The study examines the impact of microstructure and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) grafting on the degradability of Zn–Mg alloys. The mechanical properties ofa Zn alloy containing 0.68 wt% Mg and extruded at 200 ◦C are enhanced for degradable load-bearing applications, addressing a crucial need in the field. The materialexhibits a bimodal grain size distribution that is random texture, consisting of secondary phases, grains, and sub-grains. With an elongation to failure of 16 %, theyield and ultimate tensile strengths are 325.9 and 414.5 MPa, respectively, and the compressive yield strength is 450.5 *** “grafting-from” method was used to coat a few micrometers thick of PMMA on both bulk and scaffold Zn alloys to mitigate the corrosion rate. The last one is aporous structure, with a porosity of 65.8 %, considered as in the first approach of an orthopedic implant. After being immersed for 720 h, the PMMA-grafted bulkalloy’s corrosion rate decreased from 0.43 to 0.25 mm/y. Similarly, the scaffold alloy’s corrosion rate reduced from 1.24 to 0.49 mm/y. These results indicate that themethod employed could be used for future orthopedic applications.

It is increasingly important to monitor sliding interfaces within machines,since this is where both energy is lost,and failures *** emission(Ae)techniques offer a way to monitor contacts remotely without requiring transparent or electrically conductive ***,acoustic data from sliding contacts is notoriously complex and difficult to ***,we simultaneously measure coefficient of friction(with a conventional force transducer)and acoustic emission(with a piezoelectric sensor and high acquisition rate digitizer)produced by a steel‒steel rubbing *** data is then used to train machine learning(ML)algorithms(e.g.,Gaussian process regression(GPR)and support vector machine(SVM))to correlated acoustic emission with *** training requires the dense Ae data to first be reduced in size and a range of processing techniques are assessed for this(e.g.,down-sampling,averaging,fast Fourier transforms(FFTs),histograms).Next,fresh,unseen Ae data is given to the trained model and the resulting friction predictions are compared with the directly measured *** is excellent agreement between the measured and predicted friction when the GPR model is used on Ae histogram data,with root mean square(RMS)errors as low as 0.03 and Pearson correlation coefficients reaching ***,predictions remain accurate despite changes in test conditions such as normal load,reciprocating frequency,and stroke *** paves the way for remote,acoustic measurements of friction in inaccessible locations within machinery to increase mechanical efficiency and avoid costly failure/needless maintenance.

The mycotoxins associated with specific Fusarium fungal infections of grains are a threat to global food and feed security. These fungal infestations are referred to as Fusarium Head Blight(FHB) and lead to Fusarium Damaged Kernels(FDK). Incidence of FDK >0.25% will lower the grade, with a tolerance of 5%FDK for export feed grain. During infestation, the fungi can produce a variety of mycotoxins, the most common being deoxynivalenol(DON). Fusarium Damaged Kernels have been associated with reduced crude protein(CP), lowering nutritional, functional and grade value. New technology has been developed using Near Infrared Transmittance(NIT) spectra that estimate CP of individual kernels of wheat, barley and durum. Our objective is to evaluate the technology's capability to reduce FDK and DON of downgraded wheat and ability to salvage high quality safe kernels. In five FDK downgraded sources of wheat,the lowest 20% CP kernels had significantly increased FDK and DON with the high CP fractions having decreased FDK and DON, thousand kernel weights(TKW) and bushel weight(Bu). Strong positive correlations were observed between FDK and DON(r = 0.90); FDK and grade(r = 0.62) and DON and grade(r = 0.62). Negative correlations were observed between FDK and DON with CP(r =-0.27 and-0.32);TKW(r =-0.45 and-0.54) and Bu(r =-0.79 and-0.74). Results show improved quality and value of Fusarium downgraded grain using this technology.

Determinism is very useful to multithreaded programs in debugging, testing, etc. Many deterministic ap- proaches have been proposed, such as deterministic multithreading （DMT） and deterministic replay. However, these sys- tems either are inefficient or target a single purpose, which is not flexible. In this paper, we propose an efficient and flexible deterministic framework for multithreaded programs. Our framework implements determinism in two steps： relaxed determinism and strong determinism. Relaxed determinism solves data races eificiently by using a proper weak memory consistency model. After that, we implement strong determinism by solving lock contentions deterministically. Since we can apply different approaches for these two steps independently, our framework provides a spectrum of deterministic choices, including nondeterministic system （fast）, weak deterministic system （fast and conditionally deterministic）, DMT system, and deternfinistic replay system. Our evaluation shows that the DMT configuration of this framework could even outperform a state-of-the-art DMT system.

Regular Production of Transgenic Wheat Mediated by Agrobacterium tumefaciens

Wheat is the number one crop both in acreage and total yield in the world. Therefore, it is very important to improve wheat by gene engineering techniques even though it belongs to the plants insensitive to gene transformation, especially to Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Wheat immature embryos of 1.0 - 1.5mm in size, C58cl of Agrobacterium strain harboring pPTN249, pPTN270, pPTN254, and pSIS-GFP respectively (all the vectors contain the aphA selectable gene driven by enhanced 35S promoter and a target gene controlled by ubi promoter or e35S promoter), AB medium for Agrobacterium activate culture, WCC medium for co-culture, were used in this study. The embryos with 4 days of pre-culture were transferred onto selection medium with 10mg/L geneticin, 50mg/L ticarcillin, 50mg/L vancomycin, and 50mg/L cefotaxine after 30 minutes of infection and 2 days of co-cultivation with Agrobacterium. Followed callus production, shoot regeneration on selection medium, 114 resistant plantlets were obtained from 10 transformation experiments of four genotypes. By nptll eLISA (nptII enzyme assay), PCR, Southern blot and leaf bleach, 29 positive plants were identified from two genotypes of Bobwhite and Yangmai 10, with an average transformation efficiency of 0.82%. The result tested by Southern blot also showed that the transgenic plants with single- copy integration of target gene took 65.52% among total positive plants. The eLISA value of transgenic plant was also related to the copies of alien DNA integrating into wheat chromosomes, the transgenic plants with single copy integration giving higher eLISA value than the ones with 2 or 3 copies integration.

Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of Sutherlandia montana e. Phillips & R.A. Dyer leaf extracts using the in vitro ***: The antioxidant activities of aqueous, decoction, ethanol and hydro-ethanol extracts of the plant were determined using seven different assays; the antidiabetic potential was evaluated through the inhibition of key carbohydrate hydrolysing enzymes(aamylase and a-glucosidase), while the modes of the enzymes inhibition were assessed using enzyme kinetic ***: The ethanol extract exhibited the best scavenging activity(IC_(50): 0.47, 0.36,0.20, 0.29 and 0.01 mg/m L) against the tested radicals like 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl,2, 20-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), nitric oxide, hydroxyl and superoxide anion, respectively. It also showed the best reducing power efficiency when compared with the standard(silymarin), while the decoction extract displayed the strongest metal chelating potential(IC_(50): 0.71 mg/m L). The ethanol(IC_(50): 5.52 mg/m L)and decoction(IC_(50): 0.05 mg/m L) extracts exhibited mild and strong inhibitory effects on the specific activities of a-amylase and a-glucosidase respectively, through an uncompetitive and non-competitive mode of ***: The observed properties might be linked to the presence of active principles as shown by the results of the phytochemical analyses of the extracts. This research has validated the folkloric application of Sutherlandia montana as a potential antidiabetic agent, which is evident from the inhibition of specific activities of key enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism.

The response of stromatolites to seismic shocks： tomboliths from the Palaeoproterozoic Chaibasa Formation, e India

It is demonstrated here for the first time how Palaeoproterozoic stromatolites survived seismic disturbance of their substrate. The stromatolites under study could have been cyanobacteria or any other photo-autotrophic microbes, which formed mats that covered a substrate of very fine-grained sandstones and mudstones of the Chaibasa Fm. in eastern India. The sediments represent a shelf environment. The local abundance of the stromatotites suggests that the tow-energy environment formed a suitable habitat. The common phases of tectonic quiescence were, however, occasionally interrupted by seismic shocks. These were sufficiently strong to deform the mat layers, the tower parts of which might already have been （semi-） consolidated. The mats became partly folded, partly faulted, and already consolidated parts of the stromatotite layers broke off. This can be deduced from the angular shapes of part of the broken-off fragments. It appears, however, that part of these fragments were stilt sufficiently soft to become rounded and deformed by rotting over the seafloor, probably under the influence of tidal currents. When come to rest, these fragments served as a new substrate for new generations of the microorganisms. These micro-organisms thus survived by continued growth on the reworked fragments and built up new stromatolites that may show an ‘angular disconformity＇ with the stromatotites of their substrate. It thus is shown that stromatotites have an adequate response to a sudden disturbance of their habitat, and that they survive earthquakes by colonization of broken-off fragments. We call the ‘healed＇ fragments ‘tombotiths＇（tumbled stones）.
