinces of j.angsu, j.angxi, Anhui, Fuj.an, Hunan, and Hubei to determine the transformation efficiency of S from mulberry leaves to silkworm cocoons, and to evaluate the sulfur cycle (uptake and output) in the mulberry leaf-silkworm cocoon system with typical mulberry gardens in the lower-middle reaches of the Yangtze River in China. The transformation efficiency of sulfur (TES) from mulberry leaves into silkworm cocoons in the high-productivity mulberry gardens was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than that in the low-productivity gardens. For the high-productivity mulberry gardens the TES from mulberry leaves into the cocoon shells was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than that for low-yield mulberry gardens. Producing 1 kg dry cocoon in mulberry gardens required uptake of about 20 g S, however 1 kg of dry cocoon only removed about 4 g S. Therefore, recycling of these organic wastes with silkworm cultivation was important for sulfur balances.

微纳塑料颗粒是当前国际上重点关注的新污染物之一,其营养转移是领域关注的前沿问题。颗粒尺寸大小是可能影响颗粒态污染物生物蓄积和营养级迁移的潜在因素,目前微纳塑料颗粒以粒径为主导因素的食物链累积动力仍鲜有研究。本文研究了不同尺寸聚苯乙烯颗粒(PSPs)在水蚤Daphnia magna体内的生物富集,及其随后迁移到捕食者糠虾Limnomysis benedeni体内的情况,阐明了PSPs在水生系统中的归趋与其颗粒尺寸(26、500和4800 nm)的相关关系。用暴露于8 mg/L PSPs(8.3×10个颗粒/mL26 nm PSPs、1.2×10个颗粒/mL 500 nm PSPs和1.3×10个颗粒/mL 4800 nm PSPs)的D. magna投喂L. benedeni 16小时,随后糠虾经历48小时净化(即无投喂)。根据微纳颗粒在生物体内质量浓度结果发现,4800 nm PSPs在D. magna体内的质量浓度是26 nm和500 nm PSPs的4～10倍。D. magna对26nm PSPs(1.7±0.4 L/g·h)和4800 nm PSPs(1.7±0.4 L/g·h)的吸收速率常数显著高于对500 nm PSPs(0.7±0.1 L/g·h)的吸收速率常数(P <0.05)。据估算,仅有1～5%被***摄入的PSPs被转移到L. benedeni体内。值得一提的是,研究发现颗粒尺寸越大,PSPs在食物链中的转移程度越高。对于26 nm、500 nm和4800 nm的PSPs,在L. benedeni体内的消除速率常数分别为0.03±0.03、0.1±0.2和0.2±0.8 L/g·h,并且彼此之间没有显著差异。荧光显微镜观察显示,PSPs主要分布在L. benedeni的胃和肠道中,未发现进入其他组织脏器。此外,所有PSPs暴露组基于生物中积累的颗粒质量浓度计算的营养级迁移因子(TTF)均小于1,这证明在捕食者中未观察到生物放大想象。综上表明,微纳塑料颗粒可以沿着水蚤-糠虾的食物链迁移,但不会发生生物放大;颗粒尺寸大小会影响其生物积累和营养级迁移程度,故在评估微纳塑料在水生环境中的生物蓄积和归趋时不能忽视颗粒尺寸这一重要因素。

Obj.ctive:Patient-reported health-related quality-of-life(HRQOL)measures can provide guidance for treatment decision making,symptom management,and discharge *** is often influenced by the distress experienced by patients from disease or treatment-related *** study aimed to identify symptoms that can predict changes in HRQOL in men undergo-ing external beam radiation therapy(EBRT)for nonmetastatic prostate cancer(NMPC).Methods:Fifty-one men with NMPC scheduled for EBRT were assessed at the baseline,at the midpoint of EBRT,and at the end of *** participants received 38-42 daily doses of EBRT(five times a week),depending on the stage of their *** questionnaires were administered to evaluate depressive symptoms,urinary and sexual functions,bowel issues,symp-tom-related distress,fatigue,and *** correlations,repeated-measures ANOVA,and multiple regressions examined the relationships among ***:Intensification of symptoms and increased symptom-related distress,with a corre-sponding decline in HRQOL,were observed during EBRT in men with *** in symp-toms and symptom distress were associated with changes in HRQOL at the midpoint of EBRT(r=-0.37 to-0.6,P=0.05)and at the end of EBRT(r=-0.3 to-0.47,P=0.01)compared with the *** regression model comprising age,body mass index,Gleason score,T category,androgen-deprivation therapy use,radiation dose received,symptoms(urinary/sexual/bowel prob-lems,fatigue),and overall symptom distress explained 70%of the variance in predicting *** problems and fatigue significantly predicted the decline in HRQOL during ***:Identifying specific symptoms that can influence HRQOL during EBRT for NMPC can provide feasible interventional targets to improve treatment outcomes.

Due to profound impact on climate and human health,air quality has attracted attention from all levels of the civil *** key step in the provision of required tools for the society to tackle the complex air quality problem is to characterize it in a comprehensive manner with a long-term ***,we describe a continuous and comprehensive observation station and its accompanying state-ofthe-art instrumentation that was established to investigate the complex urban atmospheric environment in a rapidly developing Chinese *** station,located in downtown Beij.ng,aims to study air quality by identifying the maj.r atmospheric pollutants and key processes determining their formation and loss mechanisms.A few hundreds of parameters are continuously measured with the state-of-the-art instruments,including trace gas concentrations,aerosol particle size distributions,and mass concentrations,covering aerosol particle chemical composition from molecules to micrometer-sized aerosol *** produced long-term,comprehensive big data with around 1�10^(11)bytes per *** this paper,we provide an overview on the facilities of the station,the instrumentation used,the workflow of continuous observations and examples of results from 2018 to 2019 and a basis for establishing a modern long-term,comprehensive atmospheric urban observation station in other megacities.

Background:Missed clinic appointments negatively impact clinic patient flow and health outcomes of people living with HIV(PLHIV).PLHIV likelihood of missing clinic appointments is associated with direct and indirect expenditures made while accessing HIV *** obj.ctive of this study was to examine the relationship between out-of-pocket(OOP)health expenditures and the likelihood of missing ***:Totally 618 PLHIV older than 18 years attending two HIV care and treatment centres(CTC)in Northern Tanzania were enrolled in the *** attendance and clinical characteristics were abstracted from medical *** on OOP health expenditures,demographics,and socio-economic factors were self-reported by the *** used a hurdle *** first part of the hurdle model assessed the marginal effect of a one Tanzanian Shillings(TZS)increase in OOP health expenditure on the probability of having a missed appointment and the second part assessed the probability of having missed appointments for those who had missed an appointment over the study ***:Among these 618 participants,242(39%)had at least one missed clinic appointment in the past *** expenditure was not significantly associated with the number of missed clinic *** median amount of OOP paid was 5100 TZS per visit,about 7%of the median monthly *** who were separated from their partners(adj.sted odds ratio[AOR]=1.83,95%confidence interval[CZ]:1.11-8.03)and those aged above 50 years(AOR=2.85,95%CI:1.01-8.03)were significantly associated with missing an *** those who had at least one missed appointment over the study period,the probability of missing a clinic appointment was significantly associated with seeking care in a public CTC(P=0.49,95%CI:0.88-0.09)and aged between>25-35 years(P=0.90,95%CI:0.11-1.69).Conclusion:Interventions focused on improving compliance to clinic appointments should target public CTCs,PLHIV aged between>
