Long-term prognostic impact of circulating tumour cells in gastric cancer patients

AIM To analyse the long-term prognostic impact of circulating tumour cells(CTCs) in gastric cancer patients who underwent surgery. METHODS A 7.5-m L peripheral vein blood sample was obtained from each patient with treatment-negative gastric adenocarcinoma before surgery. OBP-401, a telomerasespecific, replication-selective, oncolytic adenoviral agent carrying the green fluorescent protein gene, was used to label CTCs. Correlations between the number of CTCs and clinical end points were evaluated. RESULTS The median follow-up period of the surviving patients with gastric cancer was 60 mo. The CTC number tended to increase concomitantly with disease progression. The overall survival of patients with more than five CTCs in 7.5-m L of peripheral blood was lower than that of patients with five or less CTCs, although the difference was not significant(P = 0.183). A significant difference in relapse-free survival was found between patients with more than five and those with five or less CTCs(P = 0.034).CONCLUSION A lower number of CTCs was correlated with higher relapse-free survival rates in patients. Detection of CTCs using OBP-401 may be useful for predicting prognosis in gastric cancer.

A new application field of plasma spraying technique to environmental depollution

To expand the application of plasma spraying technique, TiO2 coatings were prepared using agglomerated anatase TiO2 powder to solve the environmental problems. The composition and photocatalytic activity of plasma sprayed TiO2 coatings were investigated systematically. The content of anatase TiO2 in the sprayed coatings was approximate to 7%- 15%, which was influenced by the melting state of TiO2 powder in plasma spraying process. The surface of sprayed coating was very rough and the arithmetical mean deviation of the surface profiles (Ra) was in the range of 5.7 - 8.8 μm. Under lower arc current, the surface of the coating became rougher. The anatase to rutile phase transformation temperature of agglomerated anatase TiO2 powder was approximate to 1 173 K. The TiO2 coating sprayed under the arc current of 400 A had good photocatalytic activity for the relative high content of anatase phase in it. It is concluded that the application of plasma spraying technique to environmental field has been developed.

Decentralized load frequency control for two-area interconnected power system

This paper proposes a decentralized output feedback control scheme applied to two-area interconnected power system. The controller synthesis problem is formulated as the scaled H∞control problem and a new LMI-based algorithm is proposed to compute the decentralized controller. The proposed controller provides robustness with regard to parametric uncertainties and also attenuates bounded exogenous disturbances in the sense of L2-gain. Simulation results clearly show the effectiveness of developed decentralized output feedback control scheme.

Catalytic Conversion of Methanol by Oxidative Dehydrogenation

This study investigates the effects of addition of oxygen on the oxidative dehydrogenation （ODH） of methanol when a fluorotetrasilicic mica ion-exchanged with palladium （Pd2^＋-TSM） was used as the catalyst. The reaction proceeded at a very low temperature in the presence of oxygen, and HCOOCH3 was obtained at high selectivity. By calculating the equilibrium conversion, it has been shown that substantial ODH took place for HCOOCH3 production. Consequently, this reaction would make dehydrogenation the dominant reaction at equilibrium. Not all the H dissociated from CH3OH was converted to H20 by oxidation. It has been shown that the H2O was not produced from oxidative dehydrogenation by the direct reaction of CH3OH and O2 when an attempt was made to carry out oxidative dehydrogenation using an isotope oxygen trace method in the gas phase. Therefore, when CHaOH was converted to CO2 and dehydrogenated to HCOOCH3, the C-O bonds were not dissociated.

Clinical significance of molecular diagnosis for gastric cancer lymph node micrometastasis

Advances in molecular diagnostic tools have allowed the identification of lymph node micrometastasis(LNM),including isolated tumor cells,in cancer patients. While immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction have been used to identify LNM in patients with gastric cancer,the clinical significance of this finding remains unclear. Recently,minimally invasive treatments,such as endoscopic submucosal dissection and laparoscopic surgery,are widely performed to help improve postsurgical quality of life(QOL). However,it is important to maintain the balance between QOL and curability when making treatments decision for patients with gastric cancer. If minimally invasive surgery based on accurate intraoperative LNM diagnosis was established,it could be performed safely. Therefore,we reviewed the clinical significance of LNM detected by molecular techniques as an important target for treatment decision making with gastric cancer patients.

Flow Induced Acoustic Resonance in In-line Tube Banks

In the present paper the attention is focused on the relation between vortex shedding phenomena and acoustic resonance which occurred in the two-dimensional model of boiler. There were tube banks with in-line arrangement for small tube pitch ratio. We measured the sound pressure level, the phase delay of acoustic pressures, the spectrum of velocity fluctuation and the gap velocity. As a result, we found two peak frequencies of sound pressure level with different Strouhal numbers St, mainly about 0.26 and 0,52, The noise of St=0.26 was the resonance of transverse mode and St=0.52 was longitudinal mode. The vortex shedding of St=0.15 was generated inside the tube banks without acoustic resonance. As gap velocity increased, we observed that the peak level of spectrum was weak and broad-banded, The onset velocity of the acoustic resonance of longitudinal mode was lower than that of transverse mode.

Based on a systemic analysis for the globa1 burden of disease study from 1990 to 2016,the Global Burden of Diseases(GBD)2016 Alcohol Collaborators reported that alcohol use was a 1eading nisk factor for globa1 disease burden and caused substantial health ***,alcoholic dnink(wines and sakes)contains abundant nutrients,particularly fermentable amino acids denived from grapes and *** acid nutrition and metabolism is strongly associated with health and preventiom against various *** purpose of this study was to elucidate 40 kinds of free amino acid(FAA)profles in wines and *** addition,the present study also provided the contents of 5-aminolevulinic acid(5-AI A)involved in the vital functionality of *** were detected and analyzed by use of an automatic amino acid *** amino acid,branched chain amino acid and Fischer ratio were calculated for each ***1 FAAs showed significant differences between wines and *** abundantly contained almost all FAAs whereas wines had just a lttle content in some *** were rich in arginine,glycine,alanine,valine,glutamic acid and leucine,while wines were remarkably nich in proline(Pro).Wines showed increased FAA levels in 6 kinds of variables(4-hydroxyproline,3-methy1 histidine,B-alanine,a-aminobutyric acid,Pro and a.-aminoadipic acid).In functionally characteristic FAAs,both wines and sakes were considerably abundant in y aminobutynic acid and 5-AI A The total amount of aromatic amino acid and branched chain amino acid were markedly higher in sakes than in *** results revealed that there were the apparent different characteristics in FAA profiles between wines and *** difference resulted from fermentation process in wines(single fermentation)and sakes(paralle1 double fermentation).Forty kinds of FAA profiles are more usefu1 in investigating characteristics of the taste of wines and *** future,detailed FAA analysis has the potential to fi
