Spatial variability of soil organic carbon stock in an olive orchard at catchment scale in Southern Spain

Orchards have a high potential for carbon ***,little research is available on the spatial variability at catchment scale and on the difference between the tree area and the *** analyzed theik spatial variability of soil organic carbon stock,SOCstock at 90 cm depth in an 8-ha catchment in Southern Spain with olives on a vertic *** showed higher soil organic carbon concentration,SOC,in the tree area as compared to the lane up to 60 cm depth,but its impact on SOCstock was negligible since it was compensated by the higher soil bulk density in the *** at different depths was correlated with that in the top 0-5 *** overall SOCstock of the orchard was 4.14 kg m^(-2),ranging between 1.8 and 6.0 kg m^(-2).This SOCstock is in the mid-lower range of values reported for olive orchards,measured at smaller scale,and similar to those other intensive field crops and agroforestry under comparable rainfall *** spatial variability in SOCstock was correlated to several geomorphological variables:elevation,cumulative upstream area,topographic wetness index,sediment transport index,and tillage *** in SOC and SOCstock are driven by the sediment redis-tribution downslope,mainly by tillage erosion,and higher soil water availability in lower areas allowing higher biomass *** topographic indexes and the correlation between SOC in the topsoil and SOCstock up to 90 cm should be further explored in other typology of olive orchards for facilitating the mapping of SOC_(stock).

Towards Fully Secure 5G Ultra-Low Latency Communications: A Cost-Security Functions Analysis

Future components to enhance the basic,native security of 5G networks are either complex mechanisms whose impact in the requiring 5G communications are not considered,or lightweight solutions adapted to ultrareliable low-latency communications(URLLC)but whose security properties remain under *** different 5G network slices may have different requirements,in general,both visions seem to fall short at provisioning secure URLLC in the *** this work we address this challenge,by introducing cost-security functions as a method to evaluate the performance and adequacy of most developed and employed non-native enhanced security mechanisms in 5G *** categorize those new security components into different groups according to their purpose and deployment *** propose to analyze them in the context of existing 5G architectures using two different ***,using model checking techniques,we will evaluate the probability of an attacker to be successful against each security ***,using analytical models,we will analyze the impact of these security mechanisms in terms of delay,throughput consumption,and ***,we will combine both approaches using stochastic cost-security functions and the PRISM model checker to create a global *** results are first evidence of how a 5G network that covers and strengthened all security areas through enhanced,dedicated non-native mechanisms could only guarantee secure URLLC with a probability of∼55%.

Background and aim In-stent restenosis(ISR)belongs to an infrequent but potentially serious complication after carotid angioplasty and stenting in patients with severe carotid *** of these patients might be contraindicated to repeat percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with or without stenting(rePTA/S).The purpose of the study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of carotid endarterectomy with stent removal(CEASR)and rePTA/S in patients with carotid *** Consecutive patients with carotid ISR(≥80%)were randomly allocated to the CEASR or rePTA/S *** incidence of restenosis after intervention,stroke,transient ischaemic attack myocardial infarction and death 30 days and 1 year after intervention and restenosis 1 year after intervention between patients in CEASR and rePTA/S groups were statistically *** A total of 31 patients were included in the study;14 patients(9 males;mean age 66.3±6.6 years)were allocated to CEASR and 17 patients(10 males;mean age 68.8±5.6 years)to the rePTA/S *** implanted stent in carotid restenosis was successfully removed in all patients in the CEASR *** clinical vascular event was recorded periproceduraly,30 days and 1 year after intervention in both *** one patient in the CEASR group had asymptomatic occlusion of the intervened carotid artery within 30 days and one patient died in the rePTA/S group within 1 year after *** after intervention was significantly greater in the rePTA/S group(mean 20.9%)than in the CEASR group(mean 0%,p=0.04),but all stenoses werencidence of 1-year restenosis that was≥70%did not differ between the rePTA/S and CEASR groups(4 vs 1 patient;p=0.233).Conclusion CEASR seems to be effective and save procedures for patients with carotid ISR and might be considered as a treatment option.

Following new Philanthropy by network Ethnography:How Did the Varkey Foundation Land and Expand in Latin America?

Participatory Mapping and Visualization of Local Knowledge:An Example from Eberbach, Germany

A rise in the number of flood-affected people and areas has increased the interest in new methods and concepts that account for this *** are integrated into disaster risk reduction processes through participatory approaches and can provide valuable up-to-date local *** a field study in Eberbach(Baden–Wuerttemberg,Germany)sketch maps and questionnaires were used to capture local knowledge about *** on a previous study on urban flooding in Santiago de Chile,the tools were adapted and applied to river flooding in the city of Eberbach,which is regularly flooded by the neckar River,a major river in southwest *** empirical database of the study comprises 40 participants in the study area and 40 in a control *** of the participants in each group are residents and half are *** sampling was used,and the questionnaires aimed to gather demographic information and explore what factors,such as property,influence the risk perception of the study *** results show that residents identify a larger spatial area as at risk than pedestrians,and owning property leads to higher risk *** flood type influenced the choice of the base maps for the sketch *** river flooding,one map with an overview of the area was sufficient,while for urban flooding a second map with more details of the area also enables the marking of small *** information gathered can complement authoritative data such as from flood *** participatory approach also increases the communication and trust between local governments,researchers,and citizens.

A Proposal for the Automatic Computation of Envelopes of Families of Plane Curves

The idea of envelope of a family of plane curves is an elementary notion in differential geometry. As such, its implementation in dynamic geometry environments is quite universal(Cabri,The Geometer's Sketchpad, Cinderella, Geo Gebra,...). nevertheless, most of these programs return,when computing certain envelopes, both some spurious solutions and the curves that truly ?t in the intuitive de?nition of envelope. The precise distinction between spurious and genuine parts has not been made before: This paper proposes such distinction in an algorithmic way, ready for its implementation in interactive geometry systems, allowing a ?ner classi?cation of the different parts resulting from the current, advanced approach to envelope computation and, thus, yielding a more precise output, free from extraneous components.

Fossil cephalopods are frequently encrusted by epibionts;however,determining whether encrustation occurred prior to or post-mortem to the host,and whether the final environment of deposition corresponds to the habitat of encrustation is *** present paper describes cirripede epibionts,their calcareous bases and their attachment scars on 6 post-mortem shells of nautilus macromphalus,collected from deep water off new Cale*** cirripedes have left both cemented calcareous bases of Hexelasma and scars associated with bioerosion and discoloration produced by verrucomorph *** cirripedes included a Metaverruca recta,with articulated opercular plates and organic tissue(on a shell that had been exposed on the sea floor for at least 150 years),and specimens of Hexelasma velutinum,one of which was partly attached to an internal surface of a *** disposition of verrucomorphs indicates that most nautilus shells were colonized post-mortem rather than during a floating ***,as cirripedes are known to have colonized living nautilus,some Hexelasma,preserved only as calcareous eroded bases,may represent specimens that settled on a living *** degree of bioerosion and discoloration induced by verrucomorph barnacles varies according to the surface preservation of nautilus shells,with deeper and discolored traces preserved on old and degraded *** made by verrucomorphs described here are ellipsoidal and a new ichnotaxon,Anellusichnus ellipticus,is proposed to accommodate ***,verrucomorphs and other cirripede taxa with membranous bases that were attached to pristine shells may not leave any substantial scars,and,thus,will be difficult to detect in the fossil record.

Correlation between MEG and BOLD fMRI signals induced by visual flicker stimuli

The goal of this work was to investigate how the MEG signal amplitude correlates with that of BOLD fMRI. To investigate the correlation between fMRI and macroscopic electrical activity, BOLD fMRI and MEG was performed on the same subjects (n=5). A visual flicker stimulus of varying temporal frequency was used to elicit neural responses in early visual areas. A strong similarity was observed in frequency tuning curves between both modalities. Although, averaged over subjects, the BOLD tuning curve was somewhat broader than MEG, both BOLD and MEG had maxima at a flicker frequency of 10 Hz. Also, we measured the first and second harmonic components as the stimuli frequency by MEG. In the low stimuli frequency (less than 6 Hz), the second harmonic has comparable amplitude with the first harmonic, which implies that neural frequency response is nonlinear and has more nonlinear components in low frequency than in high frequency.

We report on an experiment performed at the FLASH2 free-electron laser(FEL)aimed at producing warm dense matter via soft x-ray isochoric *** the experiment,we focus on study of the ions emitted during the soft x-ray ablation process using time-of-flight electron multipliers and a shifted Maxwell–Boltzmann velocity distribution *** find that most emitted ions are thermal,but that some impurities chemisorbed on the target surface,such as protons,are accelerated by the electrostatic field created in the plasma by escaped *** morphology of the complex crater structure indicates the presence of several ion groups with varying *** find that the ion sound velocity is controlled by the ion temperature and show how the ion yield depends on the FEL radiation attenuation length in different materials.

Dehydration melting of metasupracrustal rocks at mid-to deep-crustal levels can generate water undersaturated granitic *** this study,we evaluate the potential of~1.89–1.88 Ga metasupracrustal rocks of the Precambrian of southern Finland as source rocks for the 1.86–1.79 Ga late-orogenic leucogranites in the region,using the Rhyolite-MELTS *** close in composition to leucogranite is produced over a range of realistic pressures(5 to 8 kbar)and temperatures(800 to 850℃),at 20%–30%of partial melting,allowing separation of melt from unmelted *** solid residue is a dry,enderbitic to charnoenderbitic ganulite depleted in incompatible components,and will only yield further melt above 1000–1050℃,when rapidly increasing fractions of increasingly calcic(granodioritic to tonalitic)melts are *** solid residue after melt extraction is incapable of producing syenogranitic magmas similar to the Mid-Proterozoic,A-type rapakivi granites on further *** granitic fraction of the syenogranitic rapakivi complexes must thus have been formed by a different chain of processes,involving mantle-derived mafic melts and melts from crustal rock types not conditioned by the preceding late-orogenic Svecofennian anatexis.
